A local small fleet owner always replaced his steer tires without removing the rim. Swore by it! Had fifteen 18 wheelers.

Don't want to get Brett mad at me ,but I also carry a Porter-Cable 150 PSI  6 gallon compressor for tire inflation. However I never travel into areas with high ambient outside air moisture.

I carry the portable compressor in the back of our Subaru Forester.

Be sure to use a air dryer on the air line.

I guess I am shocked that anyone with a 40' MH or larger would carry a spare and/or equipment to change a tire.  How often do you have flats?  Is this an annual event or maybe happens every 4 or 5 years?

I have a cheap compressor to air tires to 125psi plus jacks/tools/spare for my trailer.  We are fairly new to MH's though, am I missing something?

The reason I carry a spare is in the event I need it I have it.  Usually if you have a spare part with you it is never needed.  I've traveled over 400K miles in 42 years in about 10 different motorhomes and had to change about 12 tires.  I always carry a fire extinguisher but fortunately have never needed it.

Bill, the one I have is very similar to that. DD, haven't been that luck every time, guess I could bring a ratchet strap to squeeze the tire in lieu of....

One time I did have an issue with seating the bead because the tire was stored laying flat on the floor with other tires on top of it.  The beads were to close to each other.  With the bottom bead in place I used duck tape between  the loose bead and the wheel and it worked.  I have used a ratchet strap with limited success because the tire is pretty stiff.

Carl, id carry just the tire and tools to swing it on the side of the road, done so many of them over the years its pretty simple, have all of the tools to do so, just don't have adequate air for the Bead Seater

    DD...---Now that's the set up!!

The 22.5 wheels don't need a bead seater,  just line up the bead evenly on the wheel and minimum air volume will seat it.  Aluminum wheels are even easier.  I've done it a number of times on the side of the road as well as at home.

  5. I have always carried a spare, I won't go anywhere with out one.  I my current coach, 98 Fleetwood Discovery, I mounted a spare under the propane tank along side of the engine on the passenger side.  It has an electric winch to lift it into position.  I have professional tire changing tools so I can mount a tire on the wheel.  I use the on board air for powering the impact wrench, airing up tires, etc.  I have a 1 inch air impact wrench and use my levelers to jack the coach.  I have a Tire Minder transmitter on the spare so I can monitor the pressure.

  6. I presume your fridge is an rv type so you don't want to use it on electric because of the high amp draw compared to a household type.  If you want to dry camp for 1 to 2 weeks at a time I would suggest you do a dry run in your driveway.  Run everything you would dry camping, tvs, lights, furness, inverter, anything that draws current from the batteries.  after the first 24 hours see where the battery charge is. If you are wanting to rely on solar only don't start the gen.  If you need to reduce the amp draw, try unplugging your tvs and dvd player and any other electronics as they draw almost as much current when turned off as when on.  If you can't maintain battery voltage and have to use the gen then you will have to increase you solar wattage if you don't want to run the gen.

DD69.  Even where you live and travel, every paved surface has abrasive chemicals that affect you...especially during and after a rain event.

All of my vehicles, motorhome, 3 Prius, 2 Silverado 1500 have lived there life in the Southwest and have zero rust underneath.  Motorhome has traveled coast to coast and border to border at the optimum time of the year weather wise.

Roland...when you say "Fifth wheel unit" you referring to the trailer or the hitch? Assuming the trailer itself, cant imagine why anyone would spend $100,000 on a Fifth wheel.

What's a FIVER? Sounds like something a shot of penicillin would cure .

They are all trailers. How they hook to the motorized vehicle is either a bumper tow or a bed tow.  The term fifth wheel was a term the sales dept dreamed up to make a trailer sound more appealing.  Originally the set up was a 4 wheel pickup truck with a hitch in the bed, making it the fifth wheel.  Now it doesn't make sense because most trucks are duallys so that would be a seventh wheel.

Ok thanks, how much hydrogen peroxide do you use per gallon of fresh water?

    JR

What I do is to fill the hose with somewhere between a pint and a quart.  Then hook it up to the spigot and run about 15 to 20 gallons of water into an empty tank.  Then open each faucet cold water until treated water comes out about 20 seconds,  open hot at the farthest faucet for about 2 minutes and then open each other hot faucet for about 10 seconds each.  Let it sit for a while and then fill up the tank and you ready to use it.  Its 88 cents a quart at Walmart.

    Hello all,

I know this is an old post, but I am ready to sanitize our potable water tank.  Our water tank holds 175 gallons of fresh water and question how much bleach to use to sanitize the tank?  I've read to use 1 cup per 10 gallons up to 1 gallon per 100 gallons.  What would you all recommend?

    JR

I would never use bleach.  I use hydrogen peroxide to treat the water, I got the info from a water quality engineer for a chemical plant.  No after taste to contend with.

How else would you "tow" something if it isn't behind the motorhome ? Has anyone ever seen something towed in front of a motorhome?

An inquiring mind would like to know.

There are other ways of towing things.  I tow my boat behind my pickup for example.  I have seen a receiver mounted on the front of a motorhome and would launch a boat by aiming the trailer down the ramp.
