    :) We all have had not so pleasant visits to RV Parks. We all like to vent. Venting is good for the soul. However sometimes we jump before we think ( I am guilty of this more then once).

    Before we trash a Park or Resort we need to check out if we or the park is at fault. A good place to start is www.reparkreviews.com. See what other think about the Park or Resort. As for Cordele RV Park in Cordele, GA, the only negatives were that they didn't have Cable TV and not family friendly.

    That part could be up for question since one review spoke about the playground.

    Therefore we all need to see if it was ourselves or the Park that was the problem.

    Welcome to the FORUM.

    Towing a vehicle might affect mileage by less then 1/4 to 1/2 miles per gallon. Weight that against the cost of a rental for say 3 days. Most of your coast is up front. Tow Bar, Base Plates, Wiring the tow vehicle and a braking unit. If you already have a vehicle that can be towed 4 down just look for bars and plates to fit it. If you don't have such a vehicle then I might suggest that you look into trading for a vehicle you can tow and also use as a first or second family vehicle.

    Many vehicles can be towed 4 down (check the towing chart in this web site for year and make of vehicle :rolleyes) and most can be made to tow with pumps or drive shaft disconnects.

    As I said the mileage is not really the factor.

    Getting old is becoming a burden to me. Today I misplaced my cell phone.I forgot the number, so I started backtracking where I thought I'd been.I checked the motorhome, the car, the yard for forty five minutes. No luck. Finally I called my son on the house phone & got the number. I dialed the cell & behold, it was ringing in my pants pocket.I'm a little embarrased to share this, but it happened & now that I've found it I find it hilarious. :)

    But just think of all the thing you did find that you didn't know were lost. One of the really bad thing about auto dial is nobody can remember phone numbers any more.

    ahicks, Welcome to the forum.

    Using a toilet like you have in your home has several problems.

    1) tank holds 1.5 to 3 gallons of water and you use it all used each time you flush.

    2) water in tank will splash out when you are moving.

    Using a toilet made for an RV will use about a 2 to 3 pints of water per flush.

    Check how much fresh water the RV you are looking at holds and divide it by 1.5 and see how many flushes you have even before you have made coffee, washed dishes and or showered.

    The only problem I have besides replacing seals is how low the seat is.

    New Story.

    We were in San Antonio for a rally. Sunday morning we are all saying our good byes. I go to move in my slides. Back comes in fine. Front NOTHING. I tested every circuit in the coach checked every relay. Tested the switch.

    By now I am Very frustrated. I am telling all of our friends to go on, I've call for the RV man. Being frustrated I begin to put up all my tools, put everything back where it belongs and close all bay doors. The one under the slide didn't close the way I thought it should so I SLAMMED IT. Then I SLAMMED it again. I got back in the coach to wait. So just for kicks I try the slide again. In comes the slide. I called and canceled the service call. It's seems that there is a kill switch on the door to keep the slide from opening or closing and damaging the door if it is open. New lesson learned. Get mad and slam doors, it helps and sometimes solves the problem.

    To all that have read and responded to this post, THANK YOU.

    I have always gone out of my way to follow the rule, "If you do something wrong, I will tell you and If you do something GOOD, I will tell the world." This time I told the managers what was wrong and now I am telling the world.

    YES there are some great RV parks all over the place. Some big and some small but they all do what is necessary to make your visit pleasant.

    A few that I know:

    Shallow Creek, Gladewater, Texas. They can make Good BBQ

    Canton Civic Center, Canton, Texas (for rallies)

    Coffee Creek RV Resort, Santos, Texas. Great family.

    Hill Country RV Resort, New Braunfels, Texas

    KOA Durant, Durant, OK. Charlie will bend over backwards for you.

    Ceder Oaks RV Park, Grove, Oklahoma. A little dusty some times but nice park and people.

    We just had a rally at Admiralty RV resort. The park is very old. They had plenty of spaces but they were very narrow.

    The ladies at check-in were very nice.

    However, the manager was a total jerk. If you don't come into their registration area correctly they jump you and tell you that you must move your coach or they will not register you. One of our members drove the wrong direction in the park and was jumped on by the manager and then banned from the park for life.

    The manager's feelings are, if you don't like it lump it. Members of the Board of Directors for Lone Star Chapter decided that they are on our do-not-stay list. Our chapter paid the park close to $4,000 for the spaces. Now they will never get another penny from Lone Star.

    When asked who the owner of the park was, I was told "I'm the manager." I then said, "Who owned the park" and was told "the owner doesn't want to talk to you." If I was him I would not want guests talking to the owner, either.

    Enough said. Bad park.

    If I understand your post the Rubber Gasket that holds the window in the coach leaks. The double U rubber gasket has become hard and will not seal the window from leaking water into the coach.

    Measure the window and while you are camping look at other coaches to see if they have the same size window. Then check with the mfg. of their coach to see if they can still provide the rubber seal.

    In the mean time have you tried Clear Silicone completely around the window on the out side? You might check with companies that refurbish coaches where they may have removed your size window and still have the gasket.

    I have waxed my motorhome several times over the years with great results. The problem with waxing is it only last six months or less. A couple of years ago, I asked a local auto painter about spraying a clear coat paint over the gelcoat. The price was $1700.00. I haven't had it done and probably won't as my health is deteriorating fast. I have no idea how much longer I will be able to travel & camp. Medical expenses are, at this time, a higher priority than the exterior looks of my coach. :rolleyes:

    Sorry to hear of your health problems. I think the first part of your Forum handle is correct "Living". Keep on with your medical and your coach will wait for you. Good Luck and get back on the road soon.

