  1. A current draw substantial enough to drain a new battery overnight will not be from radios, step control, LP detector, etc.; otherwise everyone's MH start battery would be dead every morning when dry camping.

IMO the simplest and logical way to locate the current draw is to begin removing fuses one-by-one until a temporary inline ammeter(inductive 12VDC ammeters are now available) on the positive cable registers when current draw is drastically reduced. Matter-of-fact, those inductive ammeters were used in the 1950's when I worked in my uncle's garage

Carl (Nationwide policy, independent agency) gave no reason for the increase, the roadside assistance entry simply said "included" without a line for premium. I now know why the increase. I'll be talking to Progressive Monday regardless, if their quote is substantially less they got my business. I owe no allegiance to any insurance company.

rsbilledwards;  I just subscribed to FMCA roadside rescue, $69 beats the heck out of $149/yr. I'm a lifetime GS member, but like I said_ no allegiance.  FMCA/Saferide phone agent told me last Thursday they cover utility trailers, cargo trailers, DO NOT cover boat trailers. I will verify that when I receive my policy packet.  I have the month of April over-lap to compare, as my GS roadside assistance runs to April 30.

I just worked up a sweat in the yard, 71 now, will be 76 later and 57 for a low...I have never Winterized.

I too was working in the yard all day, picking up limbs and hauling them to the brush pile I keep for rabbits(IN has cotton-tails, good eating) to hide and nest. Had a full truck bed from the 70 MPH winds 3 weeks ago. It was 73 in S. Indiana today and I was dressed for 53.That is the first sweat drenched clothes for 2019.

  4. Been down that road. We bought a 40', 15,500# GVWR 5er. We had a 1996 3/4T Dodge CTD already.  The drive from the RV dealership was agonizing for me, mild grades really slowed the truck down, handling was poor. The very next week I bought an 02 Chevy dually Duramax. Towing that 5er was easy and comfortable, even though the duallly was right at its maximum GCWR, and GVW capacity.

Yes, medium-duty trucks(shoot the Ram 1T dually diesel runs about $70,000) are very expensive, thus the move by many to buying a used HDT and modifying it to tow a recreational 5er.

This is National Hero Day.  I personally do not know a Medal of Honor recipient, nor have I met one.  IMHO, all past and present, men and women who signed the blank check, is my Hero's!   Thank You for your Service and God Bless 🙏

All during my late teens, I never knew that the owner of Gerry Kisters furs  (he also owned a cleaners/laundry)was a CMOH recipient, he was-to me, just a very nice easy-going man.

Sadly that liberal college town has removed his name from the airport (to countryfied for a collge town), and anyone younger than me, are ignorant of his valor and recognition by congress.

  6. Gulf Air RV Resort is an Encore park, it is 2 miles from the pier at Ft. Myers beach. You may either use the Encore website to make a reservation or contact the office directly. PM me and I'll send you their direct email & phone #, I don't want to put it in a public forum, Encore doesn't like direct contact for some reason. Indian Creek RV resort is across the street from Gulf Air, mostly permanent trailers, but their maximum length is 38' I think, you'd need to call them or visit their website to make sure.

The sites are close together, and a 40' MH is the maximum length the old park can accommodate; although 2 years ago a family pulled in with a Ford F550 towing a 45' toyhauler 5er. The manager allowed him in, but the 5er stuck out into the street a couple feet. The Ford took up the entire yard area, and they couldn't open the rear ramp. They only stayed a month though.

There is a sister park Further up San Carlos blvd, Ft. Myers Beach RV resort, also an old park. You can check the layouts on Google maps to get a better idea of what I tried to explain. Scroll the map along San Carlos Blvd toward the beach, prior to the bridge onto the island are a couple more RV parks but I can't remember the names.

If you want to stay on the island, and perhaps reserve a beachfront site, check out  Red Coconut RV park,  take a deep breath before you look at the rates.

Gulf Waters RV Resort is another expensive, yet clean and neat place, sites are owned, some are rented $$$$ by the owners. It is behind the new Walmart beside Gulf Air RV resort.

Sorry for the long-winded rambling reply.  FORGOT, make a reservation very soon or the odds are slim.

