Hi, everybody, from Alberta
berginaperzina replied to carsten.schwark@shaw.ca's topic in All About You
Good for you, we are similar started in tents, sleeper vans and finally Class A Motor Homes. You have many years of fun and enjoyment ahead of you in the motor home as it does not get much better than having one. We still work also but only for a couple more years, we want to retire by 61 or 62 and have more time to take trips. Try to take a 3 or 4 week trip a year and really makes the rest of the year much better. Enyoy PS, I love your kitty, does he travel with you? We have a Siamese and he loves the trips in the motor home -
Hi. We are Joe and Karen we have been camping for about 35 years. We started in a tent, moved up to a sleeper van, rented motor homes and finally purchased a 1996 Pace Arrow that we enjoyed until February of this year. This year we purchased a 2007 National RV TropiCal that is 36' long, has three slideouts and runs on diesel. It was a great deal, as it had never been sold and National went out of business. We love camping in the western states and we especially love Oregon. We really enjoy going to Collier State Park in Oregon -- it is a great place to relax and have fun. The campsite has full hookups and is awsome. It's right by the river and the fishing is great! Nothing like cooking fish outdoors and enjoying the peace of it all. We also really like Wyoming, Texas, Utah, Colorado and so on .... Looking forward to Summer... Oregon for four weeks with the family and our 4-year-old grandson. We have a 2007 National RV, Tropical Diesel Pusher with a Freightliner Chassis and a Caterpillar engine, it is extremely roomy and comfortable so we figure it will carry us through our retirement. We still both work but when we do retire in a couple of years we are planning to travel for a three or four months at a time, camp, meet people, have fun and then come home check out the house, see the family for a while and off again, and hopefully some of the time the family will come to us and we can all have fun together.

We have been traveling with our cat for many years now and he loves it! At this time we have an 8 year old Siamese and he loves it! Before him we have traveled with 2 other cats and they liked it also. We put kitty in a cat carrier that is on a stroller, we bought it online at a cat site. The carrier is heavy cloth in the back with a window and the front half is mesh for a view, it attaches to a base that has 4 wheels. We put him in the carrier in between us and use a bunji cord to secure the carrier on both sides, when we first take off he comments a bunch for the first 10 miles or so and then he curls up, and sleeps. At the campsite he has the run of the motorhome (he is an indoor kitty) he loves to sleep in one of the cabinets where the blankets are and he loves to sit in the big window up front and watch chipmunks and fun stuff. The litter box is not a problem we keep it in a corner by the shower and we just make sure to clean it several time a day, a couple of times a day we take him for a walk through the campsite in his stroller and people laugh - it is a great way to meet people and pass the time chatting. Often when we are sitting around at the campsite we will bring him out in his carrier to sit with us and enjoy the birds or chipmunks. Cats are great in motorhomes because they are fun, good company, sleep allot and are self entertaining, we can not imagine travelling without kitty.

[We travel to Oregon almost every year and it is a wonderfull trip! You should go on the Oregon State Parks and request their Parks Guide. All of the coastal parks we have stayed at have been great and we keep going back because it is so peacefull and enjoyable. If you want to go somewhat further north from Seaside it is worth it to go to Fort Stevens State Park it is 10 miles W of Astoria at the mouth of the Columbia River, it has 174 full hookups, and 302 electrical. There is a historic military sith with meseum and remnants of a military fort also the remains of the Peter Iredale shipwreck. It is a very fun park, lots of hiking too. The next thing we love to do is go to the lighthouses some have tours and it is fun and interesting to see them. Umpqua Lighthouse state park is also worth going to, they have a very good tour of a wonderfull lighthouse, if you dont want to stay in the state park a bit further down is Winchester Bay, a great seaside town there we always stay at the Marina RV Resort and ask for a spot right on the water. We travel in a 2007 National RV Tropical that is 37 feet long and have not had any problems traveling up and down the Oregon 101. Previos to that we had a 1998 Pace Arrow that was 36' and also no problem.

Blue Ox all the way, it is so easy to use, we had never towed a vehicle and we got the Blue Ox, first time it took less than 10 minutes to hook up.

