MONTIE Report post Posted March 28, 2010 We are planning a trip to the Southwest and our first stop would be Albuquerque, NM, I can't seem to find a Campground that I think would be what we would like. We like trees but can't seem to find any in a RV park. Can you give me some suggestions that would be convenient to Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Has anyone stayed Stagecoach Campground and Resort, Riorancho, NM? Thanks Montie
kingfr Report post Posted March 28, 2010 I stayed there several years ago. My memory says that it is fairly nice, but the sites are very close together. We generally stay at the KOA just off I40 in the east part of town. It is nice, but pricey. It is very convenient to where we want to be, however.
wolfe10 Report post Posted March 29, 2010 Montie, Are you a member of any CG group such as Passport? Let us know what discounts you have available-- many of us were just in Albuquerque for the FMCA Convention last week and have first hand information on some of them. Also, is there a particular area of Albuquerque that you want to be in/things you are interested in doing there? Lastly, what time of year is your trip-- shade is more important in the summer (but as you are right at a mile high it does cool off at night). Brett
MONTIE Report post Posted March 29, 2010 Thanks for the information, we will be leaving Tennessee about April 28, that will put us in Albuquerque around May 1, I am sure that shade is not that important at that altitude. But when I looked at the pictures all of them looked like gravel parking lots, being from a green state I just wanted trees I guess.
Guest BillAdams Report post Posted March 29, 2010 Trees are not a major part of the SW landscape but dirt is! That's not a bad thing just very different than the landscape you would be familiar with in Tennessee. The forest's out here might not have a tree at all (but lots of tall cactus). Welcome to the desert. We are currently at the Isleta RV Part S. of Albuquerque as it is very convenient to the immediate Albuq. area. There is also a light rail stop (Rail Runner) here and it makes an easy day trip to Santa Fe if you don't want to make the drive. Many of the other campgrounds are way out of town. The one in town is sooooo crowded! One of our favorite stops is to dry camp at the Sandia Casino which is just about across the street from the Balloon museum and grounds. RVers are welcome and during busy times like the Balloon Fiesta they even bring out a dumpster for your trash.
MONTIE Report post Posted April 12, 2010 Well I have looked all over NM to find the right spot, to start we are staying in a place close to White Sands up in the mountains, got all hook up. Circle Cross RV, Timberton, NM. Has anyone stayed there before, it seems there is a look of outdoors stuff with wildlife, close to the caverns. Up in the mountains where it is suppose to be cool. Then on to Albuquerque. If you have been in the SE part of NM I am sure there are places that have things that you just don't want to miss, suggestions also Albuquerque
beggert1@comcast.net Report post Posted April 19, 2010 If you are planning on seeing Santa Fe, you will want to camp there for several days. Santa Fe has so many attractions...history, museums, art, architecture, fabulous food, that just a day-trip from Albuquerque won't do! We stayed at an RV park just south of Santa Fe called Santa Fe Skies RV Resort. We had beautiful red/purple sunsets and views of the night-lights of Santa Fe. You can't walk into Santa Fe from there, so hopefully you'll have a toad. I'm told the RV parks in town are very tight and crowded, although I haven't seen them. Being from Denver, we've spent lots of time in Santa Fe; there are not a lot of trees except on the town square, but the desert landscape is quite lovely. StellersJay Report post Posted April 20, 2010 Montie, check out Enchanted Trails. We have not stayed there, but have read good reviews. It is a Passport America park and is on the west side of Albuquerque and is close to Old Town. It is on our list of parks to check out the next time we are in the area. http://www.enchantedtrails.com/ Sam
