  2. Just a heads up statement as it relates to purchasing tires through Camping World. As we have a 2003 motor home, in the spring of 2009 we started considering the purchase of new road tires. I had contacted a Goodyear Truck Tire Dealer, (with 20+ stores), and spoke to them about replacement with Goodyear tires. Goodyear did not have that size, but had an optional tire size that was useable and during the conversation. asked if they could purchase Michelin RV tires, the answer was "yes" and quoted a price that was less that the Goodyear tires. I made an appointment for the installation and later in the day called "Camping World" to see what their price was, they were just short of one hundred dollars more per tire times six. When I told them of the quoted price elsewhere, the store managers response was, "that's cheaper than I can buy them for". So I guess the answer is, shop around................
  3. Can only state that per the 2010 Motor Home tow guide that, the MKX & MKX AWD are towable to a top speed of 65 mph, but,as per guide, should be started for 5 minutes at each fuel stop. The guide also states the same for our 2009 Escape but as per our owners manual, no mention is made to either the speed limitation and or the required 5 minute run time at each fill up. The dealer should be able to answer this question, but I would want to see it in writing as provided by Ford Motor Co.
  4. We have been going to Acadia/Bar Harbor area for our annual vacation for the last 20+ years. Much to see and enjoy, but most only scratch the surface as they do not allow enough time to see the area. There are so many eateries serving lobster on Mt. Desert Island/Acadia that it would be hard to pin point just one. One point of interest, we enjoy, is Schoodic Point. This is part of the Acadia National Park. I could go on and on about what to see and what to avoid, but will cut it short............
  5. We have a gas motor home and had towed with a tow dolly until last year. We looked into the M&G tow system but it was not available for the 2009 Ford Ecsape, so we looked elsewhere. We choose the Brakemaster system, is expensive, but works well. For some reason we did not look at the US Gear system, at the time, for whatever reason, thought the system was for diesel powered only. O'boy, live and learn. Note: if you are not careful, you will learn something new everyday..........

  7. That info is posted in a "trucker's highway maps", that is available in most book stores. That same info has been listed, in the past, in the "Motor Home'" magazine. Maybe available on their website.

  9. We are planning to trip to the Detroit/Dearborn Michigan area to visit the Henry Ford Museum and Dearborn Village. We are looking for campgrounds in the area, have looked in reference material and online but none look to promising. So we are requesting others to enlighten us on your experiences or knowledge on the subject of cgs. Also requesting info on the travel route through Canada from Niagara Falls to the Detroit area, or maybe the Port Huron area would be a better choice for the crossing back into the USA. Looks to be a more direct route and bypasses all the large US cities on the US travel route. But Note: We must have bad luck as we have crossed the Canadian border twice in the last fifteen years and both times our vehicles were checked out from top to bottom. Makes one not want to travel into Canada.........

We have over 55 years of camping in one form or another off and on until 1995. 1995 was our first rv, and have upgraded, over the years to our present MH.   12. We have a Workhorse chassis and we have had a "Super Steer" sway bar installed on our 2003 motor home when it was brand new. We were told the same nonsense but let me tell you that the sway bar does the job. Not cheap, but what is in dealing with a motor home........... The sway condition is refered to as; "the tail wagging the dog." We had "Camping World" do the install. Personally, I would highly recommend the rear sway bar installation.........works for us.
  13. When we purchased our motor home new, in 2003, the body sway was very bad, especially when an eighteen wheeler passed in either direction. The ride also left a lot to be desired, the bounce was also bad. Mind you this is a brand new unit. After some investigating, and talking to others, we found that Workhorse had used another brand of shocks on some of their chassis, and ours was one of them. With twelve hundred miles on it, the original shocks were removed and four new "Bilsteins" were installed.....what difference. The sway, from passing trucks improved, but was still somewhat present. At this point we had a steering stabilizer installed, "safety steer," and had a "Super Steer" rear stabilizer bar installed. Now the crosswind/trailer truck sway is non-existant. I personally believe that the rear sway bar is what corrected the problems. Last summer we left Maine for Prince Edward Island, Canada and ran into not one but two downgraded hurricanes, but the wind and rain was very strong. The driving was not good, but we got through okay, thanks to the installed improvements.
  14. My guess, and it's only a guess, is that the tank is an expansion tank for the Aqua-Hot system.
  15. We have been going to this part of Maine for the last 20+ years, and have stayed in a few of the Rv parks at one time or another. Some we did not even give a second look. The one we have been using for the last five years is: Timberland Acres which is on Route 3 south of Ellsworth. Most are pull through sites that are long with plenty of space. One draw back is the sites are in the open, without shade. The sites are full hookup but without cable tv. The campground is about twenty to thirty minutes from downtown Bar Habor and Acadia Nat'l Park. But is close to Ellsworth, within ten minutes, with banking, supermarkets, resturants, Home Depot, Tractor Supply and a new Walmart. Acadia Nat'l Park has much to offer no matter what your interest. Give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the area. If you would like more info, we maybe able to answer your questions.

  17. Have a 2003 Holiday Rambler Vacationer and the dash heater/ac motor will not run now and then. The no run problem is not consistant, in other words the problem is present now and then. When the motor will not run the light in the heater/ac/temperature panel, on the dash will illuminate if the fan speed switch is on. If one is to turn the heat/ac/defroster control switch on/off quickly, it will sometimes start running. Most times it starts when it wants to. Most times if you start it when you first start out, as if using the ac, it will run until you shut it off or shut it down, as if you were re-fueling the coach. If you just leave it alone, in the "on" position, the motor will start running somewhere down the road. My thoughts on the "no-run" situation is; that the bush(es), within the motor, are not making good contact with the motor armature, as if a bush(es) failure and the circuit is going to ground through the panel light bulb. I have a strong automotive/electric background, and have worked a number of years, years ago, as a mechanic of cars, trucks, and buses. Just wondering if anyone has had this same problem, your experiences may be the answer to my problem......thanks.......

  19. Brackets for the id plates are available @ twelve $ a pair plus shipping and handling on the FMCA ID plate order form. The brackets mount on the motorhome's ladder.
  20. We have had wet carpet(s) in our motor home, due to leaks in a slide, leak in the windshield, and we used a wet vac to remove the liquid. At this point our carpet is just damp, and now we used a small electric fan to total dry the area. It does take some time with the fan but it did work for us.......good luck.....
  21. We have used both the dolly and the four wheel down tow systems. We were very good at loading and unloading the car while using the dolly, but the 4 wheel down system does seem to be easier and quicker to hookup and unhook. We still have the tow dolly, in storage, but at this point we are towing a 2009 Ford Escape XLT AWD. We purchased the bar system and brake system from Camping World, and they did the installation. We chose the Escape because for 2009 they are towable without any modification. Works for us...........
  22. We are also new to FMCA, but have been camping,on and off, for over 55 years. Have been regularly camping for the last 20+ years of the 55 years. We are great lovers of the State of Maine, and have been spending our annual vacations there for over 20 years. We graduated quickly from a two man pup-tent to: 15ft trailer, 26ft 5'er, 36ft 5'er, and to a 37 ft. class A in 13 years. We are very sure that there will be information located here to enlighten us, and look forward to an opportunity that we may be of help to others. To all we say "hello", and a wish of happy safe travels, and many enjoyable hours of rving.........
