I wondered if some coaches have spares.  Aren't the back rims different though.  Where you you have it mounted?

Not normally. Our Type C had one underneath on a winch, our A had nothing. I bought a wheel and tire, it and it resides in one of the basements. Most coaches with aluminum wheels only have the rear outer in aluminum and of course the front. I switched ours to all aluminum, the only difference is what side is polished. I can live with an ugly wheel until I get home and break them down and switch them around.

RA at $74 a year a waste? You must be kidding?

Nope. I had it and canceled it. Needed it twice 1st time “sorry we are unable to locate service in your area” I changed my tire myself (installed an 11 year old spare). Found a local tire shop on Thanksgiving, (I wasn’t running that old spare the remainder of our trip) that our provider called and they refused the service call. The tire mechanic explained that he wasn’t coming out for $25.00 when their holiday rate was $100. He sold me a new tire, put it on and I was out the door.

2nd time they “couldn’t locate a tire”, I changed it myself (car this time) went up the road, DW called a Walmart, they had it in stock we drove in and had it replaced. Plus it was a 2 hour wait.

If I look back at all of the money I spent on that annual charge I spent more money on that than I ever spent replacing tires on the road.

I carry a spare, jack, tools and torque wrench in the DP now and the power of the internet for assistance should we need it. Might not work for everyone, but it works for us.

  3. IMHO, RA is a waste. If you’re tech savvy and have the internet at your fingers you can open more options for yourself than any RA. They have a select list to pull from, you could have many more options. They also might be more responsive since they are not working at a reduced rate.
One could argue that the services minus materials are free with RA, but there is a fee for it. If you use it that’s often you need to look into why and correct your maintenance practices or bad habits that are causing your frequent breakdowns.

  4. I replaced the same switch last summer with this one;

    https://www.amazon.com/Progressive-Dynamics-PD52V-Automatic-Transfer/dp/B003VAWNVK/ref=asc_df_B003VAWNVK/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312104220456&hvpos=1o3&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18078635839392378973&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9007337&hvtargid=pla-449802171731&psc=1

the internal wiring is just internal to the switch, once you remove it it all goes in the trash with the switch Box. The one above only has jumper wires inside used to open and close contacts, they do not carry the load of the coach.

  5. Larrym73, typically they are powered off of the House battery bank. Some do have them connected to the chassis batteries. Its very odd yours only starts with the coach engine running. Id call Fleetwood tech support for advise.

Cummins put out a position paper concerning the genturi stack. In their opinion, these should not be used as they expel exhaust gasses above the roof line. The gasses are heavier than air therefore end up returning towards ground level. If you have an open window, those gasses could be brought into the coach which is not a good thing to do.

I read that somewhere, I cannot seem to locate the bulletin.

When I fill up I always lower the side opposite of where I am filling. Doing this I will get at least 5 more gallons in the tank. (yes truckers look at me funny).

I picked up this habit from you, I do it every time. If I don't my fuel gauge will not make it to full. The Monaco tank fill necks are to low by IMHO design flawed. I can squeeze another 15 gallons into ours and still have room for expansion

I have read all of this..  So "All" is every year the engine was created.  Got it All bad..Yes?

If you find one that had all of the updates and its a lower HP rated engine I wouldn't be concerned as long as it has proper maintenance records to back it all up and so you know it was taken care of.

Personally, the Cummins ISM or ISL would be my preference.

Joe, your correct...the X450 is up to 1,750 ft. lbs.  now couple that with the Allison 10 speed, when it comes out...who needs a 605 hp ?

    You wouldn’t!
Don’t forget certain years all horsepower ranges had ceramic plunger failures that destroyed the engine. Bearings don’t do well with shards of ceramic where there should be oil.

Oh true.  I agree the older ones will be well made.

This is great video as well..  to bad they are gone..  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqR4saIdTLQ

I also noticed in videos like you said not a big difference from a 2006 to 2017.

Factor, if you are on Facebook, there is a Facebook group with older HR, Monaco and Beaver coaches for sale if that is what you are looking for.

"monaco motorhomes, parts, & accessories for sale"
