kaypsmith Report post Posted March 4, 2017 Have you checked the water level in the radiator since starting it? Possibly coolant had or has an air pocket, don't know what unit or motor you have, but my Detroit will shut down with the condition that I described.
jleamont Report post Posted March 4, 2017 If full on coolant as Kay mentioned, check the belt. I saw one do the very same thing (overtemp code) and it never warmed up to be actually hot. I never dug into how but it puzzled me.
hermanmullins Report post Posted March 5, 2017 Jimoc, If it hasn't been said before, Welcome to The Forum. After you replaced the coolant and started the engine did you recheck the coolant level. After changing coolants there are area that will not get coolant back into them until the water pump begins to push the water and the Thermostat opens. After running the engine to the operating temp, shut it down let it cool and re check the level. The warning you are receiving may not be over heating but just the low level alarm. Good luck and let us know what you find. Herman
