  1. Well___ Today DW spotted sugar ants in the MH. I re-treated a while ago. It will take a few days to see(not see?) results. We had removed all foods, cleaned thoroughly last fall after winterizing;  guess they just liked the ambiance.

  2. Your plugs may be fine, the 50A receptacle contacts may be what is corroded or "varnished" to the point they prevent a clean connection. Remember, the pedestal receptacles get a lot more use than your plugs, they become worn and lose their spring tension due to generated heat. This causes your relatively new plugs to appear like they do not work properly.

I would not use sandpaper because it removes some metal with every use. Liquid/spray contact cleaner might be a better choice. Yes, the act of unplugging/plugging in likely did clean the connecting contacts enough to  rectify the problem.

FWIW, the spray contact cleaner may be used on the pedestal receptacle contacts without danger, just remember to switch off the main breaker.

  3. Wayne is correct, plus;

Borax/Boron (and Diatomaceous earth)  also works on any insect with an exoskeleton/Skeleton on the outside of the body, it gets underneath the exoskeleton and cuts them up enough they hemorrhage to death. Boron is not completely safe to humans.

Let's all take a moment to remember those that gave their live for this wonderful country of our. And say a prayer for those recovering from injuries sustained while serving to protect us all.

From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU.🙏

AMEN! Freedom is not free, someone paid the ultimate price for it. Statistics show only 55% of the U.S. population know why Memorial Day/Decoration Day is observed. It began in the South after the civil war.

  5. Bill I'd have to measure my front/back clearance before purchase too. They might just gather dust in the basement and never used, but just one use would be worth the price. The one video shows them on a MH of some brand. My wife is improving to the point we may be able to resume traveling some again, I may just follow through with this product. If my MH rears don't have enough clearance from compartments, I'll settle for strap-on chains.

Yep...saw it on TV after Perry Rally, we was in Lafayette!  I still think the truck was in gear or Emergency brake was on!

    Still, bad news...

I don't think the E-brake was the cause or the rear tires would be aflame. If the transfer case was not disengaged it would get very hot, I know from experience, we didn't get our Jeep manual transfer case into neutral properly; we didn't know until another driver pulled alongside and flagged us down that the Jeep was smoking from under the hood. When I raised the hood the transfer case grease was boiling out of the pressure vent, and smoking.

The car would not move by itself with the transfer case in neutral, but the front wheels would turn the case gears anyway when towed. A mechanic readjusted the linkage so we hooked up again and away we went. This happened 3X that trip, but the Jeep was still running OK after a new case, until DW's near-fatal crash in 2016.

Now I know what could have happened.:(

  7. From all the remedies suggested, only Diatomaceous Earth cannot harm infants/children or pets. Since we have neither, I use the Bug Stop Herman recommended. There is a more potent residual spray available, however Bifen i/t must be used according to the SDS to prevent side-effects. That brings us to another issue, spraying potent bug killer onto  ground owned by someone else, controlled by local ordinances ; probably best to ask permission first.

When greasing brake components, be careful not to over do it or you"ll have grease on the brake shoes. If you can see the brake shoes from behind the dtums, check if you have a broken shoe.

When we bought our MH, I doubt the S-cams zerks had ever been used, my LF brake did the same thing, plus a loud pop. It took greasing, driving, greasing, driving, 3-4 times to eliminate the brake jerking the steering wheel hard left.

The S-cam housings have a weep hole for excess grease to escape instead of pushing into the drum area. The only problem with that is some commercial grease gun setups have too much pressure and volume, which can push grease past the seal into the drum area due to the small weep hole. I always use a hand gun for that reason.

Like you said, be careful! A little grease is good, too much is $$$$.

  9. Auto Zone lends tools free of charge. You must leave your CC info on file until you return the tool. I've done so several times for expensive tools I only use once a year or two. Back then if they didn't have the tool they even bought one to lend you.

My ISL has a screen on the pump inlet. However with two filters before it it’s not likely algae would make it that far.

I had a bad case of Diesel bugs a few years ago in our coach. They originated in the tank and stopped at the primary filter. Looked like blackberry jam and multiplied like The Blob, if anyone has even seen that movie.

I learn more every day. My 1996  5.9 lift pump was the first thing in the progression from tank to injection pump. When I had my lift pump off to replace the flexible lines from the metal lines along the frame to the pump I removed the screen to check it-clean as new. The flexible fuel lines though were collapsed inside enough to restrict flow, causing the engine to lack power on a hard pull, that was 2001. Wasn't that about when diesel fuel was changed?

Yes I remember The Blob, scary then, hokey today.

  11. I would do a pre-fit before actual use, even though they show them on a  class A MH in one of the videos. The also show them used on a pickup and SUV, even though the initial wording says commercial use only. The video that really got me was the semi using them on solid ice covering pavement. It deflected the tire by at least 2" as it ran over the TruckClaw, that had to damage the belting. I would never use them on pavement after watching the video, the sock would be better for that use IMO.

They would be a boon at a rainwater soaked rally field.

  12. While perusing the Iowa 80 truck stop website I stumbled upon this product for those muddy situations: TruckClaws. They are not cheap @ $300/pr, only 1 pr required for each drive axle per their video at the bottom of the page.I suspect that is still less money than just one tow out by a commercial wrecker. I may buy a pair for JIC security that I may find my MH stuck in a muddy field sometime.

My ISC has a lift pump, although I've never had it off, I would think it also has a screen like my old 5.9 CTD had in its lift pump. I wonder if algae can clog this screen?

The weight might be slightly higher but in the example I was talking about you only have a increase in diameter of 0.2". That would be less than the difference between used and new. Without a scale I don't know how much heavier the rims are.

The confusion I see is people assuming because it is a 19.5 it is bigger than a 16". While the rim is, the diameter of the package is the same.

    Bill

Yep, same thing with car tires. A 16" tire can have the same OD as a 20" tire. https://tiresize.com/chart/

Amen, mine went up 23% this year due to "last year's hurricane losses and increase in uninsured [illegal alien] motorists" here in Florida according to Progressive CSR.

I asked my agent about those reasons for across-the-board premium increases . She said usually smaller or under-capitalized companies do this to recoup losses in the affected states, but larger companies only increase premiums in those affected states.

I have a hard time understanding, why anyone who can buy a High End RV, balk at paying the tax.  Especially if you live in FL.!  Pay the fine & pray that that's, the end of it.  It's easy to get the plates and a LLC...how you now undo it, I don't know, but don't forget your check book!

I agree, same with hunting cheap fuel. For those talking about tax avoidance, remember that is legal. Tax evasion is NOT legal.
