The gears in the driver side mirror on our coach have stripped and I'm told replacing the entire unit is considerably cheaper than trying to buy the 'innards'? It's a 2001 American Eagle coach with bus style mirrors as shown in this 'sistership' pix. Any leads would be appreciated: Thanks!

Herman, really hate to disagree with you (unless it's a bet and you buy , BUT, I think the caulking required for sealing rubber gasketing is going to be urethane. The problem with silicone is that the gasketing material releases oils over time and is not compatible with the silicone. As to the replacement gasketing, if you'll search CRL (C R Laurence Co) at http://tinyurl.com/4p2agyu you should find a suitable replacement. You can order or find a paper catalog at most any glass shop. They also sell urethane sealants. Good luck.

About 6" inches of snow at the house (30 mile No of Dallas) and 4-5" in town BUT it's 10:30AM and still snowing!!! The extended forecast for the next 5 days is not promising for any serious thawing. The Rio Grande Valley doesn't need anymore freezing WX, the fruit prices are high enough and the farmers take it on the chin! Hope none of ya are in town for the Super Bowl. It is really a cold, frozen mess here in the DFW area! As an aside, the cabbies are on strike. The DFW airport board started a new practice allowing CNG powered cabs to go to the front of all the lines; Of course, the 90% cabs who aren't became understandably upset! While the coach is winterized, I still put a small ceramic heater inside with all the cabinet doors open. Forecast is for 9 degrees tonight ... BRRRRR.

I'm jealous Gary, for now at least,,, We're fortunate in that within 200 miles there are numerous "local" areas to be explored and enjoyed. Here's another way to look at it, our boat with 400 gal diesel capacity averages 1 nmpg per gallon. Half the speed, half the distance and we can still enjoy wilthout worrying about the fuel cost.

Sorry I didn't clarify. We only buff and wax the outer perimeter (Approx 18" each side) of the roof. we have a full fiberglass roof and the center section is textured so as to help against sliding or sliping. Obviously one wouldn't wax that. I would think 'rain gutters' could be fitted also if the problem continued to be a nuisance. Fred

A very light compound with a buffer and then wax... at least it worked for us.

Having recently purchased a used coach (November) I can pesonally tell you there are some really great deals out there right now! But as noted above, you have to search. With specific regards to your question, try the Edmunds or NADA sites for what the values are. IMHO do not pay any attention to asking prices on coaches from dealers, other than for a general guide. Our '01 40 DP 'window stickered' at $129,000. We were out the door for about $35k under that. In this case the coach had only 16k verifiable miles and is in excellent condition. Our good friends bought a 200 single slide 36' gas MH last Mar for around $47k, looking back, they'll tell you it's probably worth only $25k in the real marketplace. IMO "look, having looked, look again", Good luck and hope to see ya'll on the road.

Looks like its been a while since any newbie posts, so let me be an adventurer We're pretty much newlyweds as our first year anniversary is this month (we both lost our spouses of many years to cancer in 2006. Interestingly, she was my parents neighbor for 7 years and we had never met. While I've camped (Eagle Scout, deer hunter) for many years and had A 33' Georgie Boy gas MH back in '97, my child bride Terry, is brand new to the program. She is retired and I plan to be in the next year and a half! Last November we bought an '01 American Eagle 40 DP and have two trips under our belts, one that covered 1,700 miles. We've just added a Jeep Liberty TOAD with Blue Ox gear to the mix. We are looking forward to meeting many of you at the rallies and sharing a toast or three to the open road. Terry and Fred

Jim, Of course it's too late now, but don't feel alone, I first changed filters (marine Cummins) without filling the filter and filter bowl with diesel. Just to prove I'm human, did the same on our old Ford tractor. In BOTH cases, had to crack the injector fittings to allow the air out (only one on the 8.3 Cummins in the boat, but had to do all three on the Ford.) As to the second filter if you don't have one, I added Baldwin 10 micron filters as they are relatively inexpensive and can be found most anywhere. Note, the Cummins already had a Racor external filter and 2 micron internal at the pump. Sorry to hear about your probs, but am sure you'll get it worked out. Fred

My contact at "W" tells me the new emission standard has added about $15k STICKER to their DPs.

With the 22.5 tires on our American Coach (33k lbs) I am wondering if I should invest in carrying a spare tire (no rim). We have "roadside coverage" with GoodSam, but that only covers the labor. A friend had a front tire blow 400 miles from home in West Texas (sparse country), his policy took care of the labor, but the ONLY local tire supplier available charged him $700.00 plus FET and sales tax for his 19.5 tire.

Hi Allen, Not familiar with your particular coach, but in our American Eagle there are panels under the mattress (as well as the side) that lift out for better access. Good luck!

My drinking buddy who works for W tells me that there has been a HUGE recall of Workhorse chassis due to brake related problems, It would certainly be prudent if you have one to check it out. My understanding is the recall goes back to 2001-2002,,, sorry if this is a repost.
