drgurnzee Report post Posted May 7, 2015 2009 Monaco Knight 41SKQ My "step cover" (at the feet of cockpit passenger) WILL NOT close to cover the entry steps! When activated by the rocker-switch, it emits an "oogh" sound, a slight pause, followed by a duplicate "oogh" sound. I've tried everything. It doesn't work on dry-camp, it doesn't work on generator, nor does it work on 50-amp power. Not with ignition key on, or off. Not with battery cut-off rocker switch on, or off. The four slides are extended. It just occurred to me . . . maybe the slides need to be closed-in?? The ONLY time we've ever used the "step cover" is while traveling, and, of course, the slides wouldn't be extended. (just thinking out loud) My only "hunch" is that the inoperation is caused by a "fuse" or "relay" failure. I consulted the manual, and, I've searched the [chassis] fuse panel in the exterior left-front access door. kaypsmith Report post Posted May 7, 2015 The cover probably works in some kind of track mechanism, check that there are no obstructions in the path, maybe could need some lubrication. The fact that is goes "oogh", it sounds like there is power to it. Although many of these type mechanisms are air, or vacuum activated, if this the case some troubleshooting of the air or vacuum hose, checking for leaks. jlandon13399 Report post Posted May 7, 2015 Dennis, I have essentially the same coach only a year older. Recently my step cover is acting erratic. I have two different buttons that control the cover, one on the panel with the camera display and one on the passenger's side. Regardless of which button is used the cover will or will not activate. We wait a while and then the cover will activate. We will be in the coach tomorrow and will try the cover again. I have checked the fuse and it is good. hermanmullins Report post Posted May 8, 2015 Dennis, Welcome to the Forum. You didn't say what make of coach you have so let me tell you what I did when our step cover would not work properly. We have a 2002 Monaco Dynasty. The step cover is operated by a air cylinder. The cylinder is about 24" long and mounted to the floor in the rear of the cover compartment. The screw that secured the cylinder to the floor had broken. This allowed the cylinder to push the cover out but not retract it. I removed the cylinder, repaired the broken screw with a larger and longer screw through the floor and secured it from underneath. Space to work in is very small and you may use some extreme naval expressions while making the repair, I know I did. Herman Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I'm going to get "into-it" with the info you provided!! I went to the link you sent, and printed the picture. I think my cover is somehow just "stuck!" backhoej Report post Posted August 15, 2019 Hi everyone , BackhoeJ here , I know this is an old topic but i had the problem with step cover not working halfway into a month long trip. Couldn't fix on road but fixed when home. There is a motor in back of step underneath with a belt driven pulley , set screw came loose , only problem is you have to take complete frame out. I clipped a small voltage light to the metal on the step & touched switch contact behind & my step we’ll cover worked. Will replace switch as soon as I find right one.
