theknops Report post Posted June 25, 2012 For those of you who have visited Glacier National Park, what campgrounds would you recommend for a big rig with toad? Traveling with two parrots so would like at least 30 amp electric to keep them cool.
F266040 Report post Posted June 25, 2012 Too bad that you need electricity. We've always stayed at the NP Apgar campground on the west side at the bottom of Lake McDonald which is dry camping.
oscarpower Report post Posted September 19, 2012 We just stayed 4-5 days at St. Mary's Campground (East side) inside the Glacier Nat'l Pk and the place was very nice. But again, as mentioned above, it is dry camping.
tbutler Report post Posted September 19, 2012 We stayed at Johnson's Campground which is in St. Mary on the east side of Glacier. They have 30A electric at sites that look out over the valley. The sites are very narrow. We had to move to a different site than the one assigned by the office because the trees on that site didn't give us enough room to open our slides. The second site was much better, no trees and a better view. Generally when you are at this elevation and latitude you won't be worrying about keeping your birds cool, 30A should be all you would need.
srfridley Report post Posted September 20, 2012 Try Columbia Falls RV park in Columbia Falls, MT, It's about 6 or 7 miles from the park entrance, has large wide pull through's with 50amp service and a very friendly helpful staff. We stayed there last summer and really enjoyed the RV park and the area. It is also very convenient to restaurants and shopping in Columbia Falls.
wayne77590 Report post Posted September 22, 2012 X2 for Columbia Falls RV Park. We just left there about 4 weeks ago. I found the entrance about 16 or so miles from the RV Park, but a nice easy ride. When you get to the NP, go to the village and look around. If you go to the left, there is not much to see except some burned forest land. the road dead ends into a "T" about 12 miles up and the new road is unpaved and was a washboard when we were on it in the TOAD. We turned around about a half mile down and went back the other direction. Now that, toward the Lodge, is a great ride and great scenery. Have fun.
rickp Report post Posted September 27, 2012 Stayed at San-Suz-Ed right outside West Glacier earlier this year and it worked out fine. Run by a nice lady who knows the area well and also cooks a great breakfast. Cheers, rick p
crslls Report post Posted January 10, 2013 We are also looking for a CG around Glacier. It looks like Glacier RV park had the most votes or have you found something better. crslls
