aldebruijn Report post Posted February 25, 2015 I have a 1997 Toyota 4runner and would love to tow it 4 on the floor. Can it be modified even though it is a automatic and it is a 4wd.

dickandlois Report post Posted February 26, 2015 aldebruijn, Welcome to the FMCA forum! I just looked in the past PDF files on file for tow vehicles to see if your year was covered, but the oldest year on file is 1999. So like Jim mentioned you will need to refer to the owners manual or call Toyoda to see if they can offed some information. The older 4 wheel drive units with a manual transmission are often OK to tow 4 down. The automatic transmission models with a manual shifting transfer case, that disengages the transmission drive shaft at the transfer case might work, but you need to know if there is a lubrication or possible fluid pump issue when towing at highway speed and for extended periods of time.
