Pilot Flying J Transactions

Recommended Posts

Well, at the Flyin J I used the RV lane and there was no where on the pump to swipe the RV card, so I asked my wife to go in with the card and cash to get the pump started. Are all pumps equipped to have cards swiped or not?

Hi Paul - At the RV lanes you put your credit card in first then it will prompt you for your loyalty card. If you are paying with cash, you do have to prepay inside where they will swipe your card. If you were to use the truck lanes, you swipe your loyalty card only to start the pump and then pay inside when you're done.

I recently traveled from Gulf shores, Alabama back to Michigan. Stopped two times at a Flying J using the diesel truck lanes. First time it shut me off with the Great RV frequent fueler card at $250.00 When asked inside when I paid then with the Credit card the 12 y/o girl behind the counter...Said thats the Limit...End of discussion. I have since emailed Pilot and got a very nice response about they would look into it!

I sent my card number and a copy of the fuel receipt to them. End of discussion. NO further email or anything. When I asked why it shut me off there was not a reply. BUT I did get cash price with the discount for using my credit card. Who knows what Pilot /Flying J is up to.

I guess they do not want me to spend too much money at their pumps!

Hi KKelly - I thought the limit was $750 for truck lanes so I will have to check with technology to see if that was changed. I'm sorry I don't have that info right off the bat for you, but I will get back to you shortly. I am sorry you haven't received a response on this yet, but I will get you an answer. Thank you!

Linsay, I use a credit card that gives me credit, but only if I pay at the pump. This works if I go through the RV lanes. But I refuse to use the truck lanes if I have to take the card inside. I won't get my credit from the card company. Isn't there some change that can be made so I can use my credit card at the pump in the truck lane?

Our Pilot experience at the truck lanes traveling from Tennessee to Pennsylvania. First stop the registered new card did activate the pump. Wonderful! The pump shut off at $250.00. Went inside to pay it and received the discount. We needed more fuel so the clerk ran the card (s)? again. The discount did not appear on the second fueling. The next stop the clerk worked hard to get our RV card recognized so we did get the discount. Today our stop at a Pilot turned out that it is privately owned and they do not accept the RV card.

I sent an e-mail to Pilot regarding our fuel purchases and did get a reply. They said that the pump shutting of $250 was an error and would be corrected. As far as no discount on our second fueling to finish the job they said that there normally is no discount but that we could contact their credit department and they would issue us a credit. Frankly I was surprised to get an answer from them. I read the more recent posts and hopefully things will be corrected!

They appear to be trying.

KKelly - I talked with our technology group and the limit is still $750. Looks like we had a glitch in the system for a few days that stopped the pumps at $250. That has since been changed. Please let me know if you have any other issues with this. Thanks so much for your patience.

Yes, there is a solution for this, and we will have that capability later this year. We have a whole new system going in place this summer that will allow us more control than we do now so that we can start the pump and process credit cards at the truck lanes. I do not have a definite time on when that will be available, but I will post on this forum when we do have that functionality.

Lynsay, I would just like to say "THANK YOU" for standing in here, taking the hits, and answering all of our questions and addressing the problem. I really think you are trying to solve the problem. Again, THANK YOU....Paul

I fueled at the Pilot (former Flying J) in St. George, UT on 4/18 and used the truck lane because my last Flying J directory indicated they did not have an RV island. I took my Flying J card and Visa card to the clerk inside to initiate the transaction. After filling, I went in to get my receipt and found no discount and that I was charged the credit price. The first stupid clerk said I needed to register my card. The senior clerk gave me the 3-cent discount, but stated that the credit price was charged at both auto and truck pumps, even with the RV "loyalty" card. I won't be loyal much longer.

I am sorry for the misinformation that this store gave you. I know this has been more of a headache for you than anything else. Do you know if your card has been registered or not? I can check that for you if you sent me your card # to lynsay.caylor@pilottravelcenters.com. If your card is registered, you just need to swipe it at the truck pump, fuel, pull forward, and then pay inside when you are done. The only way to receive the discount at the truck pump is by swiping at the pump. The total on your receipt should then reflect the cash price plus the $.03 discount. This won't be a line item on the receipt, but it will be reflected in the total. I'll be sure to have someone address this at that store as they were incorrect in telling you that you get the credit price. You do always get the cash price + discount when you swipe your loyalty card when fueling.

The first clerk might not have been so stupid. Note that Lynsay also states that your card must be registered. This is something new since the Pilot take-over. You have to take your card into a Flying J, show your ID and have the account properly registered to you.

If I'm not mistaken, and I may be, (good memory) I had registered my card years ago on the Flying J site.