  7. Yes Carl I know what Sodium Dichlor is, it is stabilized chlorine; how to safely handle it, how to use it to destroy Cyanide( Sodium Dichlor/chlorine may be used to neutralize Cyanide, which makes the solution safe to discharge into a city sewer system). One tsp will sanitize a 100G water system, 1/2 tps  70% Sodium Dichlor will disinfect 100G water while maintaining a safe drinking water level. It leaves no aftertaste like household bleach.

Richard you are correct; this WHO pdf explains using Sodium Dichlor to disinfect drinking water.https://www.who.int/water_sanitation_health/dwq/chemicals/sodium_dichloroisocyanurate_2add_feb2008.pdf

EDIT: Using this chemical is not for a novice, it can cause blindness if it gets in the eyes, and other serious injuries when handled improperly. If the granules get wet in a container it may emit Phosgene gas.

We use the onboard tank exclusively for all needs - bathing, cooking, drinking. We've got a whole-house filter to remove sediment, and a drinking water filter on the sink which further filters water for cooking/drinking. We stopped using bottled water years ago. When possible, I fill the tank from our well water (softened) before leaving on a trip. It holds 90 gallons which will last the two of us more than a week. We'll fill from city water while on the road, but only after double checking on the quality of the water supply at the park/campground.

We do the same. The under-counter Everpure/ADC carbon/silver water filter is for drinking, cooking, and especially coffee maker, and ice maker. If a water supply is suspect I add 1/2 tsp Sodium Dichlor to the 100G fresh water tank to insure the water is disinfected.

  9. Since your Jeep is out-of-warranty there  is another option, which is to have a mechanic/body shop remove the steering wheel lock mechanism. Then you could leave the key in the off position and eliminate the need to disconnect the battery. Newer Jeeps do not have a steering lock.  My 2013 Silverado does not have a steering lock, so leaving the key off is my correct procedure.

Yes you will lose  presets when the battery is disconnected, UNLESS your Jeep has 2 batteries, one is starting (main) battery, the smaller one is for the built-in radio/navigation system/ heads up display.

  10. That was the point of my  posting the link, I agree with you Richard, and think I'll stick with my method. I use Sodium Dichlor powder instead of liquid bleach, it leaves no after-taste, stores easily, and is very effective. One tsp treats 100G water to sanitize the entire fresh water system. I bought a 1lb pouch of Sodium Dichlor powder 8  years ago and still have half of it remaining, it should be stored in an air and water tight container.

So a 100 gallon tank 6.6 bottles of HP? If that’s the case I’m only out $12.00 assuming I fill the tank, if I do 1/2 tank roughly 4 bottles would be more than adequate.

This is the regular bottles you purchase at the dollar store or Walmart right?

Only partially filling your fresh water tank will not expose  the entire tank interior to any liquid sterilization method or chemical.

I've been reading about this online since the thread started. Seems like there is a great variance in the amount of chlorine or hydrogen peroxide that is required to adequately sanitize a water supply. I remember when Milwaukee was dealing with the crypto situation in the 90s, and there were specific guidelines to follow to properly sanitize. Does anyone know of a reliable agency source (NIH, CDC, etc) for the ratios being used in this application?

According to this CDC webpage, a concentration of 7.5% hydrogen peroxide( sold as a premixed solution) is required for complete sanitizing. It is about 1/2  way down the page.

  13.  I have Sailun 275/70R22.5 LR H truck tires on our MH. They are all position tires that are very quiet-running, track well,  and although I never drive in snow or muddy conditions they have good traction when parking on wet grass.

Sailun has some open tread designs that you may like better.

I bought from a local tire shop instead of online, the total bill was $1,380 for 6 tires mounted, balanced and installed in Aug 2018.

Puff, if it were me id consider a Grade 5 or a shear bolt (like a snow blower drive bolt). Grade 8 could potentially be too strong and in the event of a binding you would want that to be the point of failure, not the gear box.

Yup, you want the cheapest, easiest to replace part to be the first to break. Not much logic in installing a $3 bolt that will cause a $100 gearbox to fail instead.
