dcduhe Report post Posted February 2, 2009 We are about to pick up our new coach in Las Vegas we have not been out west and we are driving back to Louisiana, we would like to stop and see the grand canyon, can anyone suggest a nice place to stay, we will not have a tow vehicle on this trip so it has to be simple. I have never gone in the winter due to the altitude around 7000 feet at South Rim. We stay a Canyon Gateway RV Park in Williams, it is to the left at the first exit off I40. Their phone number is 928-635-2718, I would call and check weather and temperature. The Grand Canyon Railroad is near the park and is a memorable trip to the canyon on a steam engine. Guest Wayne77590 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 We stayed at Railside RV Ranch, in Williams AZ. We had the TOAD, but they do offer shuttle service. We had a friend that stayed at Grand Canyon RV Park in Williams and suggested we stay at Railside, so we did. it was good for us. Edited: They also have free pet sitting service. That is, they will let your furry one out and they will also feed them at the proper time. (At least while we were there) p.p.s. There is also a CG close to the South Rim entrance. Don't know if it is State, National, or Private, or what the amenities are, but it looked like a good jumping off point to auto-tour the Grand Canyon. sayhello Report post Posted February 6, 2009 We stayed in the park at Trailer village in Feb last year. No driving back and forth to other sites. This is a great place to stay in the park if you are going to stay several days and enjoy the canyon. The weather was cold and the air was clear this time of year. We have visited the park at other times of the year and the views were somewhat smoggy from the west cost. We stayed in a 32 ft RV with a TOAD. Walk the rim trail and enjoy the views. hdrecktrah Report post Posted February 6, 2009 Grand Canyon is about 60 miles north of Williams. If you stay in Williams and take the train to the Canyon you will arrive at the Canyon around noon. Then the train leaves to go back to Williams at about 3 PM. Unless you stay in a hotel at the Canyon overnight you do not have much time to see anything. If you take your rig to the Canyon you can stay in Trailer Village. Full hookups and 50 AMP electric. You are close to a shuttle bus stop there and can get around any where in Grand Canyon Village by shuttle. Don't short change your stop at Grand Canyon by not staying there at Trailer Village. The shuttle bus is on a short season right now. They travel the Village, Kaibab Trail-Yaki Point. Their full season starts March 1 and includes the west rim. Right now you can walk the trails on the west rim. Get on the web site www.nps.gov/grca. Click on 2009 South Rim Guide-Winter. You will find all the info you need in The Guide. tonyford Report post Posted February 12, 2009 Search in Williams Arizona. There is a private campground that is pretty nice and is close to the town of Williams. Don't remember if they have shuttle service into town. I highly recommend the train ride from Williams to the rim of the Canyon.
