slowe Report post Posted October 13, 2015 I recently purchased a 2014 Jeep Patriot. I am currently using a Tow Dolly for my VW. Can I use the Tow Dolly for the Jeep? Can I 4 down with this car? Thanks Steve
rockylarson Report post Posted October 13, 2015 If you select the "MAIN SITE" link in the upper left corner of this page, then select "Motorhoming" a drop down menu will take you to "TOWING". Doesn't look promising. I chose a Liberty over the Patriot for that reason.
kingfr Report post Posted October 13, 2015 According to the FMCA towing guide, if it has an automatic transmission, then no towing 4 down. If it is 4wd, then you cannot tow using a dolly either manual or automatic. If it is a front wheel drive, you can probably use the dolly, but I would check with the owners guide (Not always accurate) and/or the manufacturer first. Don't bother with checking at a dealer, they never know anything about towing!
gulya Report post Posted October 13, 2015 I have been towing a 2011 and 2012 patriot auto trans on a tow dolly for three years now. Only caution is no steering wheel lock. I use a rubber tie down strap wrapped around bottom spoke and secured to driver seat frame. Patriot tows better than any other car I've towed. The '12 has been towed about 20k miles including up and down mountains.
slowe Report post Posted October 14, 2015 How do you not lock the steering wheel? With the ignition off the wheel is locked on the Patriot? When I tow my 2015 VW Beetle my ignition is off the car is in park and no parking brake. However the wheel is locked. Is this the same procedure with the Patriot? hermanmullins Report post Posted October 14, 2015 Slowe, Steering wheel locks have been an on and off situation for auto makers. Some had locks then removed them then put them back in. You never know from one year to the next whether they have or don't have a lock. Herman
gulya Report post Posted October 14, 2015 There is no steering wheel lock on a Patriot. Check it out at a car lot. Even with car in park and key removed you can turn steering wheel with great difficulty and wheels turn. I own two patriots both are the same.
