Need grease advice

Recommended Posts

The manual for my 2006 Holiday Rambler Endeavor says most of the chassis grease fittings get lithium-based grease.  Except for the S-cam slack adjusters, where I'm supposed to use a clay-based grease.  Why the difference?  The lithium is high pressure and water proof; seems like it would work fine.  If you're greasing your chassis do you use clay-based grease?  I'm trying to avoid having 2 grease guns.

Mike, the recommendation is due to the extreme heat potential and the location, the slack adjusters and S-Cams get a constant pounding of water when driving in the rain. I do not use clay grease, as I don’t want two grease guns either. I lube our coach 2x per year to make sure no water penetrated, after 8 years I’ve never had any melt away and no water intrusion, I run this product

IMO grease temperature rating and grade are the most important.  Some grease types are not recommended for the automatic slack adjusters, but as far as I know S-cams are not included. #2 grease is soft so it will fill  voids, which eliminates the chance of water collecting and causing damage.

I started using STA-LUBE wheel bearing grease years ago because it realey did stay in the bearings, even after 10-15,000 miles. When you pulled the bearings out they looked like you just packed them. I had a 1967 Chevy 1/2 ton that was tough on bearings and after as little as 5,000 miles there would be no grease in them and metal flakes showing up. I would use their brand (appropriate grease for the application) grease on most everything. After all you have to like a place that says their products are “Intentionally Better Products.”

This would be my recommendation.
