I replaced the ballast resistor 2 months ago. So this would leave the ignition module then. Are they all the same? Because i found one at AutoZone already.

Thank you guys! I replaced the ballast resistor 2 months ago. So there is a control module. This it what it feels like, losing the spark. It is either in the ignition or that module. I had 3 days in a row and nothing happened. Weird. AndyK

Hello, I have a 1976 Apollo with a Dodge 440 V8 engine. M500. With a thermoquad carburator. I have replaced the fuel filter with a clear one, to see if maybe dirt glogs it up. Nothing, fuel is clean. Fuses are good and it seems it is an electric problem. It feels like someone flips a switch and it shuts off. I replaced the distributor cap, coil, spark plugs and wires last time i was here asking the forum for help. It was running nice, till a few weeks ago... AndyK

Hello Forum I'm back with another question.... My 1976 Apollo motorhome engine keeps shutting off out of a sudden while driving. But it does not feel like a starving for gasoline stalling, more like turning the ignition key off. When i stop and crank engine, it comes on right away again. If it would be gasoline related, i would have to crank way more. There are days when it doesn't happen at all. And today it happened twice within a few yards. Otherwise the engine runs great and smooth. My question, is there a relay or module that could cause that? I checked all fuses and connections. Thank you in advance! AndyK

Gentlemen, everything is working fine now, thanks to your support!!!! I hooked up the fuel line and after a few cranks the engine started right up! What a relief! I am so glad I started this thread and reached out! You guys were a tremendous help and I have learned a lot, which I appreciate. I guess this concludes our little adventure and I surely hope that this thread will help others in need! If I hear of someone needing assistance, guess where I will send him... If any of you ever need any help in regards to fitness and health (nutrition, minerals, working out, fitness equipment, vitamins or virus killers) I will be glad to help out!! Gentlemen, here is the long awaited update on my situation. I made it run. I replaced the distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs and coil. I disconnected the fuel line and caught the gas from the line in a jar. I cranked the engine and sprayed carb cleaner in the carburator, like suggested above. It came right on. So now I will further investigate this chrome thing in the picture below. It says pump - carb - gage on it. It also has a vacuum hose on top. Where it says "gage" is a bolt screws in. I am wondering. Any ideas? For now a Huge THANK YOU to all of you! I took all the advice given, even if I wasn't replying to all of them ( I had to work a little 🙂). More to come... Greetings Andy

Thank you very much for your offer. I will try the new plugs, the problem is surely in the carb since one cylinder was heavily flooded! If it fails again, I will surely give you a call!! Thank you.

DickandLouis thank you for the tip! I got new spark plugs and new wires. I got all the spark plugs out and cranked the engine a few times to get the rest of the gasoline out. Seems like only one cylinder was heavily flooded. Next I will install the spark plugs and spray cleaner in that hole. I will let it sit for a while like you suggested, maybe even till tomorrow. I'm getting tired of this haha. Thank you.

I got outside took another spark plugs out and it was like summer at Niagara Falls!!! The gasoline just poured out of that cylinder! So I am of to buy new plugs and will return later. Thank you.

Thank you so much guys! I quit for today and will continue tomorrow. This engine does have an upgrade under the distributor cap. It has magnetic a point system. Nice. When I turn the ignition key and it turns a couple times, I can see the fuel on top of the carburator. I think that's where the problem lies, flooding! Like I said, I will continue tomorrow and wish guy guys a pleasant evening! Thank you very much! Andy

Hello, I had it sit for hours before starting it again. I am in California and it is warm here today. The fuel regulator was leaking so I fixed the hoses and tightened the screws on it. I don't apply any throttle to it and it still smells like a lot of gas after only 2-3 cranks. Even though it getting too much gas, it should still attempt to stutter a bit but nothing.

Thank for the continued input, I really appreciate it!! I changed the resistor and still the same. I have a good spark from the coil, which totally confuses me. Carburator smells like gas when I crank a few times. Is it possible for the carburator to get too much gas? And I think (see pictures above) I have a regulator in the fuel line too. That maybe broken and supplies too much gas? But it would at least try to come on when I crank.
