I am going to replace my battery cables on my 4 house batteries, 6v deep cycle. What size cable should I use? What is proper gauge in wiring these in series? Is 2 or 4 gauge OK for house batteries?
-
Thanks for the info. I do have some green colored corrosion. Would a bad battery control circuit board cause house batteries to not charge?
-
Ok, if it's not the battery cables what else could cause the low VDC reading I'm getting?
-
QUESTION: Can the battery cables be bad and need to be replaced? I had the inverter is turned on with a steady light and the charger is turned on with blinking green light. Does having the inverter/charger turned on make a difference in the VDC reading.

Ok, I checked the connections. I'm unplugged from Shore Power. I checked two house batteries in series and I'm now getting 12.41 VDC I checked the other two house batteries in series and I'm getting 12.38 VDC Everything is turned off/unplugged in MH accept refrigerator in AC mode.

I tested the volts on the house batteries individually (disconnected) and two of the batteries read 6.39v, one reads 6.38v and one read 6.40v. QUESTION: My understanding is a 6-volt battery that is charged should read 6.25 to 6.37. So wouldn't this indicate the house batteries are ok?

Thanks wolfe10.

I have not taken the house batteries to have them load tested yet. I tested the chassis and house batteries with the volt meter again this morning. This time I had everything in the MH turned off and unplugged. Only appliance turned on was the refrigerator in AC mode. Here is the voltage readings I am getting now. Plugged into Shore power Voltage at chassis batteries tested in series: 14.01vVoltage at house banks batteries tested in series: 14.00v Unplugged from Shore power Voltage at chassis batteries tested in series: 12.82vVoltage at house banks batteries tested in series: 12.04v QUESTION: Is the voltage reading for the chassis batteries normal? That is a big drop in voltage on the chassis batteries from plugged in vs unplugged. The chassis batteries are brand new and installed last week.

Ok, I will get them charged and load tested and go from there. Could the charger on my Inverter/Charger be bad and not charging the house batteries? Is there a way to test the charger?
-
When I disconnected from shore power and tested the voltage on the house banks I did see 12.8v then started dropping and stopped at 12.02v. Just confirming this is not normal correct?

Ok, when I disconnected from shore power and tested the voltage I did see 12.8v then started dropping then stopped at 12.02v No appliances were on except the refrigerator was on AC. Would the refrigerator cause the drop?

HOW LONG WAS IT ON SHORE POWER BEFORE YOU UNPLUGGED AND TESTED VOLTAGE? We have been on shore power for 22 hours. My MH has an inverter/charger. Could the charger be bad? If so, is there a way to test it?
-
Was the inverter on? YES How old are your house batteries? 4 MONTHS OLD. THE DAY WE INSTALLED THE HOUSE BATTERIES WE ALSO TRAVELED THE SAME DAY. How long was the shore power off before you took the battery voltage reading? 1 MINUTE

When plugged into shore power, my two refrigerator and two TV's were turned on, laptop plugged in charging and bedroom lights turned on. When unplugged the two TV's were off, laptop plugged not sure if it was charging and bedroom lights stayed on. I used a multimeter by Klein Tools to test the batteries. The charger/inverter was turned ON.

Here is the voltage readings I am getting now. My volt meter that I always used went out and this one I'm using was a gift. It turns out that this voltmeter unit only outputs whole volts which is useless. I will pick one up and redo the volt readings. Thanks.

Wolfe10 my digital volt meter is set in DC mode and I connected red lead to the positive terminal and the black lead to the negative terminal in series to get volt reading.
-
I will take a look at my volt meter.

The inverter/charger on my MH is a Freedom 458 Series COMBI inverter/charger model 81-2022-12(214) dated 01/05/01.

My two engine batteries were just replaced. The service repair man said that my engine batteries are getting a overcharge because my battery control circuit board is bad and needs replaced. The service repair man turned my inverter/charger off so I checked the voltage at the chassis batteries and house banks both with my inverter/charger turned OFF and with it turned ON. With SHORE POWER OFF and GENERATOR OFF (with inverter/charger OFF) Voltage at chassis: 12v Voltage at house banks: 12v With SHORE POWER OFF and GENERATOR OFF (with inverter/charger turned ON) Voltage at chassis: 11v Voltage at house banks: 10v Plugged into shore power with generator off (with inverter/charger OFF) Voltage at chassis: 11v Voltage at house banks: 11v Plugged into shore power with generator off (with inverter/charger turned ON) Voltage at chassis: 12v Voltage at house banks: 12v

I have two 12v engine batteries on my diesel MH. I understand the engine batteries receive a charge when driving, but I have a few questions.1. Are the two 12v engine MH batteries receiving a charge when I am plugged into shore power?2. Are the two 12v engine MH batteries receiving a charge when I run the generator?3. Can the two 12v engine MH batteries receive an overcharge? If yes, what would cause this (a bad board, etc.)?I appreciate any help/advise you may have. Thanks. 2001 Fleetwood Discovery 37'330 CAT HP, Freightliner XC

Thank you. I read posts where others put more PSI in the rear than the front, but maybe they had their coach weighed and it required more PSI in the rear than the front. Thanks for the quick reply!

I have not had my MH weighed/4 corner weighing yet. For now I am going to run what the sticker behind the driver seat states. The sticker behind the driver seat states 100 PSI for the front and 90 PSI for the rear. I have a 2001 Fleetwood Discovery 37 ft 330 CAT MH with 6 brand new Michelin XRV 255/80R/22.5 tires Why would the front steer tires have more PSI than the rear tires? The rear has all the weight. Thanks.

Update: The burning smell when driving is now gone. I was concerned as I have never experienced this before with any new tires I have purchased. Thanks everyone for responding and for the help.

Yes, but not 100% sure. I smell the new rubber smell outside the coach like in a tire warehouse. When driving it smells different like burnt rubber or burnt wires. The smell started since the tires were mounted.
