Fleetwood Flair Turn Signals And AC Won't Work

Recommended Posts

I have a 2000 Fleetwood Flair Class-A with 41,000 miles.

It’s having what appears to be an electrical problem. For the second time in a couple weeks, when we start to get underway, three problems occur simultaneously: The turn signals won’t work (on either the coach or our tow behind Jeep), the coach engine AC won’t work and the coach’s ABS warning light stays on. When this happened last week while driving the coach alone, all the problems went away. Now the problems are back while the Jeep is not even attached. Any suggestions would sure be appreciated.

RV Chris,

Welcome to the Forum.

Roll down your drivers window. Put arm straight out for left turn, arm up for right and down for stop.

Sorry couldn't stop myself.

Sounds like you may need to have your codes run. Do you have any check engine lights on when you have the problem? Do you have a Smart Wheel, Cruise and wiper controls in the steering wheel?

You may also have a bad turn signal switch. There are lots of things that go through the T/S other then just the turn Sig.

Since you have multiple items that apear to be occuring at once, I would look for a loose ground or power connection. We had a loose ground connection on our Fleetwood Expedition that burned 7 different circuit grounds. Ours was the wipers, dash air, and a couple of other items. This connection was a stud that passed through the firewall. The counter bore around the stud was too deep causing the crip connectors to not be held tight by the washer and nut.

RV Chris.

You did not mention the check engine light coming on and the fact that it kind of comes and goes.

The ground connections sound like a good starting point. There should be a common ground lug under the dash area, this lug often has a large black cable that goes through the firewall and attaches to the frame at a point already mentioned.

You live in a humid part of the country and some rust is very possible the area of coach to chassis Ground cable connection(s)

Rich.

With everything working, identify what items work only with the ignition on. They will include the dash HVAC fan, etc. Next time your electrical gremlin shows up, see if all these ignition-controlled items are inoperative, or just part of them.

If all, either the ignition switch, wiring from ignition switch to ignition solenoid or the ignition solenoid is bad.

Let us know what you find and we may be able to help with the troubleshooting.

As already mentioned, with any electrical issue, it never hurts to tighten all electrical connections, particularly at the batteries.

Brett
