  1. Today I called the Pilot/Flying J corp office to question how the RV Plus card was to be used.  She gave me a long explanation, but the bottom line was this:

    -  At the RV pump(s): Used exactly like a credit card at any service station.

    -  At the big rig pumps:  Pull up and stop at an open pump, note the pump number, go inside, stand in line, tell clerk the pump number and approximately how many gallons of fuel you need...she'll run your card for that much...go outside pump fuel, go inside, stand in line, tell clerk you are finished and need to total actual fuel taken and a receipt, clerk runs card for correct amount, destroys first receipt used for the estimate, and gives you the new receipt, you leave.

I expressed my displeasure....since I can go to my friendly Wal Mart, scan my Visa (or Walmart Gift card for an extra discount), pump the fuel, take the receipt and leave....she just said that's the way it is.

So if anybody can swipe their RV Plus Card at the truck pumps, I'd sure like to know how you are doing it.

  2. You guys have to be kidding!  This entire operation sounds like work, serious work, you know, a big time J  O  B.  Have you forgotten how a J  O  B can crimp your style, restrict your travels, limit your free time, require to be some place rather than where you'd prefer to be....for hours, some times days, back to hiring the lousy unqualified high school drop out who will leave (or you will fire him) in less than 90 days,  working with obnoxious ill mannered customers who want everything but want to pay nothing, working weekends/holidays, trying to keep all the employees happy, having to explain to the D/W why you will miss the ...fill in the blank...due to the crisis at the office, and the beat goes on.

    I think I'll pass.🙂

  3. Sometime I believe we over think the RPM/engine temp/trans temp/gear, etc, issue. During our recent 3,500 mile trip out west, with several runs over the Continental Divide, I never touched the Allison....I just let it do it's thing.  As the engine got hot, it down shifted as required and automatically turned the fan on.  The down shifting kept the torque/HP where they needed to be for maximum efficiency.

  4. I drain the water and black/gray tanks for storage, the residue in there won't hurt anything.  The only problem I've had was when it was down in single digits the pull handles for the holding tanks froze.  I put a couple of lights there to thaw them out.  I do put a pair of 60 watt bulbs next to the water pump so it won't freeze.

Winter number eight Michigan style or in the more southern states?

Once winter gets in full swing around here in Wisconsin, 120w of heat would never keep a bay warm enough to prevent freezing temps unless it was insulated like a sealed cooler.

Not sure what the reason would be to avoid running the pink anti-freeze through the fresh-water side of the AH as the manual instructs? If the rest of the plumbing is done that way already, seems like a no-brainer.

Last winter was down to single digits, no problem with two 60 watt bulbs in a well insulated basement bay.  As far as running the pink A/F through the fresh water side of the house....I don't do that.  I put similar pairs of 60 watt bulbs through out the coach, any where there is the possibility of water freezing.  Haven't run any "pink stuff" in years.

... I stay away from Loves an TA only because I have to go inside and pre-pay. With PFJ I pull up, swipe card, fill up and drive away...

I stay away from Loves also.  However, during our recent 3,500 mile trip, the D/W still had to go inside the PFJ...and we have their card.  What's the secret to not having to go inside....are you using a regular Visa/MC?

    ....Five/Every three years?...

He did one at one year....found a big black precancerous polyp...then went to two years...then went to three years.  Last one I had he said come back in five years.  It's pretty bad when you know the pre-procedure nurses, and they recognize you!:(

....Last colonoscopy I did not take anything and I can tell you this - next dang time I will...

I guess...can't imagine a colonoscopy with nothing!  My doc likes to put me to sleep, and be sure I stay asleep for my C's.  My Dad died of colon cancer, so I had my ninth in March of this year.:(

  9. My set up (315s on the front and 295s on the rear) is OEM.  The reason is the front axle is 17k....the rears are 20k dually and 12k tag.  The dually axle is actually 25k, but the axle rating is based on the lowest rated component....thus the 20k rating.  I have a friend with an 08 Eagle, it came off the line and to him with the front axle over GAWR.  He swapped out the axle, at his expense.

I have room, tools and no tire. I’ll pick up one someday soon. I’m not going to carry it mounted. I’ll just pay a road service to hang it. I’ll keep my torque wrench onboard to make sure it’s torques properly. It’s rare to find a mobile service that will torque properly rather than just hammer it on.

When I  planned to swap out the tires on our first coach, I thought I'd keep the best tire as a spare.  However, we went with this Eagle before the last coach needed tires....the problem I have now is that there are 315s on the front and six 295s on the rear.  I really don't want to lug around two spares.

...I believe tge 295/80 is also only made by a select few tire manufacturers also. Which will hurt when on the side of the road...

True.  We spent five and a half hours on the side of the road because the emergency road service could not find a 295/80 tire.  He said "the truckers don't use them, so there are not many around."  He finally found one...for $800.:(
