2012 Class A Diesel inspection in New Jersey

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have what I am hoping is an easy question for the forum members to answer:

I have a 2012 Newmar Dutch Star that I recently purchased, it spent 2 months in the repair shop getting things updated and fixed (we didn't even get the plates and registration for 2 months).

This is in New Jersey (South Jersey to be exact).

The repair place said to take the coach to any MVC inspection place for inspection.

I did this last Saturday, got all the way to the head of the line to be told that because the coach was earlier then 2014 it didn't need to be inspected.

Following the principle of verify the information, I found:

  • The coach does need to be inspected but there is very little information about where to go for this.
  • The coach does not need to be inspected.
  • The coach does not need to be inspected, but I have to keep an self inspection safety log every time I go out, but there are no log templates for this.
  • The new jersey MVC (and the diesel motor vehicle) websites don't give and definitive information and the links on the websites are broken.

So here is the question I have (that I hope someone can answer) who would be the best person or place to find out what I am required to do in terms of an inspection for my class A?

Thanks in advance for your time and help on this.

Dave Vickery

Dave,

Welcome to the Forum.

Since the local DMV is confused I would contact your State Representative. You may not get him or her in person but one of their staff will get you the answer. Be sure and get the answer in writing.

Hope you find the correct answer.  It's been over 60 years since I had a vehicle inspected in New Jersey.

Ask the repair place where they take their RVs for inspection.
