Ralph Report post Posted April 9, 2012 I have been told that installing a battery disconect switch would eliminate the need to pull fuse while towing for wheels down. Towing a 05 Malibu. Any info will be appreciated.
rossboyer Report post Posted April 9, 2012 Installing a battery disconnect switch would work, but you would have to open the hood to turn the battery on or off. Most auto supply stores have a small connector to add a circuit to the fuse panel. Two of those connected together, another fuse the same size as the one that needs to be pulled, and a small toggle switch can be used to turn the circuit on or off. The extra fuse is used to complete the circuit while maintaining the same safety. The switch can be mounted anywhere by extending the wires to a convenient inside location. wolfe10 Report post Posted April 9, 2012 Method of preventing battery discharge also depends on what toad brake you have. Many use the toad battery. If so, the proper solution is to run a charge line from coach to toad battery.
Guest BillAdams Report post Posted April 9, 2012 We have used a battery disconnect on our van for many years and the 10 seconds it takes to open the hood, open the knife switch and drop the hood makes the process very quick and easy. There does seem to be an issue with the engine "brain" after having no battery power for an extended period but it only means the van starts a little rough and requires a high idle for a few seconds to get back to normal.
