Life Returns to Normal or Close to Normal

I am one month from my left knee replacement and life is returning to normal. Once off the powerful medication, I began driving when I returned to the rehab facility. I'm slow getting in and out of the car but once there, completely comfortable driving. Rehab is progressing from stretching and improving range of motion to building strength. The pain level in the knee is decreasing and I'm able to sleep better at night. My surgeon has me on extra strength Tylenol now. I thought I would see if I r

Lost laptop on Highway 64 South near the Grand Canyon

Hello! I left a black Dell laptop on top of my car Monday, June 28th at Mather Campground in the Grand Canyon. We drove from there to the visitors' center and then headed south on Interstate 64 South, headed for LA. I am thinking I heard a noise half an hour onto 64, and in retrospect, I am guessing that may have been my computer falling. If anyone comes across a computer on the roadside or in the park, I would love a call at 970-556-1650. It has 5 years of family pictures on it, and that par

First of what I hope are many...

Greetings, let me start off by stating that I have never done this before so please excuse any blogging faux-pas that I may make over the course of this endevor. I am new to FMCA, having just joined, well, today. If you can't tell by my handle, I'm in the Coast Guard and have proudly served since 1998. Now after 3 years in my beloved Pacific Northwest, I find myself with a fresh (by fresh I mean it only took the Yeoman a month to type the orders out) set of orders directing me to depart and

Knee Knews

It has been two weeks since my last entry. In that time I've made great progress in my recovery. I had doubts about the wisdom of doing the recovery from my knee replacement while living in the motor home. After two weeks any doubts have been erased. Actually I believe that the recovery has been easier in the motor home than it would have been in an actual home. From the time I opened the door and faced the five steps to get into the motor home I found everything worked very well. There are gra

Bad to the Bone

Our travels after Denver were easy to plan. We drove about three miles from Golden Terraces RV Park to I-70, headed east and stopped when we got to Foristell, Missouri. Another three miles south of I-70 and we were at our daughters' home where we are parked for an extended period of time. Our activities since arriving here have included a dance recital by our granddaughter, a barbeque on Memorial Day weekend which included several killer games of croquet, and now a brand new knee for me! We've

Looking For Your OPINION on CLASS A Motorcoaches

My wife Kim and I have been RVing for a few years now and are ready to trade in our 31ft Hurricane Class A motorhome for something a bit nicer. We have been looking at the manufactures information, but as you all know, manufacturer's tend to accentuate the positive and overlook the negative. So we decided to ask the people who live the RV life every day for your opinions. We hope you will take a few minutes to share your thoughts on the various models on the RV market today. We would like to tha

FMCA RV Park in Cincinnati

Whenever we're traveling by Cincinnati, we like to stay at the FMCA Member's RV park on 3590 Round Bottom road. It gives us a chance to visit FMCA headquarters and say Hi! Oh, yeah, it also gives us a chance to go to Graeter's Ice Cream for the "to-die-for" Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip! It's free for members to stay for two days, then $20/night after that. Good 50-amp power and GREAT Wi-FI!! We heard the Wi-Fi was just added a week or so ago ... they must have known we were coming!

The Planning Begins

Getting in the right frame of mind to start putting the three-week-long summer trip together. We are still in debate over location and are in the process of pouring over pages and pages of travel guides. With the price of gas so high, we may be staying a little closer to home than usual, but our adventurous spirit is aching to get going. We loved Tennessee last summer and really enjoyed Kentucky's Mammoth Caves the year before. Weren't too thrilled with Arkansas, but then again, we didn't travel

Live from Deer Creek

We have been sitting on lot #3 at the Deer Creek Motorcoach Resort (The one in Galax, Virginia) for about 18 days now, give or take a day. For most of the last five it has been raining hard. If there was ever any question about how well our coach roof is sealed, we now have the answer ... it is definitely waterproof. I performed maintenance on it just before the monsoon arrived. I washed it, resealed some of the seams with self-leveling Dicor sealant, the kind that needs a caulk gun to apply,

Wow! Sedona & Red Rock SP are AWESOME!

