2004 Winnebago Low Voltage

I have a 2004 Winnebago Adventurer with the following problem: We started on our trip to Florida and within about 20 miles the sun visors stopped working. Fortunately they are in the down position, so we get some shielding. At the same time the radio went out, the compass temp guage and the passenger side map light also are not working. It appears these are all on the same circuit.

I checked all the fuses with a continuity meter, cleaned the contacts, and just to be sure replaced the radio fuse with a new one. I checked DC voltage on the dash 12 volt receptacle which also appears to be on the same circuit, and I got a reading of 7.5 volts. All the other receptacles in the coach tested at 13 volts (ie full voltage).

Any help on where to look for the fault would be appreciated.

What is the voltage reading at the fuse for that circuit?

While ground issues can also cause low voltage readings, it is unlikely that all those items use the same ground attachment point. Clearly, if they do, that is another place to check.

Are all the affected items wired to only work with the ignition on, or do/did they work with the key in the off position or out of the ignition. If only with the ignition on, the IGNITION SOLENOID is another place to check-- voltage at the IN lug and also at the OUT lug. The contact surface of the solenoids can become pitted which causes resistance and drop in voltage.

Thanks for the reply, the voltage at the radio fuse measured 12v, and yes all the above are designed to work with the ignition on. The radio does work off the house battery, but not in the engine switch position, and the rearview camera is working when the coach is running.

Where is the ignition solenoid located?

I would check the voltage at the engine battery with the engine not running and running. It should read 12.6 or so with the engine off and 14.4 or so with it running. It sounds like you may have a bad engine battery.

The solenoid that operates when the ingnition key is in the RUN position connects the alternator/engine battery to the house batteries when the engine is running or when the AUX START switch on the dash is held on. If the house battery voltage is 14.4 when the engine is running it is working.

Based on what I understand from your description of the problem I don't think that the AUX START solenoid is the problem.

In any case it located somewhere close to the batteries under the step. On some models it is behind a panel on the steps and sometimes in a black box located in the upper section of the bay where the propane tank is.

Just Click on your model number in my post and it will open the electrical portion for your coach!

Open the Auto electric file, look at page #2, upper right hand corner.

Sounds like there maybe a loose connector, some times they are in behind the door panels.

Thank you all again for your responses. We made it home from our trip to Florida and brought the Coach to a dealer for a service appointment for another non-related item.

They looked at it, and discovered there is a secondary fuse which was blown. The fuse was replaced and should now be fixed. We will pick up the coach Monday and we will see. I am not sure where the other fuse is, but I will find out from service.

My big issue was that if they had returned my call I probably could have figured this out while on my trip instead of waiting until we got home.

Oh well, at least we should be good for Perry!

Apparently there is a secondary fuse pannel up behind the tow kick under the dash, very hard to find and get to. It was a 15 amp fuse, tied into the parking breaker circut which effected all of the items.

All good now.
