  1. I received my units from Delaware. So far only mounted the one in the daily driver. I still don't like that I am tracked but in reality we are tracked by On-Star, Credit Cards and Cell phones already so EzPass is just a small increment. That said, it has worked flawlessly and yes, it does save me some time and fumbling for change. I registered the one I use for both the daily driver and the toad, but frankly I doubt it will get moved as it is rare at this time that I'd need to clear a toll once I've reached a destination. I'll bring it along in the bag just in case.
  2. We, actually my wife and daughter, named our MH and our Jeep. The MH is Woof, the license plate is WFF---, the Jeep is red and is towed, it became FireToad.
  3. Update:Apparently the site 'created' a couple accounts for me. I had to call twice, once Monday and again Tuesday, but everything I straightened out, probably. I should receive my transponders in the mail tomorrow or Thursday. There was a bit of a disconnect with one CSR about the number of transponders I needed and where they should be. They have and are supplying a 'No-Read' bad for the unit in the toad. At first she didn't realize that the RV was over 7k pounds, this lead us down a couple false trails. Anyway, I think it is all straightened out. I admit a hate the idea of being tracked, but with multiple cell phones and paying for gas and other with a CC, adding a EZPass really doesn't compromise my privacy. With a number of roads that used to be free adding tolls, it just seemed to be time.
  4. So I went to the Delaware EZ Pass site to sign up. I will have to call them on Monday. Got all the way to the payment and the site puked. I am sort of registered as my user name is no longer available, but I can't log in. Maybe all is good, maybe it is not. The transaction is not posted to my card, but that may or may not be an indicator of success or failure.
  5. I keep reading the various threads and state sites. Confusing. I am not sure how many transponders I'll need. We have the Rig, the Toad and my daily vehicle. At no time will the Rig and the Daily Driver need a transponder simultaneously. The toad and the Rig obviously will be together at the toll booths, the Rig may on occasion be out and about without the Toad. The toad may, albeit rarely need the Transponder while out on a trip, but generally not at home. At home the Daily Driver would be primary user. At no time would the Toad and the Daily driver need the Transponder and if the Rig needs it the toad will likely be attached if it is along on the trip. So, if all I ever need going through a toll booth is the one in the RV and I can move it to the Toad or the Daily Driver as needed, I think One Transponder is it. Just not sure. I see where people have to remove the one from the Toad if they are towing to avoid a second charge. Unless you were going to go your separate ways on a trip and both would travel a toll road, I think all I need is One. I understand Delaware may be the best price, but then there are discounts that may or may not be honored depending upon what state you are in and where your EZ pass is from. I think I'd rather we all paid and extra $100 a year and just scrapped the toll system! There is a fairly major cost to administer and maintain a toll system.
  6. Reside in NJ. Travel PA, MD, DE, VA, WV, NC, SC, mostly. May also hit OH, KY, TN, GA. May also get to MO, AR, OK in the next couple years. I understand that you can get an EZ-pass from other than your home state and some are definitely better than others.
  7. Been a while since I checked in. Thanks for the info above. Last question, Which State offers the best deal?
  8. I have a 2009 Sunova 35J. I have weighed it front, back, left, right and 4corners. I have 37k miles on the rig and the tires. I had a blowout at 12,000 miles on a front tire, changed both, so those are actually only 26k miles. I see no issues. I keep inflation at the proper level. I own a number of trucks and usually run on the light trucks 50k and the heavier truck closer to 100k. I plan to look at the tires very carefully, but right now I plan on at least two more years.
  9. OK, I get it that one can mount an EZPass in a number of locations and that there are several non-compatible systems around the US. That is the easy part. WHat I would really like is the Dummy's Guide to EZPass. How many do I need? One for RV and one for the toad? or just one and move it? Or do I need to have one in each vehicle? Everything I've read just leave me wondering. Thank you
  10. OK, this is an old thread, but... I think that what leads to anti-RV laws is people stopping ay Wally World or the like and Camping, not overnighting. You see the with the awning out, the jacks down, slides out TV antenna up, I've even seen a BBQ set up and lawn chairs. This sort of visitor gives us all a bad name. it only takes a couple, maybe one in a small town and we get legislated out. As for $32 or $35 being too expensive for a night, try it in a car, you need a hotel and meals, you are getting a secure place to stay for well under the cost of a motel. You'll still get to cook and eat your own meals. As a side note, sometimes the local CGs might be involved in getting laws passed against overnighting in a rest stop. After all you are taking away their business. If you had a diner, would you appreciate a food cart parked outside your door?
  11. I just carry a standard BBQ tank, 20 lb and hook it up. One thing, Squirrels like to chew the hoses! Do NOT leave the gas on! and even ehn off they will chew the hose. I have wrapped mine with alumium foil, seems to stop them.
  12. Up hill mine downshifts and races up, not everytime to the same extent, but it does race. Down hill with TowHaul engaged it will 'enginebreak' A real nice feature. Also nice in traffic and in towns. you don;t have to keep on the brakes. I might look into a tuner however to see what is happening and if I can stop the extreme down shifting
  13. Over 16,000 miles towing, not towing, up hill and down, we average 6.389. Highest mileage comes after buying gas in WV, must be lower ethanol content is all I can say. Driving to WV from NJ, about 6, home 7.5 same over all load, same roads, and speed. Not an isolated incident. at least 4 trips over 4 years from the same locale to home. I log every tank and have current tank, 4 tank, 10 tank and overall mileage.
  14. I'll second the installation error. We had a Unified Gear brake installed (Great system) but the installer NEVER connected us to 12 volts. Battery would go dead after about 5-10 hours depending upon the amount I used the brakes. Found out on a trip to Tulsa from NJ. Verified the correct terminals and added a lead to the plug from a dedicated 12v source. Been flawless ever since. For the record, my unit was a 2007 Sunstar and the plug was not fully wired from the factory, no excuse. though. My new rig is 2009 Sunova, I moved the controller myself. The plug on this rig is fully pre-wired including the 12 v power. Towing my Liberty, two items, trans is in park, transfer case is in neutral. Key is off, the wheel in this rig does not lock. Good Luck Jim
  15. Someone else that actually records their fuel! I set up an excel spreadsheet that accounts for gallons purchased, dollars spent, single tank, 4 tank and lifetime MPG as well as a hyperlink over to the log for recording where we went and what we did. Our lifetime MPG is currently 6.53 Ford v10, Itasca 32k and we tow a jeep liberty almost every trip. Driving reanges from flat to alleganey, blue ridge and the like as far as mountains. I'd love to get up to 8MPG, but not sure if any of the add on kits are worth the cost. Jim
  16. We have a Jeep Liberty, 2007 that is setup to tow. We use a Blue Ox tow bar and a Universal Gear Brake. Power is supplied to the car through the umer if umbilical. hook up is under 5 minutes as is disconnect. Yes it is built in, but it can be removed and carried over to another vehicle. The base plate might not be, but that is the low cost item. Jim
