FMCAssist Change

Recommended Posts

Just saw this on the FMCAssist web page:

Quote

Effective October 1, 2020, the FMCAssist program will no longer be administered by Seven Corners. The new provider of the program is Chubb Travel Assistance. To learn more please view the FMCAssist webpage below or call the Membership Department at 800-543-3622

I don't see any info on the changes that may take place, but I will keep an eye on that.

The change is the provider, CHUBB Group, with no change in services including same phone number. Anyone starting a claim being handled by Seven Corners will be served by Seven Corners. This is typical of changing insurance providers and was stated by the chair of the Risk Management Committee during the August Executive Board meeting. Anyone calling October 1st or after will be served by the CHUBB.

Medical Evacuation and Repatriation If an Insured Person's Accidental Bodily Injury, disease or illness occurs while on a Trip and requires the Medical Evacuation or Repatriation of the Insured Person while the Insured Person is on a Trip, then We will pay the Covered Expenses for such Medical Evacuation or Repatriation up to $500,000.

WHAT IS NOT COVERED? The following exclusions apply to all benefits or Hazards under this policy. Additional exclusions, limitations or conditions may also apply to specific benefits or Hazards. Please read this entire policy carefully. Disease or Illness: This insurance does not apply to any claims caused by or resulting from, directly or indirectly, the Insured Person's emotional trauma, mental or physical illness, disease, pregnancy, childbirth or miscarriage, bacterial or viral infection, bodily malfunctions or medical or surgical treatment or diagnosis thereof. This exclusion does not apply to the Insured Person's bacterial infection caused by an Accident or by Accidental consumption of a substance contaminated by bacteria.

Epidemic or Pandemic: This insurance does not apply to any claims caused by or resulting from, directly or indirectly, an Epidemic or Pandemic as defined by the World Health Organization.

Is that a conflict? One section says disease is covered but Exclusions says it's not.

I saw that and have the same question. I've read it carefully and can't see a difference other than the words "medical or surgical treatment or diagnosis thereof".  One might take that as saying that they don't treat the illness itself, but if so it's poorly worded. This needs to be clarified.

FMCAssist has never covered medical expenses. Transportation, repatriation and return of vehicles is covered if you contact them before being transported. That doesn’t mean that you have to call them when emergency transportation is needed. But do so before additional transportation is needed.
