  3. High Noon Entertainment, the producers of Cake Boss, Hurricane Hunters, Extreme Waterparks and Guinness World Records Gone Wild!, is producing Mega RV Countdown for Travel Channel and is looking for tricked-out RVs to participate.

Mega RV Countdown is and inside peek at the most over-the-top luxury land yachts in America and beyond. The show is looking for outrageous vehicles -- from in-field to off-grid, from crazy conversions to celebrity road retreats to the latest high-tech features from Europe -- and the people who own and design them. RVs with unique custom features are the focus.

If you can drive it and sleep in it, producers want to see it. Anyone who is interested in sharing their recreational vehicular creation with America should send an e-mail to Kari Woodard at kwoodard@highnoontv.com.

  4. Go to the Family Motor Coach RV Marketplace directory listing:

    http://familymotorcoachrvmarketplace.com

Scroll down to the Towing/Transport category and you will see several Towing subcategories.

The RV Marketplace was also published in the January 2013 issue of Family Motor Coaching magazine. Companies that offer towing-related products are listed on pages 308 and 309. You can see these pages online in the digital edition of the magazine. The January edition is under "Recent Issues."

  5. Although it hasn't arrived yet, the new FMCA North American Road Atlas & Travel Guide is flying off the shelves.

When the preorder option was announced yesterday, our Web site received so many concurrent "hits" that some users experienced slower page-load times.

I remember a road atlas that my father and I shared during a trip to the Smokey Montains in the 1970s, when I was 10. I would spread the atlas across my lap in the front seat of Dad's Mercury Marquis, tracing the route with my eyes and fingers while Dad talked about the towns, exit signs and mile markers along the way.

    It was a good trip.

And I still have that atlas, in a cabinet in my garage. Can't seem to part with it, for the sentimentality it stirs.

The FMCA atlas, 7th edition, is available for preorder from the FMCA Store.

  6. Regarding where to learn to drive a motorhome ...

Go to the Recreation Vehicle Safety & Education Foundation (RVSEF) Web site -- http://rvsafety.com -- and click the "Driving Programs" tab.

RVSEF co-sponsored the RV Driving Safety program at FMCA's last convention, in Indianapolis.

The major objectives of the program are to increase driver awareness; identify drivers' abilities; understand and identify your vehicle(s); determine conditions that affect driving; and make participants safer drivers. The program covers the differences in vehicle size, height, and weight, so you will find it easier to hit the road in your motorhome.

In Indianapolis, the program was divided into two sessions of three hours each, and the cost was $20 per person. Everyone who completed the course received a certificate that may have entitled them to a discount on their insurance premiums.

As FMCA's Gillette, Wyoming, convention (June 19-22, 2013), approaches, check the convention section of FMCA.com to see whether this program will be offered there.

Here's a video called "Drive Your Motorhome Like a Pro," produced by RV Education 101.

  7. According to a CTV News report:

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles says it will "defer" the enforcement of a new law that would requires Canadians and other non-U.S. citizens to carry an international driving permit -- in addition to their regular driver's licence -- if they wished to get behind the wheel of a car while visiting the Sunshine State.

I hope you enjoy this new feature, and find it useful.

  9. Ah, now I remember ... the Winnebago Brave didn't make it off the farm land. Too bad.

Those zombies are so slow, you could escape from them in a Zamboni. But I agree that the self-containment of motorhomes would be beneficial, and their roofs are great lookout points for spotting -- and shooting -- the walking dead.

I don't get AMC, so I'll have to wait for Season 3 on Netflix, I guess.

  10. ***Spoiler Alert***

The Winnebago Brave might have had some mechanical problems, but, sadly, it outlives Dale, the character on "The Walking Dead" who owns it. Beneath the surface, I think Dale enjoyed tinkering with his classic coach and wouldn't have been happy with an upgrade.

I haven't seen Season 3 of the show, which airs on AMC. But Season 2, available on Netflix streaming, is very good.

  11. Great idea but do I have to be online to read it. Or can I download it and read it later when I don't have an internet connection?

In addition to choosing the Download PDF option on the Tools menu, I like the right-click alternative. Right-click your mouse on the magazine pages to pop up a quick menu of the most used reader features, including Download PDF and View Mode. View Mode lets you choose one- or two-page mode.

    post-220-0-68280000-1360081702_thumb.jpg

Once you become accustomed to the tools and layout of the digital edition, you'll be zipping your way around in no time.

  12. Our software provider does not offer a custom spell checker.

It would be nice to have something in the text editor, rather than having to compose in a word processor program, run spell check there, and then copy to the forums.

Offhand, I'm not aware of any major forums that have a built-in spell checker that works well.

Some of the major Internet browsers, if they are up-to-date, have spell checkers built-in. With some browser versions, you have to install the addon, such as ieSpell for Internet Explorer, to add it into the browser you are using.

The Google Toolbar for IE and Firefox also offers a spell check button.
