burgawpm Report post Posted October 4, 2018 I am installing a new ATS which has a different wiring configuration than the original. The cord from the panel is not long enough to reach the new ATS wiring configurations. I thought of using a junction box or putting a plug on the end from the panel and running a wire from the ATS with a plug. Any suggestions?
rossboyer Report post Posted October 4, 2018 I would think that a permanent junction box would be better than plug and receptacle.
burgawpm Report post Posted October 4, 2018 Thanks, I was thinking the same. Just not sure what kind of terminals to use. I would think something more than wire nuts. It is 50 AMP.
wolfe10 Report post Posted October 4, 2018 Consider using a terminal strip. Crimp on "eye"/ring connectors and screw then to the terminal strip.
kaypsmith Report post Posted October 4, 2018 I also like to use an ac disconnect box for this type of extension, less than 10 bucks at any box electrical store, Lowes, Home Depot, or Ace Hwdw., like you would use for air conditioner disconnect. Here is one at home depot. https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-60-Amp-240-Volt-Non-Fuse-Metallic-AC-Disconnect-TFN60RCP/100674085?cm_mmc=Shopping|G|Base|D27E|27-8_CIRCUIT_PROTECT._DEVICES|NA|PLA|71700000034238981|58700003943782709|92700031956831784&gclid=Cj0KCQjw9NbdBRCwARIsAPLsnFbihdnKxztFjOKR7k14y4-4jMTZhWhjfMs14GSvulpsZz9wA3HKRg8aAt2sEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CKD7l-XK7d0CFUlswQodZ9gOmQ
rossboyer Report post Posted October 4, 2018 Terminal strip is a good idea as long as it is enclosed in a connection box with cover to prevent accidental short.
