    Ken Mentioned pulling the fuse and at this time it is the quickest solution ! 

    The furnace start up sequence - requires the fan / blower to start first. The sail switch in the furnace blower unit could be hanging up and replacing it is time consuming on most of the units. Think that is a good project for the Spring. Why it is getting power when the thermostat is off - could indicate another issue.

  3. Kay, The generator Ground needs to be connected to the Frame, if it is not one will see 60 cycle hum bars on the high side - most common point was the video screens in the past.

    There has never been any issue with that setup on our coach with it connected to shore power while exercising generator after servicing and it will happen. BTDT.


  4. Good point Brett!  Found out it was used on the F-53 chassis from 01 to 04. Talked to a Ford tech and mentioned software comparability. 

    Not sure How many changes would have been made and it should be possible to mount some of them differently - rewire a matching connector and connect to the original harness. Have not found out Who supplied the OEM chassis harness ????

  5.       The Floor heating Could be hot water or electric. Both have there good and bad points. The first thing one might do is to contact the coach builder with your Model and Year coach. Ask for the heating system drawings for your floor plan. This is important, because the floor plan tends to determine where or how things are routed and located. 

          Once you have the PDF files and understanding them is not one of your skill sets - attach them to a post and someone on the forum will try to fill in how things work and where to start looking for the problem.

  6. Joe, There is a gentleman in Oregon that replaced a Cat 13 with a Detroit 60 series and it bolted up to the Allison 4000. The changes needed to install the engine and related cooling, air intake and CAC  was a process. The end results was a coach that on its first run down and backup the grapevine was getting 18 MPG at 70 mph. 

    One needs to understand that he owns a large operation and had one of his large Low Boys pick up the Beaver in MT. at what might be called a fire sale .

    Interesting feedback. The furnace vents on the furnaces installed in our coach are made of Stainless Steel, run hot and only protrude 1/2 in. out the side and one section of the blower moves just a little hot air along the exhaust system and out around the exhaust vent support system. 

    Never have had any water or ice form around them while traveling.

        Running the furnace while traveling is fine.  Just check or have it checked out before hand. When you are traveling it is not always easy to hear how they are running, because of the road noise. ALSO! remember to turn them off when fulling up.

He has the 4R100 in this year, this was the altered infamous E4OD, (not a good reputation) that gave most heart burn. The 4R100 was introduced in the late 90’s as a fix to the E4OD, from the outside they look identical other than the transmission lines were 3/8 vs the older had 5/16 and the cooler bypass during warmups. Other wise they look identical, sharing the same transmission pan.

    Thanks Joe ! If Diff. treatment was put in the trans - not a good plan, time to change the fluid and filters, After a good check of the switches an running a pressure test.

    Been trying to fine some info on the use and specifications on the tow / haul switch. Like when to use it(maximum Load before disengaging the overdrive)

  10. All Good points Joe! The one that causes the most issues is the V-10 ignition. early spark plugs

    I did find This info. but not sure what specific chassis he has .

    Ray,, The thing is, if it is an ignition issue. One would think the Check Engine light would be on. There is the possibility of having one code stored and no light, when 2 codes are stored they will always light.

    Have run into it when the OB2 readers are connected, one shows up. The O.P. does not mention running a code reader, but did mention that the problem only happens in overdrive and that if the Tow / Haul switch is engaged there is no shutter.

    If a transmission pressure test was not run, then why did the transmission shop offer an additive. Less then 60K miles. The overdrive system can be damaged with a load / weight beyond a load.

    Mark, From the information, including the replaced parts. It looks more and more like an electrical issue. Intermittent connections can drive the best techs nuts. 

    By replacing the modules - That kind of confirms the issue is, corrupted data or communications,  Not the Modules When the system works / it works fine and when it goes south it is in that state for a number of key cycles at times. How many miles on the Coach? Think I remember it's like 3 years old. 

    Have you or do you park where rodents are around? Also, there is a good possibility of an unseen location  where the wiring is pinched or rubbing some where. 

    The CAN Data string is a blur in real time because of the system clock speed, But any bad packets should trigger an error code. The fact that there are none, Leads one to look at the dumbest circuits .

    Your coach slipped through with a hidden snake in the grass and they do not come with redundant systems.

    There are required electrical maintenance items. Carl did mention keeping them charged some how and a close eye on the water levels in the batteries. Using the charger / inverter built into the coach or a supplemental 10 amp. trickle  charger. There are phantom loads as mentioned by Carl and they are always present. 12 volt coach wiring is drawing a level of current to power all the coach systems that require 12 volts. Refrigerator control module, furnace control system, water heater, water pump, 12 volt lighting, entry steps, power roof vents, the off air signal amplifier, smoke detector and CO-2 detector in some cases. 

    One should turn off the 120 volt inverter. It will draw current from the coach battery bank, even when not needed !

    Also, There are all ways loads on 12 volt wiring for the chassis batteries.

    Just parking and forgetting a RV no mater what class or size is a No / No.

    Overdrive is the last state or gear ratio of the trans. Any vibration in any other gear?

    Got to ask, how many miles on the Ford, How many miles on the Trans fluid, What is the condition of the spline connection and the universal joints?

    What is the status of the torque converter? Does it shutter in or out of lockup  mode ? Most transmission torque converters are locked up by second gear.

    What Transmission is installed?

    What is the transmission hydraulic pressure readings?

  15. Eric, I tend to agree with Bill. Check The Hex plug and check The threads on the plug threads for any damage, with a magnifier. As Bill mentioned - take a real close  inspection of the sealing "O" ring. The I.D. and O.D. also the thickness of the ring it's self - it must fit snugly and compress equally.  

    You might want to consider a copper washer. Like the ones used on fuel lines and hydraulic brakes. The pressure in most leveling and slide systems is 3000 psi. Copper washers come in multiple sizes. 8 mm is not real common, but 10 mm to 16 mm are.

     White Pipe cleaners work very well to find any leaking too almost a pinpoint. As soon as it touches a leak it changes color and can be  trimmed using wire cutters to keep checking for other leak points.

  16. Hank, Think The dash panel fuse box is located in the bay, the power inverter is located.

            located in the inverter compartment bay, is the Freightliner fuse panel. The following diagram is for reference only.

    Look at section 9  Page 16, shows a 12 fuse panel - Labeled Panel fuse rated 15 amps. Think that one might be what you are looking for.

  17. Hank,There is one possibly in Wisconsin. Used. Looking into your issue. It appears that Ford could have used the same Module from 01 to 04.

  18. Keigm, I have done some reading on them, But personally have no first hand experience with them. 

    The main concern I have is there durability. How they would hold up in the different weather conditions and second how they are mounted to prevent wind damage while driving.

    Placing them on the roof, Would they need to be removed before traveling and stored to ensure a longer life expectancy?

  19. Thanks for you'r reply Joe. That is one reason I ask if the internal hydraulic pressure has been measured.  Having that info could reveal an issue with a internal pressure switch not responding. 

    The other item(s) you mentioned. Poor ground point(s) are always on top of list when it comes to intermittent issues.

    Asked Mark if this issue has been more prevalent over time. From seldom to almost every startup cycle.
