  1. Fishing licenses are issued by state governments. RVers who want to fish in a new state must first buy a license in that state. FMCA member Ron Johnson of Wilsonville, Ala., asked FMCA for help in promoting a national fishing license. He and his wife, Delores, have been RVing since 2000. They love to fish at U.S. national parks and other federal lands. The cost of out-of-state fishing licenses strains their budget, Mr. Johnson says, particularly when they want to fish for only one day or when bodies of water border more than one state. He ponders, "Wouldn't it be nice to have a federal licenses program whereby we could fish anywhere on federal lands for a nominal fee (or even better, a one-time fee like the Golden Age Passport program) and be exempt from state requirements." Vicky Ferrari, chair of FMCA's Governmental and Legislative Affairs Committee, and I thought this would be a good topic to post here. So, what do you think … Is a nationwide fishing license a good idea? Could states agree to a reciprocal license that would allow Americans to fish nationwide while abiding by the fishing regulations of the state where the fishing takes place? Could such a bill be passed? Or, would a regional or multi-state license be more reasonable? By the way, Passport America, the discount camping club, has a Petition for a National Senior Fishing License on its Web site.

  7. IE9 is still in development, and our forums software provider is not supporting it until it is released as final. Currently, IE9 is a "Release Candidate," meaning that Internet Explorer has most of the features that will be included in the final release, but it's still being tested. According to Microsoft, if you are trying Release Candidate IE9, you might experience more errors than you would using an earlier version of Internet Explorer. I would go back to IE8, until the final IE9 product is released.

And of course, the Fast Reply function -- located at the bottom of the discussion thread -- is a quick way to post a reply, without having to open a separate reply page. Thanks for the feedback! Oh, a note about the View New Content link, which can be found near the top-right of the page: View New Content reveals a list of threads/topics containing posts that you have not yet read. 13. We will be undergoing a full upgrade to our software this week. During the next week or so you will notice new and enhanced features as well as color and layout changes. Keep in mind there will be a learning curve for Moderators and Admin with the upgrade. We will do our best to learn and complete all the modifications as quickly as we can. Once the updated site is running, I will highlight some of the new features. You'll also create a feedback topic so you can alert us to any issues or problems related to the software update. We hope this goes as smoothly as possible.

  17. The use of car seats and seat belts is not federally regulated, and laws vary by state. Some states require the use of car seats -- and that all RVs be outfitted with seating that accommodates them. Other states mandate that only some seat belts be available. Some RVs have seats and seat belts for car seats, but the orientation might be sideways instead of foward. Or, the seat belt position might be in a location that's not safe (e.g., behind a table) if a crash were to occur. The Governors Highway Safety Association lists Child Passenger Safety Laws by state: www.ghsa.org/html/stateinfo/laws/childsafety_laws.html Use the NHTSA Child Safety Seat Inspection Station Locator to find a child safety seat inspection station near you. A certified technician will inspect your child safety seats and make sure they are installed correctly.
