El Paso to Tucson Southern Route

Is anyone familiar with Highway 9 which runs along the border through Columbus, NM? It intersects with Highway 80 south to Douglas, AZ where you can travel on to Tombstone and Tucson. Are Highway 9 and Highway 80 good roads for motorhomes? Google Earth Street View shows it to be a two lane road with no shoulder. Is it like that all the way?

We have driven 9 from Hachita (came in from Deming) on over to 80 and then on to Bisbee. No problem. Yes a back two lane road, but almost no traffic.

We would take it again of going that way.

Be sure to be full of fuel and take something to eat, not may services...........I help build this road many moons ago and it should still be great because there is no traffic to speak of. The Border Patrol is all over it for sure. Remember this road is low on the priority list for repairs.........

If you like country no one sees often then take that road from Las Cruces NM to Rodeo NM and beyond.......BTDT.....

Thanks for the input. It seems like a good backroad alternative to the Interstate which we like.
