Family Trip from Florida to Yellowstone/GC. Need Ideas...
BillAdams replied to ptjeff04's question in Destinations/Attractions
Dang! I have been to Norman, OK too many times to count and did not know about the NWS being there or that tours were available. It's officially on my list now. Thanks for the info. Palo Duro is very interesting but you need to have time to take a guided tour into the canyon. I think the Mesa Verde site is more interesting but they are quite different in the way the information is presented. While the Big Texan and Lambert's are great novelty stops I would not drive a mile out of my way to visit one again (unless you were in the mood to eat a 72 oz steak or have rolls thrown at you). However, that's a complete personal opinion and not meant as anything else. -

Since you mention a stop in Atlanta, at least camp that night at Stone Mountain so you could make a short visit if you can't spend a day. It's a massive stone carving with lots of history. -

If you head to CO be sure to take the Cog Train to the top of Pikes Peak! Don't miss Devil's Tower as you will drive right by. Not sure you will find anything in Cody rodeo related unless your timing is perfect but the Buffalo Bill museum is something not to be missed. However, it's a bit overwhelming and it takes 2 4-5 hour days to get a really good look at much of the stuff (not all). Maybe you have better stamina than I but dang, it's so much information to absorb you will go brain dead before your legs wear out. -
Just because you never used it doesn't mean others should not. It's just a choice. For me I would hate to have to call, wait for the change and then go about the job of resetting all the timers in my DVR. I would have to do this something like 20 times per year. Yes, it's free but it's just not for me! Many times the "local" Networks aren't really local anyway. You could be in Yuma, AZ watching Tucson, AZ or Phoenix, AZ news or San Diego, CA but never Yuma.
-
Your only options are to call Dish and have them change your service address at each new location (assuming you move far enough to leave your current spot beam) or switch to DirecTV. You could also forgo satellite Networks entirely and use your current roof mounted OTA antenna for the reception of local Network programming.

Let us know if he can sell you some 8D Lifelines for $300 each (total, tax, tag, delivery). The Lifeline batteries are quite a bit heavier and my original set lasted 10 years. You need to ask if you need 10 year batteries and you need to know what your budget is. You can buy 8D wet cell for about $150 and if you take very, very, very good care of them they will do a very good job and last many years. I don't take ANY care of my batteries so I need something I don't have to think about.

First, YES! stop at Gateway Arch and do not miss the ride to the top (unless you are claustrophobic). I am going to take a look at your trip and see if I have any other suggestions along the way but off hand I can only see that you should plan to visit Devil's tower as you pass by. One more thing. If you will be passing close to Atlanta you should also visit Stone Mountain. Nice campground and a great history lesson. Take the tram to the top and walk down the mountain. It's long but it's well worth it. OK, I'm back. If you don't mind a 150 mile detour I would leave St. Louis and head for Kearney, NE to visit the Great Platte River Road Archway. Another amazing history lesson. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g45649-d126546-Reviews-Great_Platte_River_Road_Archway_Monument-Kearney_Nebraska.html That would take you through Denver (too much stuff to see/do) and then into Glenwood Springs, CO where you can stop and visit the best Hot Springs I have ever found. It's a nice fun break for the kids as well. You will then be headed toward Moab, UT where you can visit Arches and Canyonland. Again, awesome history plus unparalleled beauty. Are we having fun yet? If so, with a slight detour coming out of Moab you could visit Four Corners which is just slightly more than a tourist trap but a very cool story for the kids to tell that that stood in 4 different States at the same time. Wait, if you go that way you would first be able to visit Cortez, NM where you will be able to visit the Mesa Verde Cliff Dwellings. Something to not be missed. http://www.visitmesaverde.com/ Geeze, when will I learn to shut up! If you have the time, please, do it all. If not, do a bit of research and see what you and the kids would enjoy the most. No matter where you go and where you stop you are headed to some of the most beautiful land in the Country. Plan at least a week in Yellowstone or, if you are in a big hurry, stay at Flying Bridge (centrally located) and plan on 2 or 3 days of long drives to hit the highlights. -
Disney World Florida in Motorhome
BillAdams replied to gcollins's question in Destinations/Attractions
Must? I did it once but due to the cost I would never do it again. If you plan to only go once in your life (and you have kids along) I would absolutely agree that you must stay at Ft. Wilderness once! When it's just me and the wife we prefer to stay outside and have plenty of extra money to enjoy one of the many very nice restaurants. One of our favorites is the Flying Fish at The Boardwalk. Parking at The Boardwalk also allowed you to walk in the back gate with no crowds but the exact same access to the entire park. It was also close to one of our other favorite restaurants in Japan. -
You might be able to find something that works for your needs from these folks. http://www.cordpro.com/

