  1. Chollen, Welcome to the FMCA Forum!

The Tach and speedo gauges might need to be cleaned and lubricated(Oil should be a very good quality clock oil) - WORK Very carefully - a little like working on an old clock !!!!!!! Dirt around the dial shaft and most lickly a build up of some rust from condensation. Might think of the project as restoring a classic car.

Information on the older coach wiring is difficult to find, but I do have some information. Regarding the dash issues and the age of the coach. I would check and Clean all the Ground connections. Also any and all wiring harness connections should be checked and cleaned with CRC and checked for corrosion in the connectors and for corrosion / oxidation of the area of the crimped terminals . Kind of a long process, but the rewards could be very gratifying.

Things did not change as fast years ago, so I hope this information helps pin down some of your issues.

  2. Nancy, this is the Operators manual for the Microquiet 4000 series. 16.8mb PDF file

The fact that the generator runs when cool and has an issue when it gets into the 90 degree range says volumes about the unit shutting down when it is hot. So make sure that the air flow is not restricted and run a low load on it in the middle of the day.  Also keeping the Roof AV unit(s) clean and the Evaporator coils clean. The Evaporators are made of Aluminium - So use Extreme Simple Green mixed at 1 part soup to 13 parts of water in a spray bottle to clean the evaporator with the plastic weather cover removed. So you can clean bothe sides of the evaporator well.

Opening the Generator compartment door might help keep it cooler also.

You should be able to order a gallon from Walmart Special order or from Grainger  Supply company.   https://www.grainger.com/ Should be a location near you also. Store pickup with no shipping.

  3. Nan, A 36 code is often related to fuel issues. How much fuel in the gas tank? If below around 1/4 tank -the level might be below the fuel pickup point, but the pickup point could be in the 3/8 tank range.

This is intentional so one can get the coach to a gas station. Chassis engine has priority when it comes to fuel.

Check fuel filters, Air filter, proper oil level, Fuel pump is running. The fact that it runs for around 10 min. could also indicate a low coolant level and the electronics control board is over heating and that could also be turning off the generator. Sometimes that board will offer up a 36 code also.

This is some information on the QG-4000 unit.

There is also a Microquiet 4000 series.

  4. Roger,  Been working on the stabilize bushings and they are covered in the same area of the Chassis manual as tires.

Interesting statement regarding Bias ply and Radial tires. The manual does caution using bias ply and radials on the same axle.

Statement- If both radial and bias ply tires are used, better handling  is usually obtained by using the bias tires on the front axle.

Radial ply tires permit greater loads per tire , BUT also require higher inflation. They can also cause higher stresses on the rims and wheels then then bias ply tires.

    Your thoughts ? Rich.

  5. MT. There are a number of items that come with software controlled systems. The ECM and other items are software controlled systems. Even the lighting controls can be turned on and off by software style control systems.

Many of the systems require the presents of 12 volts, so they will wake up when you press the fob button to enter the coach and the list goes on and on.

If all the power is remover from the ECM, the coach will need to travel like 100 miles before it will pass an emission test.

A 120 volt 20 amp circuit will keep the batteries charged - even a properly sized solar panel system will keep the 12 volt systems at the proper charge.

Even the Inverter needs 12 volts to wake up even if its off, no power to it and one needs to reprogram many of the settings needed to run and charge the batteries in the coach.

    Rich.

  6. Start by checking the fluid level - when the coach is level with the jacks retracted. Over full? Maybe some air in the system - bubbles can cause the fluid ti spit.

My bad ! By the way welcome to the FMCA Forum! Just got parked at home after returning from the warm South. Way to cold up North yet !!!  LOL

Had a so called RV tech replace the a/c units on my 2006 American Coach. After 4 attempts to make everything work the last thing that doesn’t work is the A G S for the air conditioners. While I was at Perry I talked to the Dometic people and they basically told me the installer doesn’t know what he’s doing and I need another module to make the gen start work. Can anybody tell me what the module is.

What system is installed in the Coach? Magnum or Xantex ?

