Travel To Grand Canyon from Ohio

Recommended Posts

We are planning a summer trip to the Grand Canyon and was wondering if it would be beneficial in towing our car with us. Any information would be helpful. Thanks

BobandBobbie,

Welcome to the FMCA Forum.

A little more information would help us give meaningful comments:

What kind of coach do you have?

How long a trip?

How do you travel-- move every day or so, stop for a week or so and explore an area??

We have a 2005 31 ft Tioga Class C and would be towing a 2012 Ford Focus.

Our plans would include for part of the trip to stop every couple days and when we get to Grand Canyon area to spend 3 or 4 days there. Part of the trip would be taking old route 66. We would be stopping in Branson, Mo. for a couple days also.

Our trip plans right now would be 3 weeks unless we get some feedback that we might want to spend a little longer.

Our location in Ohio is Lima and we are situated halfway between Toledo and Dayton on I-75.

Any info would be appreciated and thanks for the welcome.

Bob

We always take the tow car with us. How will you get to Wally World... pack up and take the MH? How will you tour the local area? What if the MH breaks down?

Unless you are OK with taking your RV to the shows in Branson, the shopping center and the ice cream store for dessert, I would highly recommend bringing along a tow. Once you are at the Canyon you will absolutely want the tow as there are so many places to go and see it will be much more convenient (and cheaper) to make these drives in the a car.

If your traveling with pets, you might want to take the toad. It will must likely we warm/hot weather, and you could leave the pets in an air conditioned RV, while you sightsee. As mentioned above when you get to the Grand Canyon you can only take the shuttle. You can use the toad to get to the canyon from where you are camped. Visiting other places you visit, parking the RV might be difficult.

Hear are a couple of links to more to see and do.

We did this on the last trip to the canyon. They have entertainers in the car. Also did the guided bus tour of the south rim. The guide showed us things you will never see otherwise.

You can drive your car but there is a FREE shuttle service.

“A free shuttle bus system operates in the Grand Canyon Village area. Make your visit easier and save fuel by parking your car and using the shuttle to get around.”

Flagstaff has many things to see and do and it is only a short way from the canyon. Things like The Petrified forest, Painted Desert,

Don’t forget Albuquerque NM and old town.

Santa Fe is only about 70 miles north.

I am working this from the wrong direction I know but Amarillo TX

We stayed hear easy in /out Fun service was we didn’t have to unhook the car to go eat. There was Free limo service to the Big Tex Steak house.

You didn’t say what route you will take from Branson but the most direct is 40.

You should be able to make OK city in one day don’t have much experience staying there.

Most of the places I have listed are a day apart I don’t like to drive to far in a day 350 miles is long enough.

We stayed in Williams and took the train up to the canyon fun trip.

Lots to see in a short time. Just me but I would get west as fast as I could there is weeks of things to do and see around the canyon.

Bill

PS: TAKE THE TOAD

I just wanted to take time to say a big thank-you to everyone for your information. This will be our first "big" trip and all your advice was appreciated.

Thanks again;

Bob & Bobbie
