Ditto for me.

The problem could be that you replaced it with a Norcold cooling unit instead of an Amish cooling unit. Most people report great performance with the Amish unit. This is what I plan to do if mine goes out (knock on wood). Norcold seems to have a hard time getting it right. I had the most recent recall fix done in the Fall of 2010 and I have received 3 recall notices from Norcold since then. The most recent being this past week (for the same recall). This doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Don

Those are excellent reasons Brett. Does oil acidify within a year or so or is it the moisture problem? Don
-
Due to a plethora of reasons, including rotator cuff surgery, healing, recovery, etc. our coach will have traveled less than 1,000 miles by the end of this year. Bummer. I know I have been told that the oil should be changed annually, regardless of usage. First, is this really necessary, and if so, why? I don't change the oil myself so this ends up being an expense that is more noticeable when there is almost no road time to show for it. We have a Cummins 400 ISL and I have had the oil changed annually since we got the coach, as directed. Is it ever acceptable to skip a year if there is almost no usage? Don

Brett, Those are great photos. Especially of the whale breaches. Thanks. We are planning a cruise next year about this time. We have decided to forego taking the motorhome due to uncertain road conditions and the fact I don't want to get it banged up. Don

So, you used Sodium Dichlor? Or did you use bleach? Don
-
Does anyone have an opinion about using Sodium Dichlor instead of household bleach? I read the article below which is referenced on this forum that said it is just as, or maybe more, effective than bleach. It is highly concentrated so you use one teaspoonful for a 100 gallon tank. http://rvbasics.com/techtips/sanitizing-your-rv-fresh-water-system.html Don

Consider staying at Grand Canyon Trailer Village. It is inside the Grand Canyon National Park. Older but the convenience is worth it. There are shuttle buses that take you from the RV park entrance to the rim of the canyon which is about 1/4 mile away. We prefer the IH-10 route to IH-17. We avoid IH-40 whenever we can. Way too many rude and dangerous truck drivers. IH-10 has its share too but not nearly as many. Stress level is better on the southern route. And, there are hundreds of wind turbines to occupy your viewing time in West Texas! One advantage to the IH-40 route is stopping at the Petrified Forest/Painted Desert between Gallup, NM and Albuquerque. I saw these as a child but really enjoyed seeing them again a year or so ago. I re-booted the computer this morning and started some new sessions. When I got onto FMCA site it did not recognize me but when I clicked on Forums it did. Back to the home page still no recognition. Go figure. Don

I have to agree with PHE. It surprises me that Jon796 stated (as a former LEO) that it is illegal to carry a handgun across state lines. That is absolutely false. If you have a Concealed Carry License in a state that issues such, there are MANY other states that have a reciprocity which allows your license to be legal outside of your home state. You can Google this, as previously suggested, to verify. I ordered a booklet which gives all the states which reciprocate with other states. It is worth your while to obtain this book. Here is a reference to the Texas Concealed Carry Law and states that reciprocate. Other states have the same type of statement as to reciprocity. http://www.txdps.sta...reciprocity.htm Be careful out there. Don

Campgrounds For Grand Canyon Trip
akadeadeye replied to DavidWhite's question in Destinations/Attractions
I have to disagree with Janvlen. We stayed at Grand Canyon Trailer Village which is within the National Park and about 1/4 mile from the rim of the canyon. It was just fine. It was not expensive. About $36. Not an ideal resort, but my goodness, how much closer to the canyon can you get? They even have a shuttle which comes to the park every 15 to 30 minutes to pick you up and take you to the rim. And, it is not dirty, as stated. Also, a previous poster stated that Williams, AZ is only 30 miles away from the canyon. Not true. It is 59 miles away. Check it out on Google maps. Just trying to help and provide some facts. Don -
Well, maybe I spoke too soon. I clicked on the FMCA site tonight and it did not recognize me. And, I agree with Bill, it won't let me sign out after I do get in. Don
-
Yes, it works great for me now. Thanks, tmoning Don

In the last few weeks, every time I bring up the FMCA webpage It does not recognize me automatically like it did a month or so ago. Nothing has changed with any of my three computers and I have the same result with all three. I have communicated with the web master and he told me it must be my computer that is at fault. I can assure the staff that all of my computers are set to accept cookies and the FMCA cookies show up as being active. And yet, every time I choose FMCA I have to re-enter my user name and password. I did not have to do this a month ago. Is anyone else having this problem? Don

We're Not Getting Any Younger ...
akadeadeye replied to bernhardbus@verizon.net's topic in Modifications
There are many modifications out there. Newmar makes a Canyon Star gas model with full wheelchair accessibility. They made 3 Allstar diesels several years ago, including ours, but cut off production due to economic difficulties but are now geared up to resume production in a gas unit and more affordable. Check out this link. There is bound to be an increasing demand for this type of accessibility as we all age even if we are not in wheelchairs and especially if we are. I applaud Newmar and any other manufacturer for tooling up for this. I hope they sell enough to justifty continued production. We are questioned all the time when we travel as to the availability of such a unit. Don -
I have not taken the tests yet to get my Class B license but I called the DPS office in a smaller town to ask the procedure and talked to a delightful lady who told me how she administered the driving test. I told her I didn't have a license but had been driving our MH for a while and I was concerned about how to "legally" drive it to the test location. She said, "well, honey, don't worry about it. How else would you get it here?" That's where I will take my test! Don

Uneven Tire Tread Wear on Tow Dolly
akadeadeye replied to akadeadeye's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Herman, I called the place where I bought the dolly and they said it could be a wheel bearing problem. What do you think? Don -
Someone told me trailer tires are not typically balanced when you buy a trailer. My tires did not have balancing lead on the wheels when I bought the tow dolly new. Now, after 10,000 miles, there is noticeable uneven tire wear on each tire. I have been good keeping them inflated at the correct pressure (50psi). Is this problem a balancing issue only or is there something going on with the tow dolly? Don

New To Tow Dollies, Don't Understand?
akadeadeye replied to Ultratravler's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Hello Bill, Are you saying a dolly is unnecessary under any condittions? Don -
Brett, Did you need a booster antennae for the toad sensors? Don
-
Just a slight correction to your website reference Herman, it is http://rvparkreviews.com and we use it every time we travel. Good resource, but remember, it does not list every available rv park. Only those that have been reviewed by someone. We supplement our search with Woodall's. I have it as an app on my iPhone and we have the book. We have toyed with not making any reservations at all......anywhere, and just going with the flow. If we can't get in somewhere, just find a place to boondock for the night and try again tomorrow. We haven't yet tried this but I know a couple of people who do this and they are considerably less stressed than I since they don't have to be anywhere at any particular time. They have said they have very rarely not been able to find a campsite somewhere. Don

Bill, Fine one day, bad the next morning. I left nothing on. I did not do the voltage test to see if the voltage dropped while cranking but I ended up replacing the battery and all is fine now. Just a little disappointed that a 2008 battery on a Chevy Suburban is already dead. Don
-
I am sure I will get some good answers to this question. This concerns one of our toad vehicles. Yesterday morning I turned the key, barely a crank, then dead. Clock was dead, etc. Jumped the battery and took it to Auto Zone for testing. The vehicle is a 2008. Auto Zone man tested battery is good. 12.78v with no charge and 14.7 with the engine running. He ran further tests and said my starter was going out. Took it to dealer. They said starter was fine, alternator fine, battery bad. Confirmed 12.7v but had lost its cranking power. Rated for 615, but showed 360. I don't understand. How can the battery show good voltage but lose its cranking power? Don
-
You are correct. We are talking about two different places. Don
