Grand Canyon

Question

Planning to visit the Grand Canyon in Sept./Oct. this year. We will be traveling from central Fl. and need as much information about length of time for traveling and places to visit along the way. We are traveling in a class A motorhome. We also plan to go to Bryce and Zion while in the area. We are retired and not in a hurry.

Visit the north rim if possible. Its less crowed and actually the views are better. https://www.kaibabcampervillage.com/

If you stay at Williams, AZ,  The Grand Canyon Railroad Park is where we stay and if you like you can take the train to the south rim. You're also a short drive to Sedona.

You can easily spend a week.  If at all possible get to the bottom, hike if you can or take a mule.

OHHH! I've seen videos of the mules going down that canyon on 6 inch ledge or about.  No way would I do that, but the South Rim was extremely interesting.

Geologically, Bryce is the youngest. The floor of Bryce is the same as the rim of Zion, and the floor of Zion is the same as the rim of the Grand Canyon.

While the Grand is mammoth and impressive, Bryce has the most beauty with the Hoo Doo rock formations. I liked the north rim of Grand over the south rim. Not as many people. We were in our motor home, but stayed just outside the park. If you are into buying Native American Indian art, the south rim has a great trading post.

I was at the South rim last Dec. It is always fascinating. I would recommend you start trying to get reservations in Trailer Village RV Park,  100 Trailer Village Rd, Grand Canyon Village, AZ 86023. https://www.visitgrandcanyon.com/trailer-village-rv-park?utm_source=google&utm_medium=yext

The reason to stay at the RV park is it saves about a hour drive both ways and the shuttle bus stops at the RV park so you don't need to drive and it takes you to areas you can't drive. When you drive up you can go park in the big parking lots and catch the shuttle or walk over to the closest viewing area. But there is much more to see along the rim.

Like Jim S said, https://www.thetrain.com/lodging/rv-park-location/ is a nice back up and that is where we stayed in Dec. Make plans to eat at El Tovar Hotel it is a interesting old place. We had great window seats overlooking the canyon.

Planning same trip from Tampa in May/June. I’m using RV Trip Wizard which was recommended by friends.

I second Trailer Village in Grand Canyon.  A basic campground, but the convenience to the shuttles is great.  Try to get reservations as soon as possible.  Also, when you are there, try to get up early and take the red shuttle.  Amazing views and not at all busy in the morning.

Bryce or zion (cant remember which) has a restricted tunnel for large vehicles.  Be sure to look for it and plan accordingly.
