dickandlois Report post Posted January 22, 2014 Well, it was not too bad this AM temperature wise, only -1 at 8:00 and no wind. We are having and old fashioned winter. Have not had one in the area over the last 15 to 20 years and one tends to forget just how cold it really can get and the beauty the cold can bring as long as one is able to keep warm. This AM we had ice fog in the area and with the sun coming up there where Snow Bows, with a full color spectrum. With it being this cold the Great Lakes are freezing over to a greater degree then in a number of years and as you look out across them it looks more like one would expect to see looking out over Hudson Bay. A very Gray, White and brown bleakness as the landscape and trees wait for Spring. Rich.
desertdeals69 Report post Posted January 22, 2014 I'm glad I winter at home in Arizona where mornings in the low 40's and afternoons in the mid 70's is just comfortable for me!

jlandon13399 Report post Posted January 22, 2014 We were in St George, UT first week in December 2013. Experienced 8" of snow and 0 degrees F in the AM. Coach was warm but we went through a lot of propane!! Since returning to Arizona the temps have been in the 70's.
elkhartjim Report post Posted January 22, 2014 I know you know where Texas is, Rich. Of course its forecasts to be in the 20's with possible sleet/freezing rain Thursday night, Friday morning. On the other hand, in the Houston area its 55 at 11:45 AM according to Weather Bug. Have you considered going ice fishing, Rich?
dickandlois Report post Posted January 23, 2014 Jim, This is a good Ice Fishing year! With the last warm up, the ice got a little on the So So side; but that did not last long! We are kind of hoping that these real cold days will do some damage to the invasive insects that we have in the area, so if we get some -20 degree temps it might be a good thing as long as it does not damage the buds on the fruit trees ! Always a trade off. Oh! and those rainbows caused by the Ice crystals in the air are called Sun Dogs, but I like calling them Snow Bows. Rich.
