  2. OK, I have put on my dunce cap. What are "signatures" ?
  3. Just to add some ketchup to the hamburg. At the recommendation of a certain national officer, one of our best friends who full times in a large 5th wheel applied for and is now a full fledged member of FMCA and as a matter of fact is right now camped in Cinci in the FMCA campground. Considering the fact that I don't believe he can be the only one, if the vote goes negative, how will national handle them?
  4. Thanks RFSOD48 for starting this post and thanks MANHOLT for the Lucas suggestion. I bought a bottle and did the bottom half, what I could reach from the ground. What a great product. This will probably get me off my keester to keep the bottom half presentable. By the way, what happened to my ID at the left of our posts? If I won't own up to what I post, I won't post it.
  5. Or another possible source. I know you said you smelled it near the kitchen but if you have an electric blanket, most of the controls won't live through the non-pure sine wave inverters. The smoke definitely escapes. The smell could be moving up that far in the coach. Don't ask me how I know. Just a thought.
  6. I put my ballot in the mail yesterday. Printed it off the digital edition.
  7. Thanks for the heads up on the ballot. We belong to GS and Escapees as well as FMCA. Spuds, amen.
  8. Well this statement is me. Other than following this forum, I am always 2 to 3 months behind in my magazine reading. I was of the opinion that this issue had been settled at the summer national rally. Obviously, not so. I'm glad I stumbled across this thread. So now I (foot already in mouth) have to ask; from reading here, I gather there is a paper ballot in one of my unread issues? Which one? I'll rip it out and it will be in the mail tomorrow. I do have an opinion and have been expressing my opinion to 'National' at every opportunity. I will not miss a chance to cast a vote if I can help it.
  9. I didn't get to work on them today but tomorrow looks good to try to do some extensive clean up and Brett's suggestion on voltage to ground. I have a fairly new digital multimeter so I should be able to get an accurate reading. I haven't taken any specific gravity readings in a long time. A good look at some of those cells should give me a better indication of future life. I really would like to have them last until next spring. And I will be very careful during the cleaning process.
  10. OK, I'm a little behind on this project. The pole won't come with any kind of a usable head on it, correct? Does that come from Walmart? I went there tonight and found the Lucas product but wasn't sure what I needed for an applicator. I will find a paint store or a Lowes to look for a pole.
  11. Wow guys. Thanks for this post. I just stumbled across this thread. I HATE cleaning my coach lazy bugger that I am. I will definitely give this system a try. I agree, any wash/wax product and half the washes just make a mess of the windows. I think I will head for Walmart today to try some of the Lucas product. Hopefully I will find a pole assembly. Best bet; Walmart for that or the local car parts store?
  12. Thanks guys for the information and thanks Wildbill for that websight. Even though I have been doing most of those steps for years, having the info and tables is valuable. I will start by giving them an equalizing charge tonight. Haven't done that for a couple of months. Brett, I will test out that potential voltage difference right away (maybe not today, it is supposed to rain soon). I will do another cleanup soon but don't know how well I can repaint as I'm not sure I can muscle those batteries out of their nests. The batteries have not shown any reduced ability to provide power when needed, aka; short cycling on the generator when boondocking. For that reason, I won't be putting replacement in the budget soon. They still run the wife's C-pap machine all night with no trouble. Thanks again for the help.
  13. But then is that an issue with the inverter/charger or with the batteries? I have not noticed any increased water consumption. They use about 4 oz. per cell per month since they were new. And BTW, is about 5 years an expectable life from good quality 6 volt deep cycle batteries?
  14. In the last 6 months or so I have been having quite pronounced white corrosive looking growth on the steel battery framework in its compartment. The battery terminal and posts are still squeaky clean with no discernible corrosion on them or in the cable connections. I am sure that somehow the batteries are the source of this "growth", but not sure why or what to do about it other than just cleaning it off. A little history. The MH is a 10 year old Tiffin Phaeton. Batteries were bought the summer of 2012. They have been maintained monthly with only distilled water brought to the line. The water has never even gotten close to the top of the grids. The batteries have never been allowed to completely discharge, and when we are on the road, we use a auto gen-start for overnight boondocking. Any ideas as to what this situation is telling me and what to do to stop it?