I would assume, and you know what that means, Pilot/Flying J's site would have the same option.

No, this is something new since the take over. I am not sure that you can register it on the website since someone from FJ/Pilot needs to register your card with the information from your drivers license.

Bill, I just found this on this site https://www.frequent...com/faq.aspx#20 How do I register my Frequent Fueler Advantage RV card? * At any Pilot or Flying J Driver Kiosk – located in each store * www.frequentfueleradvantage.com * Cashier's Counter (for Pump Start feature)

Actually, you do not have to show a driver's license for registration. You just need to visit http://www.frequentf...radvantage.com/ to register your card. Pump start is automatically turned on for all registered RV cardholders. Even if you registered back with Flying J several years ago, if you haven't registered since Dec 15, 2010 through our new program, your card won't start the pump to get your discount.

Well, that's new as well. FJ has becoming a moving target so keeping up can be difficult. "I" was required to take my card to the manager and get registered for the pump start option. It appears that is no longer a requirement. At that time there was also a requirement that I pump 500 gallons before the pump start option would function and that's no longer a requirement. No telling what the news will be next week.

It appears that the target has moved again .... I just registered my card on line, in case I do want to pay more and stop at a FJ

All went well .... except I got this message :

Pump Start is only available to customers paying with cash, check or credit cards.

Pump Start can only be requested at a store.

Please present your drivers license to a cashier to request Pump Start.

I went back to Pilot web site and found this :

What is Pump Start and how do I get it? Pump Start allows you to start the fuel pumps using your Frequent Fueler Advantage RV Card – or your RV Real Value Card (if you are currently using one). To get the Pump Start feature, you must register your card at the cashier’s counter at any Flying J or Pilot location. After you have purchased 500 or more gallons from Flying J and / or Pilot, we will activate your card for Pump Start. You can see how many gallons you have purchased toward your Pump Start activation qualification by logging into your Frequent Fueler Advantage RV account online, at www.FrequentFuelerAdvantage.com, by checking your account at the in-store Driver Kiosk asking a manager at your closest Pilot or Flying J.

So I guess pump start is NOT automatically turned on when you register.

It will take me several years to get to 500 gallons. So that is not much of a feature for me.

Best place to fuel up today is Wal-Mart ... where they have a fuel station.

Good Price ... discount if you use there cash card ... and most of them are big enought to get in with a 40 foot and towing.

I do believe that the 500 gallon requirement is gone and mine shows that the pump start is active and I know I have not pumped 500 gallons since registering. I do think that the card needs to be registered at a store somewhere as I have no proof to the contrary.

Did you read mclavey's post? It doesn't matter what this thread says, it matters what is actually happening.

If you go back to the first page of this thread, you will find that the 500 gallons in gone and you can register online.

Don

That's how it worked for me. I haven't been in a PFJ since last October. I registered my card online in December and it shows pump start is activated.

I am so sorry for the confusion. I thought that portion of the website had been changed already to reflect the new procedure. I just sent a message to IT to have that fixed immediately. You are automatically registered for Pump Start at the truck diesel lanes when you register your RV card (whether it is an older FJ card or one of the new orange RV cards). You do not have to show your license to a cashier or fuel 500 gallons to receive the discount. This is a requirement for our blue Professional Driver cards but NOT the orange RV cards or previous Flying J RV cards. I hope this helps cut down on the confusion. Also, if you would send me your card #, I can look it up to see what the error is. Please email me at lynsay.caylor@pilottravelcenters.com. Thank you!

Hi Lindsay: thank you for taking the time to answer so many questions. I have an FJ R.V. Real Value Member Card issued last year by FMCA. Following your instructions I registered the card yesterday on Pilot/FJ Website. I then tried to register my existing 15-20 year old card which was not accepted. With all I've read about 'orange' cards, Frequent Fueler cards, professional cards, cards with an 'RV' in the corner, etc. will I now receive a discount using my current RV card as well as auto pump feature when used with a Discover Card?? The posts regarding this seem to be contradictory.

thanks, terry

Hello everyone - I want to let you know of a new thread I started under General Discussions that the forum moderators have pinned. Here is the link:

I have found this to be helpful in answering questions about Pilot Flying J. On this thread you will see all of the latest RV info and links to our RV websites. You also will find info on how to contact Pilot Flying J if you have a situation where something didn't work properly at one of our stores. I highly recommend you using the process and email address that I have posted on this thread for answering your questions. This email goes directly to our RV specialist in customer service who can easily pull up your account and see where the problem may be.

If the info provided doesn't answer your questions, please post your question on that thread for me to answer. I will be mainly focused on that thread versus this one. Thanks for your help and for letting me be part of your community!
