....Five, Here is a better way. Rather than using the whole hose, use the dipstick as a guide on how long the hose needs to be. Remember you want to take the sample from the center of the oil.  You never want to run the hose in and have it hit the bottom of the pan. This can give you an contaminated/erroneous sample. second thing, the plastic tubing is a one use item. Never use the same tubing to do the engine and transmission you will get false readings. Don't use the tubing the next time you pull a engine sample as it may contaminate the results. You can get tubing at most hardware stores....

Good advice, I basically do what you suggest.  On one of my earlier samples, the hose they sent wasn't long enough, so I called and they sent me a roll of 50'.  When I first got it, I pulled the dip stick, measured it, then added 6" and now make my tubing that long.  JG's instructions are good, they hit the things you noted like don't take the sample from the bottom and only use the hose once.  I had a problem once with the tube not wanting to go smoothly through the opening.  So now, a few days before I'm going to take the sample, I cut off the length tube I need, put very light weights on each end with clothes pins and hang it over a door.  Since the tubing is rolled pretty tightly his straightens it out enough so the procedure is easier.

No I have not, and I'm not sure how to do that yet but it's just that it has been two years since last change and I wanted to upgrade to TES 668.

I use JG Lubricant Services in Houston.  The owner, Tom Johnson, is a retired Allison engineer.  With your initial purchase, you order a pump and instructions as to how to take a sample.  It's very simple, warm the trans fluid, attach a small container and a nine foot hose (both provided) to the pump, put the hose into the trans fluid and the pump draws the fluid into the container.  Put the container in a shipment bag (provided) and mail to the lab.  I've been doing this for two motor homes 11 years....you will get a very detailed explanation of your fluid, and a bottom line recommendation as to it's status.  If you have questions, call the lab.  Often as not, Tom will answer the phone.  Based on JG Lab's recommendations, I have not changed the fluid in either MH....also, for a MH, there is no real value in changing to TES 668.  They made it so it can be used in a wider selection  of transmissions.

Ordered 5 gals of the Castrol TranSynd 668 and got it delivered today, I also ordered the two filters which were delivered last week so hopefully next week I will be able to service the 3060 and that will be another check mark off my list.👍

Have you had the present trans fluid tested?  If it tests good, a change is not required.

....For really cold days the burner by itself will do the job. No need to run both continuously....

True, but why not run them together, and use some of the CG's electricity to help your burner that is using your diesel?  When we get to a CG, we turn on the electric, it stays on all the time, and turn on the burner as needed.

  5. Yesterday we went from Biloxi to N. Little Rock, fighting a very stiff head wind all the way.  We usually average around 7 MPG....yesterday the Silver Leaf was showing a lot of numbers in the 5 area.  The big diesel doesn't care....just gets a bit thirsty.  Took on 106 gallons of fuel at a Loves for $420...haven't seen what kind of discount my ESF card will give us.

  6. We don't have much information on which to base data we would provide.  We've had six RVs....two pulled by gas pick ups, a fifth wheel pulled by a diesel dually, a Class C gasser, and two Class A diesel pushers.  The only reason I would not get another DP, is when I get so old I would want to downsize.  What is your RVing experience, what RVs have you had in the past, what size are you looking to get?

Our bank allows a separate account. I created the account, populated it with money and use it exclusively for diesel fuel.  I can write checks on it if I wish to, or, I can transfer any amount to or from that account.   Most banks allow multiple accounts, just ask.  I use the bank draft from the fuel account for TSD.

    Same here, works fine.