  15. Verizon's footprint has never been an issue. True, their are some places nothing works. But footprint is the reason we picked Verizon. Just seems like I am getting slower service no matter where I go. Perhaps overworked infrastructure? And the pure aggravation of semi-monthly having to call them to reset my account and they never seem to have any idea why my account got screwed up. As far as equipment, our cell phone is a flip phone (you may laugh now) and Idon't know what the model of the jetpack is. Our first one finally died so bought this one 2 years ago. Guess I'll just stay where I am as none of you in the whole seem to have a better overall experience with other carriers.
  16. First I must say I am looking for opinions here. I find opinions in the aggregate are usually pretty close. Here is my problem. We have been with Verizon for 5 years. We have a cell phone, hot spot and a home phone away from home. To save you the obvious question; the answer is that we often don't even carry the cell phone. First I must say that their footprint has been excellent over the years. But their speeds seem to be going downhill fast. I also have just about had it with their login system when trying to pay a bill. Their system seems to not know me. But it always takes my money once I finally get logged in. So I'm asking, who are many of you using, and specially the fulltimers, how are you finding the footprint and speeds of your carrier.
  17. That is fine in theory, and applaud you for adding to your coach. I'm not sure though how all (or some) of those features would transpose from passenger vehicles to truck size vehicles. Braking systems are quite different. Many of us are towing most of the time. I'll bet that in the future, when trucks start to have them, we will too. But it will come from there first. The truck industry will have to pay for the development. Our industry doesn't have the economic muscle to get the feds to push for that.
  18. Yeah Wayne, you're right. I will still have one year parts but not labor warranty
  19. No, it does not have a NEW warranty. The warranty is from the ORIGINAL date of purchase. So that means I will have a 3 week parts and labor warranty after I get the new (rebuilt) antennae installed. I just got this message back from Winegard this AM. That is the way most warranties are handled but I admit that given the cost of the device, I am disappointed.
  20. Don't know yet. I'll find out when I get to the dealer that is doing the work. I hope the warranty starts over.
  21. Recently had a failure of the SK motor on my traveler antennae. Until now it has been bulletproof. I have only had that device for 10 months. After 3 days of trying to get through to their customer support, I did get a call back. After a test or two, it was determined that the motor had failed and the whole antennae would be replaced under warranty. No complaint there. Once we made the contact, they stepped right up to the plate as far as being replaced under full warranty. They did say that that motor had been a problem and they have "re-designed" the motor. My concern is this; I have had that for only 10 months. Is this a problem just waiting to re-occur? Interested in you other folks out in the big wide world as to your reliability history on this device.
  22. Well a little late but........... I did take the panel off and the unit is pretty much a sealed unit. HOWEVER I disconnected the three input cable at their plugs, (the 2 side cameras and the backup one), plugged them all back in and the noise disappeared. Woila! The interference was in the plug. All better now.
  23. Bill The volume is not eliminating the noise as in the past so either it or the microphone is failing. As we don't use the audio, I really don't care. Wayne77590 I think that is the tactic I will take. It looks like I can remove that whole dash panel with just a few screws and get to the back of the dash unit and hopefully the speaker. Thanks guys.
  24. Our motor home is a 2007 Tiffin Phaeton with a Sony backup camera system. For the last year, when I have the backup camera and microphone turned on, the mic. relays incredible static as well as the ambient sound (usually the engine) so that you can't stand it. Yes, I have tried to turn it down on the dash but to no avail. When the screen comes " to life" with the side cameras during turn signal use, no noise is present. Thus I am pretty sure it is either the mic itself, or the volume control on the dash unit. We don't use the microphone at any time so I just want to disconnect it. Would it be easier to try it at the camera area at the rear of the motor home or at the dash unit? We tow a pickup with a motorcycle in the back of the truck and like to be able to see it.