I recently needed to replace my 8D Lifeline batteries and the very best pricing I could find was about $600 each. You might be including the labor involved as some Prevost's have tough battery locations. My Prevost has easy access and I did the work myself. While my Lifeline's did last 10 years (the last few years with reduced capacity) I chose to replace them with the Chinese built Universal Battery from Apex Battery. http://www.apexbattery.com/universal-power-ub-8d-agm-45964-battery.html We found them for $300 each (total) making my total investment $1200. That was about 2 years ago and "so far" I cannot tell any difference in performance. To break even I only need to have them last about 4 years (or reduced capacity to 5) and anything longer than that I am $$$ ahead.

Parking at Perry Convention-- ? Grass or Pavement?
BillAdams replied to MAxWedge's topic in FMCA Perry, Georgia, 2014
Mostly grass but they have put in much more gravel & pavement parking. I would do whatever I could to ensure I was not on the grass. It loves to rain when there's a rally at the fairgrounds and if you are on grass you are going to get stuck! -
What did they tell you when you called?

This message has been posted on the AAD website: All American Direct will cease operations on February 25th 2014 at 11:59 pm. At that time our services will no longer be available. All customers with time remaining on their service will receive a prorated refund by check or credit card. For further information please refer to the FAQ tab on this page. This will leave Dish customers without any DNS option unless Dish sets up and does the right thing, once again providing DNS (maybe even in HD again) to their customers.

Replacement is not always that affordable. My van headlights were shot and the dealer quoted $300 each as it was a large complete assembly. The 3M kit worked great. I did not housing the first day and the other (with a second kit) the second day. They were hard to tell from new and the amount of light available on the street was amazing. A few months later the van committed suicide and threw itself off a 30' cliff but at least it could see its way down! I sure was glad I saved that $600!

Google AM-21 and it will show you the compatibility. I have never had a need for one.
-
An AM-21 has nothing to do with the reception of satellite TV or the operation of any satellite antenna. The AM-21 is just an add-on available for some DirecTV receivers allowing the reception of the OTA programming on that box.
-
The ones I use are listed as warm white and offer a very similar color to an incandescent or halogen light which I like very much. There is a kelvin scale which rates the colors of white. If you are able to get that information you should be able to find the light you prefer.
-
True! If you connect to a dome style antenna you will not get any of the programming in HD but otherwise you will get all of that programming in SD and it all comes off one satellite making setup and operation very easy.

Yes, that service is available for both Dish or DirecTV customers. For DirecTV you get programming from EITHER NY or LA (based upon the time zone where the account is setup) and with Dish you can select NY or San Fran. (or both) but only in SD and through a separate company called All American Direct.

The in-motion domes (all domes) can receive the Dish HD programming but none can receive the DirecTV HD programming. If HD is not an issue for you then I would go with DirecTV as all of their SD programming comes off just one satellite which is centrally located in the US (101 longitude) and provides the best service area.

You can get all the stuff you would get during a home installation in your RV and you can get it all free. If you cannot find an RV friendly installer through one of the local RV parks, you can call Winegard at 866-609-9374 and they will send you all of the necessary equipment and setup your mobile account. There is no extra charge for HD (unless you do the pay as you go) when you sign a contract. The Winegard RT4000T will work just fine and I would recommend you get a VIP211k (or z) for best operation with that antenna. You will either need to make all the necessary connections yourself or, again, find a local RV friendly installer (or neighbor) familiar with setting up a dome and running the necessary Check Switch routine. Let me know if you need additional info.

2 prong, 3 prong? What are you referring to? The wall plug? What is the model number of the new receiver?

What Is The Best Way To Stay Connected Online?
BillAdams replied to tbutler's topic in RV Internet to Go/Staying in Touch
I have never seen this being availalbe from Verizon. They do have unlimited voice and messaging but the data should be limited. Can you give us some additional details? -
The 211z has Video out only (plus red/white audio out). That's what you would connect to an RF modulator and the modulator would provide a coax output.

Does the subwoofer also come into play when you turn on your radio/surround sound? If so you can turn up the volume and you should be able to find that thumping subwoofer! What year coach? What manufacturer? Is that a factory installed TV or an update?