  8. Just ran into an interesting issue - Television stations have there own frequency.

When we tune to different stations there tends to be an interaction between  different lights and television channels. Found this by just turning off one while a tempting to watch different stations and turning LED on and off while still watching one channel and expanding out to other channels.

Need to see if they need suppliers to build in frequency filters or place them in the existing fixtures. A lot of spectrum research.

Anyone else notice this issue - or have noticed issues when different lights are on?

I have a built in surge protector in my 2003 Winny Journey DL.  When I try to run just 30 amp through it starts to time itself but never lets the power go through.  When I plug in 50 amp it takes a long time to get through the delay but it will finally allow shore power to go through.  Anyone have any ideas.  Is the surge protector bad?  Help.

Rgriff, Welcome to the FMCA Forum?

This link will get all the info. on model you have. Does the slide issue change when you run the generator>

The Wiring for the slide control sw at the dash is pictured, but theslide motor control module and wiring looks to be missing.

What is the condition and age of the batteries?

I’m using my class A 40 ft diesel to live in this winter in Colorado. What I just started experiencing after 6 mo. of living in coach is when both furnaces kick on the lights start flickering and furnace fan slows down considerable usually causing the O2 sensor to alarm. This is happens when plugged into 50 amp or 120 volt. Help!

What model and year coach do you have? 40 foot what, model year and model?

    Rich.

  12. TLizzie, With the year coach you have do you have a mechanical shift - instead of a touch shift?

Some Starter Wiring Info. from a 2001 Coach.

Note added 3/26/18. The starter relay power is supplied from a relay powered by the the VIM - this relay coil power is supplied from ECM  when the ignition key is turned on. So if there is no power out on pin 7 - the fault could be in the ECM Module or there is no power due to the leveling system safety lockout circuit.

    **** And Lois,

Yes sir, the current unit is a 2000 watt. I would like to upgrade to the 2800 PSW. You think the best choice is stay with Magnum? I wonder if my remote will be compatible with the 2800?

The 2800  Should work fine.  Check out this link to look for remote control compatability between inverters and the software.

You might need to speak to a tech to clear up any software issues or to get the proper version downed load. Just tell them that you want to up grade from the 2000 to the PSW 2800.

You might need to increase the 12 volt supply fuse size - because of the increase in current demand!

Have a 2015 Bounder 35 K.  It has a small solar panel on top of one of the A/C units on Top Side of the coach.  It is my understanding that this panel is wired to provide a trickle type charge to those batteries.  My question is, how do I know that is what is happening?  How can I tell if that little bit of power is flowing to the batteries?

There is a red LED installed into the inside plastic cover in many cases. When the LED is powered - it stands out.(glows a bright red) The solar panels do get damaged, the 2 pin connectors can get unplugged, the wiring can get disconnected or damaged if the AC unit has been worked on and if the 3 Amp fuse)located in the BCC unit has blowen . The LED will not turn on.

Thanks to all who responded. I was getting power to the motor, but only 4 volts, it seems. I needed a new controller board. Less than a new motor now Lippert owns Power Gear.

John, For what it is worth, the low voltage could be caused by a cold solder joint.  This is a picture of a slide control board - where the white connector (in this case) connects to the board - very off ten there a crack in the solder around the pin(s) on the back side of the board. Do you know of a person that repairs electronic boards?

I think they are power gear, I live in Australia and have it in storage at Newburgh at the moment, will be coming over in May for 3 month. I plan on pulling it out myself and taking it to a hydraulic repair shop. will check yellow pages.

    Thanks Keith

Keith, If the jacks are made by Power Gear, there are small grease fittings at the bottom of the hydraulic cylinders. When the rams are extended they can be easier to see. Power gear jacks require the seals to be greased every 30 cycles with WHITE lithium GREASE ONLY. 2 squirts only in each fitting clears up the small leaks.

  17. Chadmgorman, The 2012 is the series number! is it a 2000 or 2800 watt model? Should you go from a 2000 to a 2800, you might consider up grading the 12 volt battery's if you go to the 2800.

A 2000 will power a microwave, but with a house style refrigerator a 2800 Pure sine wave might be a better investment. They are much better for all electronic equipment!
