I'm looking at a new car to tow, either the Equinox or the Traverse both 2020s. In researching the requirements I see that tow speed should not exceed 65mph. Under normal conditions this is not an issue. However, I can see times when a higher speed may be required. Has anyone had issues with either of these vehicles?

From Fiat Chrysler: The 2019 Jeep Cherokee (4x4 models with two-speed power transfer unit) can be flat towed behind a motorhome. The vehicle does NOT require the Mopar flat tow wiring harness, which was developed for 2014-2018 models to prevent the wobble that sometimes occurred during flat towing. The owners manual can be found here: https://www.mopar.com/jeep/en-us/care/owners-manual.html Side note: A service bulletin issued on April 20, 2018, indicated that the Mopar flat tow wiring harness was needed for 2019 Cherokee. However, Fiat Chrysler has acknowledged that the service bulletin was in error.

New information has emerged regarding the flat towability of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra and 2019 Hyundai Veloster, so please take note. In September 2018, a Hyundai Motor America official confirmed to FMCA that the 2019 Hyundai Accent, 2019 Elantra, and 2019 Veloster models, when equipped with manual transmission, are flat towable behind a motorhome, and all three vehicles were included in the “2019 Towing Lineup” published in the January 2019 issue of Family RVing. Hyundai owners manuals typically include no information about recreational towing. However, we now know that the 2019 Elantra owners manual says the vehicle is not designed to be towed four wheels down behind a motorhome, which contradicts Hyundai’s earlier statement to FMCA. FMCA is seeking clarification from Hyundai, and when the company responds, I will post it on the Forums. Meanwhile, as of today (May 8, 2019), it appears that no company has created a base plate for the 2019 Elantra or the 2019 Veloster, according to checks of the websites of Blue Ox, Demco, and Roadmaster. (Roadmaster has created a base plate for 2019 Accent.) A Roadmaster official said that sometimes a customer is adamant that a vehicle is flat towable, and so Roadmaster designs a base plate for the customer’s vehicle, even without proper flat-towing documentation from the vehicle manufacturer. (The customer must agree not to hold Roadmaster responsible for transmission problems.) Roadmaster follows up with the customer, and if no problems occur after a reasonable amount of time/towing mileage, Roadmaster markets the baseplate/vehicle as towable.

Hi, Prefer to Flat tow a toad but open to suggestions to modify car or ??? I'm tired of flat towing boring and uncomfortable cars... Time for a change... I'd love to tow a late 90's MBz SL500, or an SL380 or SL450 (all rear wheel drive)? I figure as they are automatic, wish MBz made manuals, (but nothing since the old Diesels & wagons) they are a no go! I also like late 90's Jaguar convertibles… similar issues (no manuals)(rear wheel drive)… so I think that the tow dolly is not an option! Are there any mods that can be made to make it any of these work apart from a flat bed trailer. As a third choice how about a classic 60's or 70's car (preferably manual) as a toad? But that would cost more than my budget unless I can get lucky! Yeah right! :-( Being retired and on SSI I've got a limited budget. I'd like to keep the cost to $5000 or LESS!!! Or trade my clean 1998 Honda CRV with new paint and an replacement engine with less than 90k on it. Would love to hear any suggestions for a car (convertible).. or tow method... or car mod...! Thanks to everyone in advance for your time.

A search of the Subaru website for the word "towing" on Oct 5, 2016 http://www.subaru.com/customer-support.html Found the following Q&A: Q "What recommendations does Subaru have about towing my vehicle behind a motor home?" A "Please follow the recommendations outlined in the Owner's Manual if there is a need to tow a Subaru vehicle. The best way to transport your vehicle is a flatbed tow truck with ALL wheels off the ground. Always follow the precautions and recommendations outlined in the Owner's Manual if flat towing with all wheels on the ground is unavoidable in an emergency situation." We have been flat towing our 2003 Subaru Forester (5 speed manual trans) with four wheels on the ground since 2004 behind three different Class A RVs (one gas, two diesel) for many thousand miles with no problems or incidents. Falcon Roadmaster # 5250 towbar.

Does anyone have experience flat towing a Ford C-Max Energi, or the regular hybrid? How does the push button start affect the steering lock while being towed? Is there sufficient ground clearance? Are there other things to consider? Thanks. Tom

I recently acquired a well kept 1992 Jeep Comanche (Cherokee) pick-up truck. It is a 2 wheel rear drive with a standard "stick-shift" transmission powered by a 4.0L, 6 cylinder engine. I am trying to obtain a definitive answer (rather than an opinion) answer as to whether it is "flat" or "four wheels down". I would like to tow it behind my class A motorhome without a dolly, trailer, driveline disconnect, etc. I would use a commercial base plate and tow bar, etc. I continue to get wildly divergent opinions from all of the "experts". Invariably they are inserting their personal preferences as to using a trailer, a dolly, driveline disconnect, etc. I am also getting different opinions (not facts) from participants in the various Jeep Forums on the internet. My local Jeep dealer won't commit one way or the other. The folks at Remco say they don't have any negative reports with the 5 speed stick, but can't say for sure. The 1999 FMCA "Toad" document indicates the equivalent Cherokee in 1999 was flat towable, but doesn't indicate if that was for a standard or automatic transmission, or if for a 2WD or a 4WD. If anyone has actually flat towed a 1984-2001 Jeep Cherokee with a 2 wheel drive standard transmission, please offer any suggestions you might have. Thank you!
