KB9VGD Report post Posted March 11, 2022 Greetings, new guy here. We bought a used Winnebago Journey 40U in late September and currently have it in storage at the dealers location. I have a 2013 Chevy Silverado 4x4 that we used to tow our travel trailer for a number of years and now will become the towed unit. The manual tells me how to set it up for flat towing and that procedure is no problem. I have a new base plate assembly, new tow bar (the one on the rear of the motorhome looked pretty nasty) and the wiring harness to the rear of the truck to the junction box for lighting. The only item to deal with is the braking system. Trying to decide between the Blue Ox Patriot 3 or the RVi3 systems. My question boils down to this, when towing the truck or car behind the motorhome what make the vehicle being towed track properly? Does the front wheels just follow because of the way it's hitched. It just seems weird that it would follow and not turn off to one side or another. Thanks for any info! Gary - KB9VGD
sstgermain Report post Posted March 11, 2022 It is a fixed triangle and can't do anything except follow behind the RV. The sides would have to get longer and shorter for it to not follow.
desertdeals69 Report post Posted March 11, 2022 I use M&G for braking on my Silverado 1500 4X4. It works great, wouldn't have any other system.

hermanmullins Report post Posted March 11, 2022 I have I 2011 Silverado 4x4 with Blue Ox base plates and M&G brake system with safety disconnect. The base plates are very easy to install. They go where the tow hooks are and all you need to is drill two holes and you are done. You can go to Athens, Texas and have Montie at M&G install the brake system. Wiring is also simple. I also have a 2013 K1500 4x4. I have not had any issues with my M&G braking system since installation in 2013. A tip to the OP, when you have the next alignment performed, request they set the caster to the middle of the range. DO NOT attempt to back up when towing your truck!
