Great Website For Shorter Trips

Question

I found a site that is from the U.S. Department of Transportation that lists some short 200 + drives around the nation. It lists some places to stop and gives you the miles and camping areas (they are partial to the government parks): http://www.byways.org.

I have taken two of the trips and found the info in the book they offer (Free) to be dead-on.

We did the Idaho to Canada Loop and really saw some great sites and met some very nice people.

Try it -- the book is free and you will really enjoy it.

We use this web site for longer trips as well. When we want to take the scenic route, we'll check to see if any of these routes are close to our direction of travel. If so, we'll simply reroute to the more scenic road. I hate to travel the same road over and over. If I can find alternates, I'll give them a try just to see what can be seen along a different route. Sometimes we can link several of these routes together to give us a nice slow scenic look at the country.