Can anyone recommend some nice full hookup parks in Tombstone and The Carlsbad Cavern areas? We are thinking of taking a trip there and we just wondered if anyone had stayed at places they really liked? Thanks

For myself I must report the the greatest ever was when I dropped having a regular Internet connection and began to use the Verizon Wireless Key. It seems to work almost everywhere I go as they have a lot of towers. I have used it in Oregon in very tree-laden parks as well as on the beach and have had no trouble! Have also used it in Utah, Wyoming and Texas with good results. I like it so much that I use it on my home computer and on my laptop both.

One of the best and most relaxing parks that we have ever been in is Collier State Park in Oregon. Plenty of very roomy full hookup spots including some pull throughs. The Park is very clean, very quiet and very enjoyable. They have a laundry room with washers and dryers, and the showers, if you choose to use them have lots of hot water. The best part is that the park is by the river. Several times a day, or all day if you want, you can go fishing or just walk and enjoy the fabulous scenery. They have a logging museum with very interesting and very old machinery. Plus, it is easy to drive to Crater Lake for a day. I would definitely recommend this park to anyone.

My husband made one for our RV using a nice wood tv tray that had edges around it so that things dont get knocked off. He removed the tv table legs and replaced them with solid wood ones that had a pattern on them (he got at Home Depot) when traveling we just turn it upside down and put it on the couch. We just put it between the couch and the recliner and we both can use it.

I would get plenty of pictures of the poor quality work on the roof ones with dates on them, then I would contact the insurance that paid the bill and send them the pictures. Probably they would want to make the repair center stand behind the job? If not I would think that you could go to small claims court? Good luck and have a fun summer traveling because no matter what there is nothing like traveling in an RV.

Thanks to those of you who offered encouragement, especially the recommendation for some good dealers/shops. Yeah that is is summer and yes, we will now put this behind us and at the end of July we are going to take a 3 to 4 week trip to the Rogue River in Oregon. Collier State Park can't recommend it enough, right by the river, the fishing is awsome! We have been going there for 20 years, frequently run in to other rvers we have befriended and we always find it very relaxing and very fun. This year our grandson who is almost 4 is coming for the first time with his mom and dad, can't wait! You are right from now on everything is in writing... :

We are just posting this hoping that it might help someone else purchasing a new motorhome from falling into the same problem. In Feb we purchased a new 36' National RV Tropical for Giant RV in Colton CA. They were all friendly and helpfull while we were looking and deciding but they seemed very much in a hurry for us to make the deal. Finally we did but with the agreement that they would take the RV and fill it with diesel before we picked it up and we would pay for the fuel. On the day we picked it up they had filled it and we left, about a week later we went on a 3 day trip during which we needed to re-fuel so we went to a truck stop and proceeded to start pumping. Right away about half of the diesel going in started backsplashing onto my husbands hand and the ground, we would up taking about 25 minutes to fill very very slowly. Upon our return we took the RV back to the dealer and told him of the problem and that it had been delivered to us in that condition, oh, he said we don't stand behind that it is not a coach problem use your extended warranty and go to this particular repair shop. He also said be sure not to go to LA Freightliner they do not treat the custumers well, we woud up going to LA Freightliner any way as the one that he told us about was only open 8-5 Mon to Fri. (very handy). At LA Freight they told us that the vent pipe was defective, they tried to call the extended warranty plan but they would not cover it, so I began calling everyone from a vice president on down at the dealer and I was told oh, no, we do not stand behind the products of companies that have gone bankrupt, (National RV did). I then said that during the sale we were told that if we purchased the warranty it would cover anything that National RV warranty would have. The jist of this is the dealer was dishonest and did not care, we are never going back there and LA Freightliner whom they told us not to go to was wonderfull, they even called Freightliner as that is what our chassis is they explained our problem and how we were being treated by the dealer and Freightliner payed the repair. Just be careful to get in writing what the dealer will stand behind and what the warranty will stand behind before you take the coach off of the lot. Granted we should not have fallen in this as we have owned rvs for 20 years but oh well..
