Boothbay Maine Area

Question

Will be visiting the Boothbay Maine area (actually staying in Phippsburg) for about a week the end of July early August and looking for recommendations on things to do while in that area.

What do you like to do? I would start with Freeport (You could spend a week in Freeport) and The Portland area. Don't miss When Pigs Fly, 21 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032 one of the best bakeries in the area.

Also The Maine State Aquarium, McKown Point Rd, West Boothbay Harbor, ME 04575. Or Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, 132 Botanical Gardens Dr, Boothbay, ME 04537.

Brunswick, ME is another small college town with interesting shops and good dining places like The Great Impasta, 42 Maine St, Brunswick, ME 04011

If you want good Pizza try Portland Pie Co. in Brunswick or one of their outher stores.

But what do I know it has been 3 weeks since I was in the area.:D

X2 Portland Pie co! That was delicious!

Traditions, Saco Maine, the best Italian food I’ve had in a long time, and I’m half Italian! Small mom pop place on Main Street.

Lots of amazingly good places up there. But The Federal Hill neighborhood in Providence has more great Italian places than you can count.

But back to the OPs area of interest. Here are some places in Freeport. For a good place to eat try Tuscan Brick Oven Bistro, 140 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032. tuscanbrickovenbistro.com There are lots of good places to eat like Jameson Tavern, 115 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032. jamesontavern.com. had a good pizza at Petrillo's, 15 Depot St, Freeport, ME 04032. petrillosfreeport.com. This one is close to the RV parking by the Bean outlet.
Questions, just ask.

Got to love it, Jack45 asked about things to do in Boothbay Maine area. All the responses have been about places to get baked goods, Italian food, Lobster and so forth. Not one museum, local attraction just Food. I know what this crowds priorities are, Food.:lol::lol:

Jack45, Old Orchard Beach is a very nice area, here is the link to the Pier;

http://www.oobpier.com/

The local Cabela's in Scarborough Maine has a great photo opportunity out front, Giant Moose statue! This is right off of I-95, in the same shopping center is the Portland Pie Co (to the left of Cabela's).

Downtown Portland (OLD PORT) is full of shops and great to walk around.

Portland Lighthouse has breathtaking views, this is a must to see!

If you like Beer, you will not go thirsty in Portland, there are several breweries, Allagash hands out free samples when you visit.

If you have a toad all of this will be a simple drive from Phippsburg ME.

You might want to go re read my first post and the OP hasn't responded to what he likes.

Many people consider Freeport a major attraction with at least 83 outlet stores and is home to LLBean. Bean is a great store  for those who like to shop at off peak hours as it is open 24/7. You can walk in at 2 in the morning and there will be someone to great you and ask if they can help.

So just for you I will add a couple outher things/places of interest like Bradbury Mountain State Park, Route 9, Pownal, ME 04062, 207-688-4712. Desert of Maine 95 Desert Rd, Freeport, ME 04032, Yes they have sand dunes in Maine.

The Fire Department Museum, 2 Main St. Freeport, ME 04032.

Ferry boat to Monhegan Island off the coast of Boothbay.  A great day trip, lots of hiking and a very quaint artist community.  Pack a lunch and drinks and good hiking or walking shoes!

Rockland or Camden both have old schooners, some of which offer a day sail.  Plus Camden has lots of nice shops and restaurants.
