Jim, I have been on 64 from Raton to Taos in a 28 foot gas coach. The only problem I had was lack of power. The roads were fine, a bit winding and a lot of ups and downs. I have friends that were Workampers in Eagles Nest, NM in a 40 ft. Roseair and had no problems.

If you would like stop in Cimarron  and visit Philmont Scout High Adventure Camp. You  might disconnect in Cimarron and drive your tow to the camp it's only a couple of miles and a great trip. Of course that is depending on it being open because of the Pandemic.

Have a great trip and be safe.

    Herman

I don’t think you need to disconnect. They have large parking lots. One is on the the training center side of the road, and the other is on the other side where crews start out on their treks.

  2. If you were registered for Tucson, you get a certificate to use to register for another convention with the same amenities. If you were registered for Lincoln then you get a full refund credited to your charge card or a check if that was your method of payment.

I have received my certificate which I will use for Gillette, and a refund has been credited to my charge card on April 21st. The certificate came via email before that, but I don’t have record of the date.

  3. Please explain more about what trim insert you are wanting. If it is a strip of plastic that fits in the horizontal metal trim, then measure a piece of the old plastic. Usually, the plastic is squeezed to fit in the groove top and bottom. I replaced mine with trim I found at a salvage RV supply which was sold by the foot. You might try Ickes RV Surplus Supplies, 765-728-5668.

  4. We bought our current 2006 motor home in 2008 from Camping World in Indianapolis. It had 3,000 miles on it and many after market add ons. We asked why the first owner had sold. CW called their buyer to find out. The story was that the owner wasn’t retired and wasn’t getting good use. It was bought from a bank in Ohio. We figured it was a repossession.

  5. Dan & Herman. I cannot answer Dan’s question, because I live near Indianapolis, Indiana not New York or LA.

I think that DirecTV’s web site has a map that shows the areas covered by the different spot beams. I receive the local channels from Indianapolis. They are received south in Kentucky and north as far as Amana, Iowa. It is an ellipse shaped beam just like you would see from a flashlight held at a steep angle on the floor.

  6. Rather than give incorrect information, contact Doug Uhlenbrock at FMCA for the exact answer. I have seen the map of the red, blue and green states, but I searched for it and didn’t find it. Contrary to what many members believe, I know that Georgia is not one of them. There is a threshold limit that must be in attendance before out of state dealers are allowed. Texas and Tennessee are not either. I think Wyoming, North Dakota are two of the friendly states. Wisconsin is if you haven’t been there previously within some limit of years.

  7. I was probably grandfathered in, because I had both east and west feeds of ABC, CBS,  and NBC. Had FOX originally, but found that we were not watching it enough. If we do drop DirecTV, we will miss OAN and FOX news.  Also, HALLMARK, HGTV, LIFE, LIFETIME, AMC & HISTORY. The local channels DirecTV provides is meaningless to us. We get seven times as many over the air and HD.

  8. Welcome to FMCA. Suggest you look into chapters in your area. The next area rally that will be close to you should be the Western Area rally in Indio, CA next January 6-10, 2021. Probably will have 300-400 RVs.

The next national convention will be next March in Perry, GA which is a long way away. Gillette, WY, July 7-10, 2021 would be closer to you. It is a great facility. Hopefully, we will see you there.

  9. I just received the following message from DirecTV which means we will no longer receive New York and Los Angles ABC, CBS and NBC in our motor home. Not sure that we will continue to pay for DirecTV. Local channels have many more choices than what was available when we first signed up for DirecTV.

“Regrettably, we must inform you of a new law that affects your programming. Until recently, the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act Reauthorization (STELAR) Act authorized DIRECTV to provide you access to your out-of-market broadcast networks—ABC, CBS, NBC, CW, and/or FOX. Unfortunately, Congress has decided to not renew key provisions of this law. As a result, on June 1, 2020, we no longer will be able to provide you access to these out-of-market channels. These are not available anywhere else. However, this change does not affect access to your existing local network stations.

If you’re paying for these channels, you’ll receive a credit within 1-2 billing cycles for this programming change.

If you have any questions, please call us at 866.595.9429.

    Thank you for choosing DIRECTV.”

  10. If you have ever sat in on an Executive Board meeting, you would know that the Staff makes a lot of recommendations. But keep in mind that the National Area Vice Presidents are controlling the Executive Board. A year ago they took 5.5 hours changing the proposed budget to benefit their own travel, area travel, and area support under the disguise that the funds were needed for chapter visitation which on the whole they are not doing.

    jchaney12,

    Welcome to the FMCA Forum.

Please tell us more about your toad.  What year and how many miles?

Is the tow bar level when towing-- if not, how many inches up or down from coach to toad?

    Ross,

Are you referring to the CV joint?

No, the drawbar has a swivel between the arms and the receiver. It moves about 15-30 degrees either way. If it does not, as you turn great force is placed on the towed on the same side as you are turning.

  12. Possibly. Is the tow bar at the proper level?    Do you leave the tow bar attached to your auto when not towing? Which is not recommended. Is the knuckle joint twisting freely? If not try to break it loose with a product that will free up rust. If that knuckle does not move freely (not loose), when you turn increased pressure is forced on the the suspension of the auto which might explain your problem.

Of course, this is a classic accounting tactic by which revenues from future years are used to resolve a current cash flow problem.  It doesn't fix any problems; it simply delays them.

Not in FMCA. Dues paid ahead are placed in reserves and recognized in the year and month of the anniversary.  What you describe is the way accounting was done in 1990-2005 and maybe more years. The advantage to FMCA is the possible earnings on the investments and probable renewals.

  14. Reminder: Many if us treat our fuel for condensation water and algae in the winter. I did that for our snowbird stay this winter in Arizona. When I returned home in Indiana, I topped off as I usually do, but today I remembered I have to treat the fuel. Probably will not use motor home until August which is 4 months away from the time I got home.

  15. While the technical wording is as you say, there are way too many cases where FMCAssist had gone the extra mile.

You are wrong about if you are out of the country, they will take you home; and if it is your remains, they will be returned to the location of ‘your’ choice. The RV is returned to your home only limited by drivability and $5,000 max.

But all this to no avail because you have made up your mind be it right or wrong.

  16. Renewal dues are $75. New memberships are $85. For many years new members pay more for the first year to help offset the goose egg.

As a full timer, you are covered by FMCAssist. You may think it is no value to you, but neither is life insurance. FMCAssist will repatriate you to the location of your choice. It will transport you to the medical facility that is agreed to be the best to care for you. If you were to buy this coverage, the cost would be &115-$130/year. Or about $40 more than your renewal dues.
