  1. We try to avoid the big national chains...PFJ, Loves, etc They are usually crowded, dirty and don't give that good a price. The discount they like to give brings the price down to where it should be and many others are. We try to find big rig friendly stations that pump lots of fuel.

  2. Allegiance40X

If you notice in my original post I mentioned that our unit is stored 45 minutes away from our home.

It's not exactly convenient to drive 45 minutes there and 45 minutes back the night before to turn on the refer each time we want to use the coach.

Being reasonably intelligent I do realize that the alternative to leaving the refer on.............. is to turn it off.

The purpose of my post was to find a way to leave the refer on.........and avoid the only other alternative........... of turning it off.

Just making a suggestion and expressing an opinion...not a comment on your intelligence.

  3. My name is Nick. I work on the new 6T30/40/45/50 fwd 6 speeds at General Motors within transmission development. In particular, I'm in charge of validation for dinghy towing.

I'm after some feedback, regardless of vehicle make, about the vehicle you currently dinghy tow (or have towed in the past).

    1. How many miles do you typically dinghy tow your vehicle yearly? 7,000

    2. What is the total tow mileage you have on your vehicle now? 12,000 (2011 CRV)

    3. What is the total tow mileage you expect to put on the vehicle before you upgrade to a new vehicle? UNLIMITED

    4. When towing, what is the average amount of time between stops? (be it restroom or fuel) THREE HRS.

    5. How often do you stop for a period of 10 min or more? (be it restroom, stretch, eat, fuel) EVERY THREE HRS...CAN BE ANYWHERE FROM ONE TO THREE

    6. What is your preferred cruising speed? 60 TO 62

    7. Do you use a rock shield? YES

    8. Where does the rock shield mount? (bumper, towbar, dinghy, or... so what type) BOLTED UNDER REAR OF MH

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated, which will help me better tune our internal testing requirements to better meet and exceed actual customer usage.

  4. Lots of good advice here. Where I park my MH in the winter has VERY reliable power. Therefore, I place small lamps with 60w bulbs in places that normally would require A/F...next to water pump, W/D, Aqua Hot, in back of refrig, etc. I always put the pink stuff in the toilet bowl and in the P traps. If there is any question of the power staying on, I run the pink stuff through the lines, not worth taking a chance on having a line freeze.

  5. Allegiance,

Loose or intermittent! Each camera has is own circuit wiring.

Thinking its a switch issue. The cameras are activated by the turn signal switch in most cases. So if they both are acting up, is it the same frequency for both?

The cameras are always on when the ignition circuit is active, the turn signal switch feeds power to the source input on the monitor thus selecting the side camera for the direction you are turning.

You might be able to interchange the side cameras with the rear view camera input to see if the cameras are at fault or the switch for the turn signal feed to the monitor, or the soft switch(relay) inside the monitor that controls what camera is displayed on screen.

    Hope these thoughts help.

    Rich.

"Loose or intermittent"...who knows. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Mine are activated by a left/right arrow as well as the turn signal. They always work with the L/R arrow, not so with the turn signa.

  6. USAA does not insure high dollar MHs or high dollar boats. We had our 5th wheel with them but they referred us to Progressive for the MH. I stayed with Progressive for a year then changed. My reasons for changing can be found by googling or binging their chairman, Peter Lewis.

  7. It is all in how you will use the coach. If 99% of your useage is while parked, how it handles on the road is incidental. If you go more days than you are stopped, road handling will be more important than the layout. IMHO, if $ is not the issue, go for the longer coach, it will please in both departments.

Agree, however, if 99% of my useage would be parked...I'd have kept my 5th wheel:)

  8. The drive train on the newer Civic is so close to identical with the CRV that most likely it could be towed 4 down. The problem is that Honda says they will not honor the warranty if the Civic is towed in more than emergency situations. Chances are you would never have a problem but do you want to battle Honda if something did go wrong? Honda has a CYA clause in their manuals about towing models other than the CRV and Fit.

The key words are "most likely." That would be a gamble I'm not willing to take.
