tomcypress Report post Posted April 26, 2015 We are going to Maine, Bar Harbor in July 15 from Ocala Fl. & then to Niagara Falls, Looking for the best routes! Thanks Tom!
obedb Report post Posted May 1, 2015 From Ocala I prefer 301 north to A1A to join I-95 above Jacksonville. Try to get through the DC/Baltimore mess between rush hours and the afternoon rush starts earlier on Fridays. Run around NYC on I-287, joining the NY Thruway for a short distance on your way to the Tappanzie Toll Bridge. Continue east to rejoin 95. North through Connecticut on 95 is always really busy until you get above New Haven. I always run around Providence on I-295 rejoining 95 north of the city. You do not want to go through Boston. Stay on 95 around the west side of the city. Once you get above Boston into Cow Hampshire the ride is usually enjoyable. Maine is usually a pleasure to travel in. Be sure to have reservations because Maine is the destination from NYC and north for summer vacations. If you really want stretch things out, there other routes that will add many miles to your trip. By the way/ I always enjoy 301 & A1A. Old Florida!
jleamont Report post Posted May 4, 2015 Tom, Just as ObedB stated, once you cross the Tappanzie bridge DO NOT get on rt15 (Merritt Parkway). The parkway is a beautiful ride in a car but the bridges are low (9-10'). It's well posted but a GPS will most likely try and send you that way. Safe travels. Ralombardi Report post Posted May 5, 2015 You want to avoid the DC/Balt and NJ/NYC area!! Most pleasant trip is I95 to VA, route 17N (Fredericksburg) to I66, to I81, to I84, to I90, to I495, to I95/I195. It isn't as complicated as it sounds and you'll enjoy the trip. Having lived in/around DC & NJ I can tell you it can be a very stressful trip in a motorhome ( even in car at times).
odellc1 Report post Posted May 6, 2015 Take a look at the route using the New York Thruway/I-87North. And then connect with the Mass. Pike which intersects just south of Albany. It is an easy ride with no multi lanes coming in from all directions. The Mass Pike heads west towards Boston and you can travel north from this point. The NY Thruway (I-87) is a direct north route AND is MUCH less stressful than zigging & zagging around NYC and into Connecticut on I-95. Be aware this route does add more miles to the trio. We live in the southern part of NY & travel I-87 frequently. We also are going to Bar Harbor in July-FMCA trip. Safe travels.

Thanks Tom! This is how I travel from MA, avoiding the poke-along and park on the 95 corridor. A few miles long but sooooooo much less stress. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Ocala,+FL/Bar+Harbor,+ME/@40.5614434,-75.9007475,7.25z/data=!4m24!4m23!1m15!1m1!1s0x88e62b541cba3ce5:0xf5f53be4b1380536!2m2!1d-82.1400923!2d29.1871986!3m4!1m2!1d-79.6100158!2d37.6106011!3s0x884cdbd703dbb5ff:0x6200694e5b0ef905!3m4!1m2!1d-74.9911116!2d42.5202008!3s0x89dbf512b293bac7:0xd785269d7c32eea!1m5!1m1!1s0x4caebe4815802593:0x88e91a6528cad91b!2m2!1d-68.2039123!2d44.3876119!3e0

dbenoit Report post Posted June 29, 2017 Once in Maine, if you like a more scenic ride (and longer) get off I95 in Portland and get on I295 then get off in Freeport and take Rt1 then Rt3 to Bar Harbor. We use this route from NH all the time. Check it out on the map. Also mostly all the campgrounds on Mt Desert Island have a free shuttle to Bar Harbor. We always stay at the Bar Harbor Oceanside KOA, right after the bridge. Free Shuttle: http://www.exploreacadia.com/

rickkey2 Report post Posted July 21, 2017 We were in Schoodic Woods C.O E in Maine across from Bar Harbor in Winter Harbor and it was just beautiful. We were there from June 30 thru July 6 and I will never go to Bar Harbor again to crazy . Schoodic is peaceful and all big pull through sites. Cost 150.00 for 6 days with America the beautiful pass. Schoodic point is breath taking . We are now in Reed Bingham State Park in Adel GA working our way home back to Marathon in the Florida Keys and this is a five star park. 33.00 per night with 50 amp, cable, water and sewer. SWEET.
