  1. I view the website on my Android phone.  The site used to show links to some of the popular or latest topics on the forum on the main page, but these are no longer there?  Any reasoning why this easy access has disappeared?

  2. Ok, lets say this was the national Edsel club (I just picked this randomly, I have no affiliation).  Face it, they are not making anymore of these cars, and occasionally one gets destroyed or falls apart due to neglect, so there are fewer of them every year.  What if someone said, "since there are fewer of us in this club, maybe we should allow other cars, like Mustangs into the club to increase membership".  It's also a Ford product, and these owners have similar interests (classic cars), so what would be the problem in allowing them?  Are we snobs and think our Edsel's are better than mustangs? No, just that we were founded to support Edsel owners, and allowing another model would dilute this mission.

Hope this helps you understand where I'm coming from.

Plus, I didn't like how this was "sold" to the membership, that we must vote yes for this change to "save" FMCA.  The organization would have done just fine with small changes to benefits or dues increase.  I don't usually subscribe to conspiracy theorys, but looking back, this was written on the wall, back when the website was changed to announce "under construction".

  3. To answer the original question, no, we do not have any weapons, except for a compound and recurve bow for one if my kids. Not knocking you folks who choose to have one (or several), just never felt the need.

The most threatened we ever felt since my parents began motorhoming in the 1960s, was when a drunk homeless person tried to board our Fitzjohn coach, thinking it was a commercial bus.  Our min-pin (dog), bit him on the finger, and scared him away.

  4. I agree with previous posts, I looks like refunds for unused days is the exception, not the rule.  Still no excuse for explaining the policy to you in a rude way.

May I suggest you put a review for this park in at this site:

    www.rvparkreviews.com.

Lots of people read these reviews, and your info might prove useful.

  5. I agree with the previous statements about where people take their vacations.

I'm 51, with wife and 16 year old son.  we take 1-2 out of state vacations a year, which last about a week each, and all other getaways in the motorhome are in-state for a long weekend or two.

No time to commit to a national convention (although I will check out Gillette next year and see if there is a compelling reason to go), or even a local chapter event.

    What year was that?

There was a survey/questionair done in the magazine, several years ago.  It asked questions about type of coach, do you travel with kids, age, occupation (before retirement), average income, etc.  It was used at the time to compare the current FMCA member to the membership in the 1960s,.  I might still have some 2008 magazines, so I'll take a look.

Part of my problem with the whole thing is the one sided promotion of the deal.  I was at the six state rally this week and the comments from the podium were a distinctive we need you to vote yes on this, with no time given to any opposing view.

I agree, same thing with the website and magazine.  Usually, when asked to vote on something, I'm given the pros, and the arguments against.  Not in this case.  All we heard was "this must be done to save FMCA!", And This is all wonderful and positive, with no opposing viewpoint.

Okay folks, I have a few suggestions which could help FMCA be a motor coach club in the fashion I would like it become.

First, lets update the logo. It looks old and tired, which means others viewing will also feel it is for an older and tired group. The logo needs redesigned to meet the dynamic of today's rving family. Something in color and alive, something that screams to the "family" market come join us, it will be a good time.

Second, start having family rallies which occur during a Friday evening, Saturday, and end on a Sunday. Do face painting, have a petting zoo, hire a local singer to sing songs which are conducive to a family get together, and rent one of those blow up movie screens and have a movie night with an ice cream social. Make it real family outing so every member of the family can enjoy the outing. Of course a few coaches available for a day so everyone can see what is new in the market.

Third, go to rental locations which offer RV rentals and get the word out to them, big time. Many people rent coaches before buying, so get the bug in their ear of all of the benefits FMCA has to offer the coach owner. Look to independent RV sales locations and place flyers out or ask the finance people to include a brochure with the closing of the coach deal. They might not remember what was said right at the moment, but the owner can sit down later and read the benefits of FMCA.

Fourth, stop doing pop-up ads on Facebook. They are not reaching the demographic you are hoping to reach. You want to strategically place ads on TV in the middle of RV shows, such as the ones on Great American Country, or GAC, on Dish Network.  Make sure the ads are after a family purchases a class A coach, and have the ads stress how much more fun it would be to take your new coach to an event in your local area.

Okay, I'll stop for now, as I have an appointment to get to. I would like to make a motion that this vote be tabled until such time other options can be explored by the FMCA committee for expanding its membership, using some of the suggestions brought forward contained here within. Okay, so I know its too late for this now, but the suggestions are worth at least considering

Thanks for your time, it is greatly appreciated.

    Good suggestions!  Here's more...

Offer discounts or free night stays to Jellystone Parks (where mostly families with kids stay) when you sign up with FMCA.  Let's work with Jellystone to have FMCA flyers in each office.

How about a 10% discount to Six Flags Amusement parks or other amusement parks.

BTW, in Denver, B&B RV rentals is an FMCA Commercial member.  They have the logo prominently displayed in the window.

  9. I agree with everyone else, make sure your propane is full and run the propane heat system.

Been traveling in Colorado a few times in temps in the 20s.  Our system continued to work fine, but one time got an ice blockage in the water pump.  Next time I will have some type of small heat source in that area.

  10. Actually, we have had two class A coaches (32' ad 33') since the mid-1990s, and never had a towed.  We do take the coach to town to do shopping, and take it sightseeing and most destinations.  We might consider it, if/when we full-time, but not on our current week-long, and weekend trips.

  11. That was a good post from fagnaml!

A couple things to add to the selling point for FMCA: the magazine does contain good knowledgeable info for motorhome owners on proper care and maintenance.  Also, Sam's club members get either $10.00 or $30.00 back when they renew.

Minor issues, to be sure, but I always like to ask a motorhome owner when was the last time they weighed their coach.  Most have never done so, and I point out (nicely), that their tires may not be inflated to the correct pressure, and I learned that from FMCA.

Maybe I could look up the information on line but there's not a chance I would be saving 10 years worth of of any kind of magazine!  Glad it works for you.  Heck, when I did renew my membership last year they never even sent a single magazine.  Not sure what the membership benefits includes these days but I don't see where I received even 1.

I save them so I can take them to the doctors office and leave them for others to read.  They seem to get snapped up pretty quickly.

Wish the vote tally was higher!
