fivejackie Report post Posted June 28, 2015 Check your fuel filter, gen oil level and fuel tank. Some unit must be over a 1/4 full of fuel.
bigben6969 Report post Posted June 28, 2015 I ran the coach low before stopping and filling up could that caused the issue. I checked the oil but not the fuel filter.
dickandlois Report post Posted June 28, 2015 The Cummins / Onan generators can be primed after one runs them out of fuel by holding the stop side of the switch down for a good 30 seconds to a min. Then try to start it again. Let the group know if that worked and we will go from there. Rich.
jleamont Report post Posted July 6, 2015 bigben6969, Any update? Check and see if it has an auto start/auto stop feature. If so double check your settings. I accidentally turned on my auto shut down and it will not run if the batteries are close to a full charge, even if the A/C units are turned on, it will still shut down. Yea, it doesn't make sense but it was designed that way.
bigben6969 Report post Posted July 13, 2015 Holding down the switch worked. Thanks to the family.
kaypsmith Report post Posted July 23, 2015 I know this is a little late, and is the opposite of your question. I worked on a friends 4000 watt Cummins/Onan Saturday two weeks ago, he has burned up two starters in two years, while working and getting it back to running. I noticed that when he pressed the kill button, he continued to hold that button till the engine completely stopped. When I showed him that all that was necessary to push then release, he explained that no one had told him this. What was happening, holding that button, he was actually flooding the carburetor, causing the next start to be a hard start.
rlbarkleyii Report post Posted September 12, 2015 My ONAN 6500 would start and then shortly shut down when the oil level is low. Restoring the proper oil level cured the problem. THANKS TO ALL FOR THEIR INPUT!