We are here in beautiful Sedona, AZ. The Red Rock State Park here in Sedona is such an awesome place. The views of the red rock monoliths are incredible! Everywhere you look I'm just totally amazed by the splendor of the geology here and how breathtaking it all is. We are so fortunate to be able to be volunteer hosts here at the park. The staff here is wonderful, helpful and very friendly. We have played the tourist bit as we took a Pink Jeep Tour called "Broken Arrow," and wow, was that ever

JAGUAR XJ review

The 2012 Jaguar XJ ranks 9 out of 12 Super Luxury Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 26 published reviews and test drives of the Jaguar XJ, and our analysis of reliability and safety data. With loads of standard features, a stunning design and powerful engine choices, test drivers say that the 2012 Jaguar XJ has a lot going for it. However, the XJ loses points for its fussy cabin electronics. The JAGUAR XJ is a cab-rearward design and is incredibly riveting to stare at as

Declining Rally Attendance

First posting attempt. Here's hoping! Am surprised by the continually falling attendance and the implication that carries. Can only surmise membership is slipping, and therewith revenues, club viability, etc. Am planning on attending GLASS in MI end of this month. Whereas it used to get up to 1300 coaches, last year it was down in the 700 range. How few will attend this year I wonder? Using Perry as a benchmark my first was in 1996 (6632). Attendance held pretty steady through 2005 and t

On the Road Again!

Our winter this year was spent in our new mobile home in Sandpipers Resort in Edinburg, Texas. The motor home has been seriously neglected during this winter. We don't have to winterize in the normal sense. Tanks are drained and the refrigerator emptied and unplugged. We left the heat on and air conditioning when needed. Tires were inflated to maximum inflation pressure and we were parked on wooden blocks. I did wash the motor home several times through the winter and we were in and out moving i

Daniel

I have enjoyed being part of the motor home community. It means a lot to me. More than I can possible say. At this moment I am at Deer Creek Motorcoach Resort in Galax. It has been my refuge for the last few days. I am surrounded by my friends and I have needed them and they have been here for me. Yesterday I lost one of my grandsons. I never got the chance to meet him. Diane had to fly down to Florida to be with our daughter and her husband after we learned that her unborn baby boy who was goin

Love Bug Season

It's LoveBug season on the west coast of Florida and if you have ever been travelling during this time of year, you understand the difficulty this presents. Imagine driving through a snow storm of orange headed, little black bugs, flying in pairs, attached at the butts, and ultimately landing on your windshield with a splatter. After just a few minutes of driving, the windshield becomes covered in tiny black carcasses making it very difficult to see where you're going. To make matters worse,

The Tango

Before Diane and I became Motorhome owners, and before my son entered college, we were avid cruisers. This is the story of our first one, which took place a bunch of years ago. This story, which I wrote years ago, will take up some blog space until next week when we shall once again hit the road in our UFO and I write about it. THE TANGO My wife Diane is always collecting stories and anecdotes from people. For years if she hears something interesting from somebody she will tell me about it. S

Moving on from Texas ... Full-Timing Going Great!

Wow! Does time really fly when you are having fun! It is hard to believe we have been here at Buescher State Park for almost five months. It has been quite the experience living here in the park through the winter months and now early spring. We actually had snow here back in January, but not that much just enough to cover the ground and make us realize what we were missing back in New England. I can honestly say I haven't missed the snow and cold of the Northeast! We did have one four-day perio

My Name is Theodore

My name is Theodore. I have had a lot of names in my short life; Beasley, Bailey and one other one that I don't remember, or maybe I just don't want to remember. I don't mind the name Theodore, but I like the name Mom and Dad use best ... Teddy Bear. I am Teddy Bear Parker. Being a Parker makes me happy. Can a dog be happy? Some will tell you that being happy is only for humans. Someone once said that a wild bird will fall frozen from a tree limb and never feel sorry for itself. How does

Oh My Lord, Not Again!

Yesterday, Teddy Bear, our Cocker Spaniel, was very ill. We don't know how, but he he picked up a gastro bacterial infection. It knocked him for a loop. He wouldn't eat, or drink anything, on his own. If we coached him, he would take a bit of yogurt, or maybe eat an ice cube, but neither would stay down for long. I can tell you it scared both Diane and myself. I guess we are still a bit raw-nerved from the loss of our Nickolas just five short months ago. Actually, I was more than scared, I was n

Packrat

My wife tells me that I am a packrat. I consider myself a collector of memories. I have a lot of wrist watches, including six Disney ones. I collect pocket knives. Some are quite old and some of those I have had since I was really young. There are a lot of things in my small home office. Some of the things would be considered junk by most people. Some may be worth a few bucks. To me they are all valuable. Hanging on the wall in front of my desk is a gold framed shawdowbox with all the pi

Catching Up

It has been nearly 4 months since our last entry and we are a long way from Port Isabel Texas. We spent the remainder of December in South Texas spending the Christmas Holidays in Mission and then moving back to the coast spending the New Year holiday in South Padre Island. We then started our trek along the gulf coast stopping at Corpus Christi and Houston before departing Texas for Louisiana. We spent a week in Breaux Bridge which is just to the east of Lafayette. This is a nice town de