    Mike,

    Welcome to the Forum.

    Do you have a Smart Wheel (with your cruise control and wiper buttons on your steering wheel)? If so you will have a computer box located near your 12 volt fuse panel. The control box is a black box approx. 6" X 6" with several plugs coming from the bottom. There will be a white plug with 2 large white wires (approx #8) coming out of the control box.

    First check for signs of burnt wires. Check www.vipwheels.com

    If you are lucky you won't find any signs of burnt wires. Follow those two wires back to your fuse panel and check for blown fuse.

    Also check your brake lite switch. If your switch is bad or stuck your cruise control will think you have the brake on which disengages the CC.

    Our MH’s radio has never pulled in much of a signal unless we are close to a radio tower.

    Our antenna is broken off just above the roof line. I’m hope that is the problem. I’ve been trying to find a replacement antenna but I only see car and CB antennas for sale.

    Camping World, Radio Shack, Wal-Mart all have come up empty handed.

    Does anyone know where the RV mfgs get their antennas?

    Steve, There are replacement/repair antennas out there. They have a spring base, that helps them from breaking. They are designed to fit over the broken end of your antenna and are secured with a set screw. You might check out auto parts houses like Pep Boys, O'Rileys, Car quest, Auto Zone and NAPA. However there is always the tried and true COAT HANGER. Good luck.

    Thanks to both of you for your reply. I have contacted KVH and actually they were not a lot of help. Just wanted to know if I could hear the dish moving. WIth my hearing I could not tell. It would be nice if the panel inside the coach indicated which satellite the dish was locked on to or even which direction it was pointing. I will look for the fuse but I am getting a power light on the switch panel.

    As said before, Welcome to the Forum. I have a Wineguard Road King. Yes I can hear it seeking the satellites.

    There is a switch that turns the satellite off and on. Does yours have such a switch?

    Check for a blown fuse.

    You sure the card is not in the receiver? It would be unusual for the previous owners to have taken the card. You used to be able to swap cards between recievers, but I don't think you can anymore. I read someplace that the card is now somehow matched to the specific reciever. This keeps my neighbor with, say the full NFL package, from 'loaning' one of his cards to me so I can get it too.

    Assuming there is a card in the receiver just pull it out, record the number on it, then put it back in before you call Direct TV. (there is also a way to just get it from the receiver menu, but as each receiver is a bit different, I can't tell you how on yours) They'll also want the make and model and possibly the serial number of the receiver.

    You do not, by the way, have to get your receivers from Direct TV. You can buy them outright from various dealers. We just bought a new HD receiver for our RV, paid $99 (a DVR receiver would have been $299). I simply called Direct TV and had it added to our existing account. If you do get it through Direct TV I think they will write off the cost of the receiver in return for a locked in contract period.

    Jay, you said that you bought an HD receiver for $99. Was that a DVR where you can have two tvs on it or just a Hi Def Receiver? Also where did you purchase it.

    As a "recreational" 2nd home, the possible deductions are Mortgage Interest and Property Tax. Since most motorhomes do not incur property tax, you're primarily talking about an interest deduction, if your motorhome is financed.

    To claim that deduction you must itemize (schedule A) and Turbo Tax will ask if you had any mortgage interest when going thru Schedule A itemized deductions form. Its entered on line 10 or 11 of schedule A, depending on whether you recieve a 1098 form from that financial institution.

    Yes, I claimed that interest deduction for years, until I retired and paid off my MH loan.

    Good explination. WOW you should be congratulated, paid off your motor home.

    Just purchase a 2000 38' Monaco Diplomat with a KVH TracvisionLM stationary dish on the coach roof, with an RCA DRD 430RG receiver inside the coach. It appears that the previous owners installed this in 2002. It has two older standard 19" and 13"TV's.

    It appears that all I need is the card to go in the RCA receiver. I have had a complete run-around from Direct TV, I have spoken to 7 different people, and nobody seems to be able to help. I called one dealer, and he said just get a new receiver from Direct TV. I have called other dealers and they haven't returned my calls.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated. I will upgrade my TV's to lightweight LCD's and HD, but I'd like to get the current system going, and then upgrade to HD later.

    kcsails, Welcome to the Forum. Do you now have Direct TV now in your home? If so you should be able to request a new reciever that will have a new card. We have Dish Network and have two 722 HD DVR's in our home and one standard 311 receiver that we use on our farm and in our coach. Dish knows we do this and they are OK with it.

    So if you have Direct at home just request an additional receiver and after they send you the receiver put it in the coach. There are several thing that can go wrong with Direct. In the past you had to purchase the dish and receiver. Now, if I understand it, they rent you the equipment. The previous owner of your coach may have owned it and Direct has newer units.

    Come on Direct TV Customers out there see if you can help.

    Let me be one of the first to welcome you to the Forum.

    To your question, yes we have taken the second home deduction each year for the last 12 years. However our taxes are done my a CPA.

    I am sure there are people out there that can answer your question.

    Is there a phone number on Turbo Tax for help? Do you have the 2010 version? Did you register it? If so then they should have a help line to call. In the mean time feel secure in knowing that there are only two things in life that are for certain, "Death & Taxes"
