  1. There may be a sticker on evaporator housing or accumalor dryer stating cgarge capacity. R134a systems are typically charged more by volume or pressure rather than site glass due to the fact that 134 can still have bubbles when system is full. If doing this yourself a slight under charge is better than an overcharge. dave
  2. With gen running turn on enough stuff(ac,microwave, hot water heater, etc) to load the gen good. If you have problem with fuel it will show up pronto under a good load. Just don't overload it. Dave
  3. I myself would start with fully charged batteries, remove negative cables, clean tops of batteries and forget about them. A good fully charged battery with no drain will not self discharge if in good condition. This is proven here in North Dakota every winter by farmers who do not even disconnect cables. Even dirt or corrosion on battery top will cause a small current drain. If you are still concerned by a small battery tender charger and leave it plugged in. Regardless of what you do remove at least the negative cables. Dave
  4. These jacks are simply a one way cylinder. Many forms of farm and construction equipment sit for many months with cylinders extended, some with weight some not. Does no damage in my opinion, but as Brett said others are almost sure to disagree. Dave
  5. My 2004 isb has only one f/w filter on it. I traced lines myself and also had dealer check to be sure. Fuel goes from tank through the lift pump then f/w filter then to high pressure pump. On mine you do not fill filter with fuel just install and turn key on let lift pump fill filter, open water drain fitting to bleed air. These motor require about 25,000 lbs of fuel pressure under load or check engine light comes on and it goes into limited mode with low power. Happened to mine, small internal leak from loose fitting. You need to have it checked by someone with laptop and proper programming to see where problem is. Could be vgt [variable geometry turbo] problem, lift pump, high pressure pump, etc. Way to many possibilities to guess at. Good luck, hope your problem is minor. Dave
  6. We stay in Walmarts when traveling regularly.Always ask and just about always shop for something. Usually buy something we dont need.Usually costs more than staying at a campground, but that is our problem not Walmarts.Buy all our food and supplies at Walmarts. Dave
  7. Does this happen after 8 - 10 hours of not running or every time you start it? If it does it after sitting a few hours it most likely has a small leak where air is getting into fuel system. Usually causing long crank times, smoke for awhile after starting, sometimes will run rough till air bleeds out. Can be hard to find leak because they mostly are internal. Good luck Dave When this happened on our buses usually never set any codes.
  8. hi, Turned out engine dropped a valve seat took out piston, injector tip, turbo, etc. broken injector tip caused fuel pressure to drop. After checking on coach one am went to have breakfast and was rear ended at stoplight.coach down,c ar smashed but driveable I am Getting out of New Mexico asap. Had to order long block for coach so will have to fly back to get it. Little bit fed up with cummins engine right now but will get over it. Dave
  9. With a diesel big thing is do not let it idle a long time.Agree with thermal cycles but usually with a diesel they say to work them to break them in, do not lug it but use it. Once you have air pressure drive slowly till temp gauge has come up near normal,or at least to 160 degrees.
  10. Wolfe's post about brake fluid is right on. Make sure you use proper brake fluid. ABS unit light came on when abs set code from spongy pedal. More than likely lite comes on and flashes then goes out because a code is stored in unit. Change fluid, then have codes checked and light reset and all will more than likely be okay. Usually when light comes on abs is shut down till until problem is resolved.
  11. Late this fall we stayed at EZ DAZE RV park while visiting Memphis. It was a great clean easy to get to park just south of Memphis a few miles in Southhaven Mississippi.Close to Graceland and great barbecue places. I was told parks in Memphis were not very safe. Why I do not know. Check out[ rv parks reviews.com] its where I find most places I stay.
  12. Hi all, Anyone know anything about repeat failures of injection pumps? 2004 Sportscoach Crosscountry ISB hpcr 300 hp. Had pump replaced for no start 20 months ago at 29000 miles. Started acting up yesterday, check engine lite on and off. Seemed to miss at idle. Got off highway to campground ,checked in and on way to site it died.Changed fuel filter and bleed air good flow from lift pump. Will fire but not start. Iam suspecting high pressure pump bad again. Now at 42000 miles.
  13. What do you mean by burned up? What brand of compressor? If clutch assembly on front of compressor is what failed could be due to overtightened belt or improper clutch shoe gap. Most ac run when defrosters are on.
  14. With everything cold start engine apply brake put in gear and press on accelerator to slip converter no more than a few seconds shut off engine and feel lines. Output from trans will be warmer.
  15. What color is the smoke ? In general, white is not enough fuel, black is to much, blue is oil smoke.
  16. Check at what speed the transmission up-shifts at under almost full throttle and downshift below this speed.
  17. Hi, I replaced my 235 70 22.5 Michelins with 255 70 22.5 Hankooks. I am very satisfied with ride and handling. No problems with spacing between duals or width. They were about $125.00 cheaper per tire at the time. Have had them 2 1/2 years and have only added air twice then only few lbs.
  18. I put 255 70 22.5 Hankooks on my motorhome 2 1/2 years ago.Required no weights at all have no beads either. Ride is a little stiffer than Michelin were but still good. Have added air 3-5 lbs once a year so far, wear shows none but only travel 5000 to 7000 a year. I would definitely buy again.
